Scripture: Psalm 134 .
OBSERVATION
(What is God saying here?)
Psalm 134:1-2 (NLT)
1 Oh, praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, you who serve at night in the house of the LORD.
2 Lift up holy hands in prayer, and praise the LORD.
APPLICATION
(How Can I apply what God is saying here to my circumstances today?)
This psalm is about a very small group—the Levites who served as Temple watchmen. Singing this psalm, the worshipers would ascend the hill where the Temple sat and see the watchmen who protected it day and night. They saw the watchmen’s work as an act of praise to God, done reverently and responsibly. Can’t you imagine how our people today would also be lifted up and give God praise if they saw us making our job or responsibility in the church an act of praise by doing it with reverence to God. Co-laborers, let us honor God by the quality of our work and the attitude of service we bring to it. Let us look beyond the usual sayings: “Well, there was no one else to do the job”; or “I don’t want to let the Pastor down”; or “I don’t want to let my father down, as I promised him on his death bed that I would continue the work that he began”. While these are all admirable reasons for us to serve, it is not until we do a job in service to our God: with sincere devotion to Him, seeking His constant guidance, giving Him praise for every effort and accomplishment and growing team members to do the same, that He will receive the glory from it and that we will be truly blessed. God has given us the talent and He is looking for our availability to be of service to Him. Let’s not just commit to a job for any other reason than to serve God through our efforts so that He may be glorified.
PRAYER
(With God’s help, what am I going to do differently today because He said it?)
Lord Jesus, thank You for blessing each of us with a gift/talent. I realize that many times we feel so inadequate in and of ourselves, but praise be to God for ALL things are possible through the strength and wisdom of the great I Am. Thank You Lord for blessing me with gifts and abilities that I can use in Your service. Thank You for blessing so many in the congregation in which I serve with gifts that they can use. Lord, may we learn to offer these back up to You in all that we do in Your name. May You receive glory this week as a result of all that may be accomplished through Your people who have committed to a job or responsibility in Your churches all over the world, especially in my local church here in Avon Park, Florida.
