Godly Wisdom for Right Living

Scripture: Proverbs 3-4.

OBSERVATION
(What is God saying here?)

Proverbs 3:1-6 (NLT)

1 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart.

2 If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying.

3 Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.

4 Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

APPLICATION
(How Can I apply what God is saying here to my circumstances today?)

I was impressed in chapter 1:2-5 where the purpose of Proverbs was detailed. Two of the reasons were to teach people wisdom and discipline. As can be seen in the chosen verses this morning, there are powerful tips on how we might become wiser and/or maintain a life filled with wisdom from above. God’s Word never ceases to amaze me, because it seems like no matter where I might read, and no matter what my circumstances may be, God has it all covered in His Word. The importance of us staying daily in the Word is so very evident. God has something fresh and anew for us every day. God knows that self and selfish desires can quickly get in the way and cause us to stumble and destroy our godly witness, but as declared in verse 5 above, we must place our faith and trust in God and allow Him to direct our path and not depend on our limited understanding. Friend, are you feeling inadequate today? Are you feeling like you always seem to say the wrong things or do the wrong things? Why not join me in allowing God to control our heart, our mind, our understanding, and show us the path that leads to righteousness and one that is always pleasing to Him?

PRAYER
(With God’s help, what am I going to do differently today because He said it?)

Father God, thank You for thinking of everything when You designed us! Thank You for providing a book of instructions for us, so that we might pattern our lives after You. Sometimes, we might look at our ancestors and promise to not follow some of the ways where they may have failed, but praise be to God, You never fail. Thank You for designing us in Your own image. Thank You for providing all that we need to live our lives as a mirror of what You exampled before us. Please help us today to put self aside, accept Your awesome power, and unlimited love, and therefore place our faith and trust in You for all circumstances that we may face today.
