Why Worry, When God can Do This

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE New Living Translation (NLT) IS FOUND IN Luke 22:8-13

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: …. “Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together.”
“Where do you want us to prepare it?” they asked Him.
He replied, “As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him. At the house he enters, say to the owner, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?’ He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal.”
They went off to the city and found everything just as Jesus had said, and they prepared the Passover meal there.

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: Most of us will worry ourselves sick over the unexpected, the unknown and/or how we will possibly deal with every scenario that comes our way. For example, a wife might share her fear over how she will possibly handle life itself should her husband pass on before her. A business owner might be especially concerned over how they will handle payroll at the end of the week if sales don’t pick up a lot. Health challenges are probably the worse, as it seems like things could turn from bad to worse in no time at all while totally out of our control, and often on surprise to the medical staff that may be responsible for our care. No doubt, you’re no different to me, and the examples I gave are just the ‘tip of the iceberg’ when it comes to our reasons for worry, and illnesses that result from too much worry. Some who know the Lord intimately, may respond that these types of worries only apply to the unsaved, but I believe that every child of God who meditates on this devotional today will acknowledge that we all suffer from worry and these factors that I suggested in this devotional. On reading the above Scripture today, I must suggest that we may worry unnecessarily if we have committed our lives to the same Jesus who gave such intricate instructions to Peter and John about who they will meet and the place where they should prepare for the Last Supper. Dear friends, there were no details left out, and I dare say that Jesus is still alive, well, and very knowledgeable about what we will face every moment after the current second that you read this devotional. I must humbly say that I am the first to petition the throne of God for total submission to Him, instead of pretending that I could do it all myself; the boldness to ask God, instead of worrying about things that I have absolutely no control over; the peace to just settle down, knowing that without a doubt, I serve the awesome God who created me, loved me enough to provide the means of my future in heaven, and demonstrated over and over again how, based on His past experiences in unbelievable circumstances, how He could handle every situation that I could possibly face. I would encourage you to join with me in believing that we serve an awesome God who has proven Himself over and over again. Now, if we could just set aside the false hope that we have developed in this world and its weak and incapable efforts to help us, provide for us, and secure our future, then we might be able to celebrate with the two disciples who reflected on their assignment and how every detail occurred just how Jesus had commanded. Can I be considered a child totally in need of daily guidance by the Master? Yes, and I believe that this side of Heaven, all of you are the same. However, through the experience Peter and John encountered and celebrated, we too must be more than conquerors knowing that we serve a God who is greater than all our troubles, questions and concerns. Let’s learn to place our faith and trust in Him for ALL things, knowing that He is ALL-powerful; ALL-knowing; EVER-loving and ALWAYS caring for His children.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Thank You Heavenly Father for loving us so much that You provided for our eternal future with You in heaven. We are amazed by the accuracy of the minute details You gave to your disciples in the Scripture today, and we are once again reminded that we can place our faith and trust in You, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Please Lord, humble us to always seek Your face before looking to anyone, or anything else, and help us to make You our first turn-to option, and not our fall-out option after everything else has failed. You have demonstrated Your love for us in endless ways, and You proved Your love for us through Your ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Please help us to simply believe and have confidence in our Savior, Lord and forever King. AMEN!

An Intimate Relationship With Jesus Keeps Satan at Bay

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Luke 22:2-5

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: The chief priests and other religious leaders were actively plotting Jesus’ murder, trying to find a way to kill him without starting a riot—a possibility they greatly feared.
Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, and he went over to the chief priests and captains of the Temple guards to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them. They were, of course, delighted to know that he was ready to help them and promised him a reward.

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: As a child, I remember hearing adults comment ‘now you know that’s the devil’. especially when their attempts to do good seem to not go off as they intended. And a mischievous child may have been referred to as being ‘full of the devil’! We can all smile at these sayings, because we may feel like these are sayings from our past. However, in our Scripture today we can see where Satan was also involved in the people ministering with Jesus, and those that opposed His ministry. The ‘religious’ leaders were jealous of the effect that Jesus was having on their community through His ministry, and although God advises that we approach such individuals and seek to know them better, these leaders instead sought to find ways to eliminate Jesus. A sure act of Satan. Judas was a disciple of Jesus, having worked alongside Him, seen His miracles, and felt His love for His disciples and those they came across that may not even deserve the love of Jesus – at least from the perspective of His disciples. So how do you suppose that Judas went from a follower of Jesus, to one who offered himself up as a traitor? Something, or someone, got into Judas’ head and poured enough hatred and misery into him, that he chose to make a move quite contrary to the love taught by Jesus. So, do you suppose that this same behavior reveals itself today? I lived in a small, quiet, town where a young man walked into a bank office and deliberately shot each of the six staff members to death – execution style. Do you suppose that he had just finished reading his Bible that morning and reminded himself of the love and sacrifice of Jesus for his sin, and that a new place is being prepared for him in heaven? Friends, what comes out of our heart is simply a result of what we placed into our hearts. I know individuals who are impacted well into the following day, from a movie they watched the night before. It seems like every time we turn on the evening news, we are bombarded with the various acts of violence that individuals, who we may never suspect, has turned to violence and committed unreal, unforgettable, and astonishing crimes. We tend to cringe at such crimes, but surely, we must recognize that the criminals probably filled their heads with such things as the religious leaders and Judas did. They allowed Satan to take control of their lives, so they did things that no child of God would even consider. Some are opposed to Jesus – His teachings, standards and love for all mankind. But some who choose to totally ignore Jesus and freely welcome the evil one into their lives, will often say and do things that seem totally out of place, wrong and criminal to the One who loved us enough to sacrifice His life on Calvary for our eternal salvation. What do you permit to fill your mind, soul and being with each day? If it’s not Jesus, then it’s Satan and/or his demons who are out to destroy you eternally. To fill yourself with Jesus, means that With God’s help, you have forced all evil and hatred out of you, because Jesus will not co-exist with evil.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: There are many things that we are reminded of as we reflect on this Scripture today, oh. Lord. We are lost without You in our lives, and we stand to stumble and fall without You leading our lives in the way that only You can. This is not just for the new Christian as they might still be figuring out the ups and downs of Christianity, but we see where the religious leaders and an actual disciple of Christ, are the ones conniving in a way to irradiate Jesus. Lord, I believe this shows us that each and every Christian might struggle with these types of temptations if they wander away from You or dismiss Your leadership. We are helpless and useless when trying to do life alone, and especially without You as our Leader, Director, Advisor, Savior and Friend. Please Lord, help us to stay focused on You and help us to meet with You at least daily, so that we might fill our hearts with more of You, and fix our eyes on You alone. Our desire is to keep Satan away from us, but this can only be done with You at the helm of our lives, so we trust in You and surrender our lives to You afresh. AMEN!

Heart Condition – Yours and Others

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Hebrews 3:12-14

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: Beware then of your own hearts, dear brothers, lest you find that they, too, are evil and unbelieving and are leading you away from the living God.Speak to each other about these things every day while there is still time so that none of you will become hardened against God, being blinded by the glamor of sin. For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as we did when we first became Christians, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: I bet you never thought that you had any responsibility for the heart of others, right? I’ve heard people say that there is so much effort in minding their own heart, that there really isn’t time or energy to worry about someone else’s heart! But that’s not what today’s Scripture indicates. Unfortunately, we tend to think a lot like husbands, when it comes to being verbal in telling their wives how much they love them, for many may tend to think that since they believe in ‘once saved, always saved’, there is no need to petition God each day for forgiveness of our sin. Unfortunately, friends, as long as we live in this sinful world, we are subject to its evil, dirty, sinful effects rubbing off on us. Yes, at Calvary, Jesus died for our sin – past, present and future, and when we accept Him as Lord, He blesses us with His special cleansing of our sin. However, there are several things that we must be mindful of as we continue to live here on earth, while keeping our eyes fixed on eternity with Jesus. Ponder these things in your own heart today, but I will share a few things that I believe might stir your hearts, as they did mine:
– a – Is God convinced of your decision to follow Him? You see, many want to get the pastor off their back, and some just want the nagging to stop from their parents, or spouse, or Christian friends who’ve been evangelizing them, so they head to the altar hoping to achieve this. However, God knows the deepest thoughts of your heart. Is He convinced that you were serious in what you did?
– b – Has your lifestyle changed? The Bible teaches that we must be willing to repent – turn from the direction we once traveled and acted, to the new way taught and practiced by our new leader, Jesus Christ. If you haven’t changed, then Satan has one more reason to tantalize you, because He sees where you are not serious about Christianity.
– c – Speak to others about their life in Christ and encourage them in their stand to follow Christ, even while in a sinful world led by the chief of sinners – Satan. We need each other, dear friends. Satan may be hot on your case because of the weak moments that you find yourself in, but if you see Christ in me, you are encouraged in seeing God still at work among His people. While you may be going through your weakest day, I may be on a righteous high in my relationship with Christ, so with my encouragement you might be helped and encouraged to overcome the ill attempts of Satan. Remember, greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world!
– d – Blinded by the glamour of sin? I love the analogy of someone helping a blind person avoid a fall, or an accident, for in the same way we could be a shining light to a Christian Brother or Sister blinded by what appears to be the glamour of their old sinful self. May the strong always be willing to help the weak!
Friends, I believe the bottom line intended by Jesus in this Scripture today, is that although we are to ready our own hearts for heaven and live a life closely resembling our Master and Lord, we must also be concerned about our fellow man, for when they are strong, they may be the very ones to help us through our weakest moments. Together we can be a strong force against Satan and his attempts to pull God’s children down. Let’s determine in our own hearts to help each other be the best we can be for the Kingdom of God!

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Thank You Lord, for saving my soul, thank You also for melting the hardened hearts of my family and friends, for they are my encouragement when I am tempted and tried by the evil one. Please help us Lord to gain Your strength and Your power to overcome evil every day and make us even stronger as we reach out to help one another achieve this goal. I believe the world is anxious to see Jesus alive in their believing friends. Oh, dear Lord, please afford us this privilege so that the lost will see, understand and believe the love and promise of our Father in heaven. AMEN!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Isaiah 9:5-7

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: In that glorious day of peace there will no longer be the issuing of battle gear; no more the bloodstained uniforms of war; all such will be burned.
For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder. These will be his royal titles: “Wonderful,” “Counselor,” “The Mighty God,” “The Everlasting Father,” “The Prince of Peace.” His ever-expanding, peaceful government will never end. He will rule with perfect fairness and justice from the throne of his father David. He will bring true justice and peace to all the nations of the world….

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: No matter where you go today, there will be a doomsday cry echoing by people you come into contact with. It might be about the wars that are going on and the atrocities we hear that fellow believers are experiencing every day in these war-stricken countries. Or, you might hear the cry of a wife, whose husband is in hospital and there is little hope of him being released alive. Or, even at a special time like Christmas when so many want to give gifts to loved ones, yet they have been unemployed most of the year and not sure where monies will come from for Christmas dinner, much less for gift-giving. In each of these cases, victims often wonder when there will be relief in sight. Isaiah not only witnessed many hopeless situations like this in his day, but if surrounding nations were not totally wiped out, their residents were definitely living in a day of fear and without hope. As a prophet of God, the Holy Spirit led Isaiah to also speak to the generations that would follow, because just as in the examples I gave, there is much that still troubles the souls of men today. However, God allowed Isaiah to be encouraged about a special gift that He would send to give hope to the hopeless. This would bring hope to Isaiah, his people, and to you and me today! These verses are often read in church services around Christmas time, but as I read these verses in the context of how God encouraged His people, I was reminded that God still wants His children to be encouraged by the awesome promise He has in store for us. For there will be no more wars, nor unemployment, nor sickness when we stand in the presence of our Father, His Son and the Holy Spirit. The Bible teaches that those who believe on the name of Jesus here on earth, will enjoy a time of peace, contentment and love like nothing we ever experienced on earth, as we bask in His presence, worship, and adore Him for all eternity! Don’t you wish that you could face if only one day of that in the midst of your battles here on earth? Be reminded that God has never lied. His promises are true and we could depend on every detail that we read in His Word. However, part of what you will find, is that you must be born again. Unless you set aside the good, bad and indifference in this world and call on the name of Jesus for salvation, only then will you receive Eternal Life. If you fail, or neglect doing what Jesus ordered, you will be sent to an even worse place than anything you might face here on earth. It’s either heaven or hell, precious friends, and you determine your eternal destination by what you decide to do with Jesus. It’s really simple, but your decisions will make the difference between whatever you are going through now, and in what you will find when you are called out of this world. This great hope ahead, and you can drive the road to a wonderful eternal destiny when you decide today to follow Jesus. Please read my Footnote for instruction in making life-changing decisions today!

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Faced with every challenge of each new day, it is so rewarding to read Your Word, oh Lord, and be reassured of what lies ahead for the child of God! Precious Lord, I ask that You kindly touch the heart of every reader or listener today and direct them to the place You have prepared for us for all eternity. It seems like life here on earth consists of more of the same each day, so to stand amazed in Your presence and wait for Your return brings glorious hope to all believers today. May Your kingdom come oh Lord, and Your will be done on earth today, and in heaven tomorrow – when we sit at Your feet and worship You endlessly. What a glorious hope, oh Lord – my Savior and my Lord! AMEN!

Biblical Tips To Overcome Foolishness

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Proverbs 20:1; 3-4;

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: Wine gives false courage; hard liquor leads to brawls; what fools men are to let it master them, making them reel drunkenly down the street!
It is an honor for a man to stay out of a fight. Only fools insist on quarreling.
If you won’t plow in the cold, you won’t eat at the harvest.

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: It is so easy to look at someone, hear their foolish talks and see their foolish actions, and call them a fool. But do we stop to think about how others look at us? Without having to go through a lot of research as to the validity of our Bible text today, I believe we all can agree that our Designer and Creator must know everything about His created ones and what it is that might cause us to look foolish to others. The Bible teaches that God saw His servant Solomon as the wisest man on earth. God used this wise man to share wise nuggets with us about how we might appear wise and live like the created one God designed. So, let’s look at our Scripture, knowing that it is authentic and, because it was inspired by the Holy Spirit to godly men. Let’s satisfy our minds that this is sound advice for all now living, and all who will come after us. I find it interesting how some will turn to horoscopes, palm-readers or others with supposed ‘magical’ powers, and they will follow their advice closely. Yet when the God of this universe, and especially as Creator of you and I, makes the information included in today’s Scripture available to us, so that we might be warned of the dangers we might encounter, we tend to be hesitant in our obedience, and lacking in our attention to such caring and critical advice. Friends, although the advice seems clear, let’s look intently at what God is saying to us through these three verses:
-*- The danger of drunkenness – I believe that every family is affected in some way today by alcoholism, so I’m sure that we can all identify with the dangers of this dreaded disease. Although self-imposed, it is something that mankind has entered into in spite of the warnings given by our Maker. Pop into any restaurant that also serves alcohol and you will see patrons playing around with something that could cause them a lifetime of damage to their health, family, job, and/or friends. I’ve personally seen the unfortunate progression, where relatives started with casual drinks with co-workers and at business socials. This grew into doing the same at home. This deteriorated into losing jobs due to daytime drinking and careless/foolish behavior. Then it resulted in life-threatening organ diseases, and finally to death. those who are guilty may be saying just like these loved ones assured their relatives did – “don’t worry I have this under control”. But friends, no matter how much relatives may try to preach at you about your use and abuse of alcohol and/or drugs, God said through His servant Solomon that this nasty and dangerous habit would lead to false courage; brawls; foolish behavior; and something that makes you stagger down the street aimlessly, recklessly, unawares, and without purpose. Why not listen to God, my friend, and deal with life soberly while imitating the teachings of the One who made you?
-*- Fighting and Quarreling – In verse 3, God teaches us the value of being honored by your fellow man. Although many might say that they don’t like attention being given to them, especially in public, I believe deep down inside of us, we all long for others to see our value here on earth, no matter how insignificant we may feel it is! Solomon wants us to know that quarreling with each other and always being ready to oppose someone on something they say or believe, is a prime suspect for showing how foolish we are. Oh that we might think of that whenever we are tempted to challenge someone on something we may have a slightly different rendition on.
-*- Reaping what you sew – At first glance, Solomon appears to refer to harvesting food in the 4th verse. However, this could apply to many different things in life. If you want a good life, then be willing to obey your Creator and the teachings He left in His Book for you. If you want good children, then be willing to sacrifice and take the time to teach them the best qualities in life by what you say, and especially in what you do. If you want a good harvest in vegetable, fruit, cattle or grain, then be willing to spend the necessary time to cultivate, fertilize, irrigate and protect the farm. Try to remember throughout your lifetime – you will reap what you sew in life.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Lord Jesus, I have many more fingers pointing back at me than I could ever point at others, so please help me to always be mindful of everything I have challenged my readers and listeners with, in this devotional. Experience has shown that there is such joy in helping others. Please help each of us to follow Your example in helping others, encouraging others, and showing them Jesus in everything we say and do, so that You may be glorified through us. Please soften the hearts of my audience so that together we will not only listen to Your Word and learn about Your ways, but that we may demonstrate it as living examples of Yours here on earth. Please continue to draw the lost/unsaved unto Yourself today, and if this devotional could help in any way, I ask that You multiply its impact. Lord, I praise You for who You are, and for everything You do to guide us aright. Be glorified in us today, I ask. AMEN!

God – Our Father

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Hebrews 2:11-13

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: We who have been made holy by Jesus, now have the same Father he has. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call us his brothers. For he says in the book of Psalms, “I will talk to my brothers about God my Father, and together we will sing his praises.” At another time he said, “I will put my trust in God along with my brothers.” And at still another time, “See, here am I and the children God gave me.”

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: For those with siblings, you may remember a time where you felt like slipping under the dinner table, or behind the family home while someone important visited your home, because you may have been embarrassed by a sibling who acted up! Knowing that God knows everything about us and all about what we say or do, there may be times that you feel embarrassed to enter into God’s presence, for you are well aware of your ‘acting up’- your sin, and you are ashamed to see, or hear, what God might say about it. But friends, I was so comforted by the words shared by the author of Hebrews under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I trust that you will be reminded of why the Bible teaches us that Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father petitioning the Father on our behalf – He considers us His brothers and sisters! Is there any wonder He voluntarily surrendered Himself to die on a cross at Calvary – it was with His brothers and sisters foremost on His mind, and to secure a heavenly home for those who would surrender their lives to His sacrifice and calling. When a sinner answers the call to salvation, because of what Jesus did at Calvary, can you imagine the joy and celebration that Jesus and the angels must initiate before the Father? After all, one more has been added to the chorus that will stand before the Father singing praises when we see Him face-to-face! Despite what I already said about the embarrassment of some siblings, more often than not we stand very proud to be associated with our siblings. I feel like Jesus was feeling a certain amount of happiness and pride to rejoice before the Father over His brothers and sisters who would join Him one day soon in a hallelujah chorus before the Father! But please allow me to caution those who might take this lightly and assume that they are destined for heaven, even in their sin. Heaven, and this meeting place before the Father, is a place reserved for those who accepted the greatest gift ever given – the one given by God – His precious Son, whom He sacrificed for those who would surrender their lives to His lordship. These precious saints become the ‘brothers and sisters’ of our Lord Jesus, referred to in our Scripture today. Are you included in that number dear friend? This is a decision and action that requires you to become personally involved in the decision, and in seeking and believing on the name of Jesus. Parents, wives, siblings, nor pastors can do this for you. This requires your direct, personal decision and action. Please read my Footnote below for tips on becoming a Christian. Know that the return of Jesus to collect all His brothers and sisters could be any second after you read these words, so please don’t delay.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Thank You Heavenly Father for the gift of salvation, made possible through an enormous sacrifice You made at Calvary through Your precious Son. In 1976 You made me very aware of this sacrifice and helped me set pride aside to surrender my life to Jesus. Having been given the privilege of writing this devotional, I am now asking that You will prick the heart of every reader who happens across this blog. Please draw them to Yourself, and make them fully aware that the brothers and sisters referred to in todays Scripture, represent folk who have totally surrendered their lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ. No church or religion could save them. Nothing but the blood of Jesus, shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of their sin. Thank You Jesus for accepting us as Your brothers and sisters, because of what You did at Calvary. Oh how we anxiously await that great day when we will stand before the Father in total adoration and hearts filled with praise! AMEN!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM: New Living Translation (NLT) IS FOUND IN Luke 21:25-27; 34-36;

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken. Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.
“Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: If the local television station had given a warning like this about the course and/or danger of a nearby weather system, we would close down our businesses and follow his/her instruction without further delay. In today’s Scripture, Jesus shared with those closest to Him, His disciples, a similar warning to that given by the Father to Daniel – see Daniel 7:13. As most readers and listeners may be aware, the words of Jesus were recorded in the Bible so that His warnings might also be extended to others who are close to Him and make every effort to listen to His Word. So, what then shall we do? The warning has been extended to us. Are we satisfied to just sit in our corner and gloat over having our lives in order, and ready for the coming of the Son of Man – Jesus? Is that what you would do if you heard the above warning from the weatherman? In the case of weather-related storms, our family, friends, coworkers and acquaintances have become pretty accustomed to listening to warnings via radio or television. However, if you are looking at individuals anything like I am, you will conclude that many never attend church regularly anymore, and I strongly believe that even fewer read their Bibles. So where will their warning come from, if you refuse to pass along the warnings such as given to us today by Jesus? Notice that Jesus knew exactly what would distract the unsaved and perhaps even Christians, for He knows in advance what we, and/or our family and friends will resort to for entertainment, sports, and recreation. Notice how ‘Thanksgiving’ has become ‘Turkey Day’ rather than a time of thanksgiving for our many blessings? Notice how Christmas has become more about the commercialism and gift buying, rather than worshipping our newborn King? Sundays have become more about our only day to sleep in, or go to the beach, or to a theme park, than finding our way to the house of God to celebrate our risen Lord. It seems like we are ignoring the warnings from Jesus still today. He emphasized how much He loves us, and I feel like we believe and appreciate Him for that. He said that He would never leave us alone, and I believe we tend to call on Him when we feel like no one else is listening, or cares. He showed us how miraculous He is, and we tend to trust in Him for that, especially when there seems to be no way out medically for us or for a loved one. But, precious friends, we see the same trouble all over the world that Jesus referred to, and we see the many, many changes in weather conditions and unusual storms like He warned us about, shouldn’t we truly take Him serious about being ready and staying alert for His unannounced return? You may never get to read this devotional, because Jesus may have called you out of this world before I could get it online, or He could return before you totally absorb everything I am reminding you about. What will be your excuse be when Jesus asks you about your decision regarding eternity? Excuses won’t work for Jesus, because He not only knows our heart, but He also knows our very thoughts. Please friends, don’t delay. Without further delay, prepare to meet your Maker. The timing might be sooner than you think.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Your patience oh Lord is more than we could ever appreciate or duplicate, and we are so thankful. We read about it in the Old Testament, and Your patience seems multiplied in the New Testament and in our current environment of selfish greed and excessive efforts to enjoy ‘life’ just a little bit more. Should You come before I could complete my thoughts in this devotional, I trust that You will find a heart that is totally surrendered to You and longing to be with my Savior and Lord in Heaven. Please give my audience more of an urgency to do the same, and may we all be found ready and longing to be with You and the Father. Please forgive us for allowing the enemy to distract us from You, even though You are known for Your love and sacrifice, all for our benefit. With a greater sense of urgency, we could help others understand the urgency of the hour, but as I call on the One who is far greater than the advisory, I ask that You also soften the hearts of my audience to do the same. May Your kingdom come, and Your will be done, here on earth, and especially in our lives. AMEN!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM: The Voice (VOICE) IS FOUND IN Isaiah 8:20

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: Go to God’s teaching and His testimony to guide your thoughts and behavior! If any response disagrees with the word of God, then it’s muddling and wrong and not the least bit illuminating.

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: In much the same way that Isaiah was aware of men turning to fortune tellers, astrologers and or attempting to call up the dead for a good word about what they were facing, it is no different to what men still do today. I bet by now you are sitting on the edge of your seat wondering where I could possibly be going with this devotional, as current-day practices are so different, right? And although I needn’t get into the particulars of what I just referenced, I believe that all readers and/or listeners will agree that things must have been weird in Isaiah’s day, as it is challenging at best to think about mankind turning to such mediums for advice. But friends, I want us to get realistic, based on what we see today. Daily horoscopes are still one of the more popular ‘turn-to’ mediums for many to patiently wait for each day, as it tends to try and project our course for the future. Fortune tellers, or palm readers seem to have an office established in almost every city, plus I understand they are available 24/7 via telephone. Why? Well, for a fee they will make an effort to help you see into the future and try to clear up any frustrations you may have about what tomorrow may hold. Really?? Isn’t it interesting how many will be content in paying hard-earned money, and go out of their way, just to hear advice from a stranger that has no link to your Creator and Lord, rather than just seeking the answer from His Book? Look at what Isaiah said, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Isn’t it obvious that the One who created heaven and earth, the One who designed and molded mankind in His own image, the One who provided the Bible for us under His direct supervision and wisdom, the One who is directing our path here on earth, and the One who made possible the road for our eternity, that it’s Him who loves and cares about us each and every day, plus through eternity with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Why would mankind, you and I, turn our heads away from such a ‘sure thing’, and instead seek worldly wisdom or direction from a stranger with no idea of what God has in store for us tomorrow? It is so unfortunate that instead of mankind learning right from wrong from our Master, and from the mistakes made by our forefathers spoken of in the Bible, that instead we are repeating the same mistakes, practicing the same, or even worse wickedness, and disregarding our Father far worse that our forefathers ever dreamed of. Dear and precious friends, please consider joining with me in returning to our roots – to God – our Creator, Lord, Savior, Friend, Healer, and eternal provider of all good things; the church – the place referred to as the ‘bride of Christ’, a place referred to by all mankind as ‘the house of God’ and a training station for the children of God; and the Bible – a book of instruction and promise from Almighty God, a place where we can find answers to all of life’s dilemmas and a place where we could be reminded of the eternal love of our Creator. Join me dear friends in rejoicing over this reminder by Isaiah today, that answers to life’s most challenging questions, and the hope, that what lies ahead for us, far exceeds any happiness we will find on earth – these, and the comforting words of our faithful God are all found in His Book – the Bible. PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Lord Jesus, thank You for being such a bold and important part of the awesome plan created and put in place for those who surrender their life to Your lordship. Please Lord, open the eyes of Your people and show us the joy of Your salvation. We whine and complain about so much that has, and is going wrong in our society, but we are sitting on the Book of all books, the One that contains Your words, and Your instructions. The answers to all of life’s quandaries were prepared and properly recorded by Your messengers, under Your direct inspiration, for us to follow. Please Lord, clear up the mind-block of Your children, for it’s not necessary to travel hundreds of miles, or meet with people with reported special abilities, for You are available to converse with us anytime we desire, and Your instructions are prerecorded in Your Book for our peace of mind, if we obey them and follow them. Forgive us Lord for thinking that we have a better plan, Your plan is the only one for life today and the life that follows. I love You Lord, and I seek Your face as I look to You with praise and thanksgiving for all that You have done and promised to do now and throughout eternity. Please encourage Your saints with the words and intent of this devotional, and especially the words of Isaiah. AMEN!

Your Reaction To Seeing God

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Amplified Bible (AMP) IS FOUND IN Isaiah 6:1; 5;

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw [in a vision] the Lord sitting on a throne, high and exalted, with the train of His royal robe filling the [most holy part of the] temple.
Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am ruined, because I am a man of [ceremonially] unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: I know my readers/listeners will want to get me straight on one point right at the very beginning of this devotional: you are still alive, and have therefore never seen God’, right? To which I world respond: ‘but how is that any different to the prophet Isaiah’? And because of that, I believe there may be more to this particular Scripture than just breezing through a quick reading of how blessed Isaiah was, and to see his response to what he saw. The first thing God drew my attention to was that Isaiah was careful to mention that it was the year his mentor, King Uzziah, died. Could it be that as long as the king was alive, Isaiah was content in knowing what he stood for and in seeing his godly actions as he led his people? Could it be that Isaiah made himself content in seeing his king respond to the goodness of God, while feeling like he could never be that worthy, or blessed? I believe that we are way too comfortable in thinking that the blessings of Almighty God is for your spouse , or your pastor, or the evangelist that you watch on TV every week, and through encouraging them or possibly praying for them, you tend to feel blessed. Perhaps going to church and hearing the preacher talk about the goodness of God has become enough for you. But what if you were able to present yourself boldly before God, so that He may love on you and chat with you about your good, bad and indifference? Yes, your encounter may also be in a vision, but how do you suppose you would take that visit with God? Isaiah was a prophet of God, yet he felt inadequate and unworthy, but I believe it was a key marker in his life that he probably always referred back to. For example, having recently celebrated my 48th wedding anniversary recently, I had some key words of advice for a young couple about to be married today. Imagine talking to a discouraged Christian, or an unbeliever, about your encounter with the Creator of the Universe, and how, like Isaiah, your emotions of being with God just took over in echoes of praise as you were so aware of His holiness and His love for you and all mankind! Notice how Satan provoked Isaiah to think about all that he was, all that he said over time, all that his people were doing, and all that might separate him from the love of God. Friends, that’s Satan’s job, to distract and pull you away from God. When you surrender your life to the lordship of Jesus Christ, He forgives you of your sin – past, present and future. In fact, He is so serious about adopting you as his very own son/daughter that He promised to even prepare a home for you in heaven where you will also be with He and the Father for all eternity! Friends, with that kind of Heavenly Father, is there any wonder that Isaiah was in awe at seeing His veil that filled the temple, and then to later compare that holiness to what he knew his life looked like? You might be tempted to do the same today dear friend, but please be reminded God not only created you, but He also loved you enough that He provided the one and only means of you joining Him in glory when life here on earth has ended. Yes, He is that holy, that awesome, that loving and that mighty, but as one covered by the blood of His Son, Jesus, God sees you as one of His own. God said that your sins are separated, placed in His ‘Junk/deleted Files’ when He forgives you, so please don’t even try to feel guilty about them anymore. You are as white as snow in His eyes, so there is no need to think otherwise!

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Lord Jesus, like Isaiah, I am amazed by your holiness, and although I have frequent communications with You, I can’t imagine what my reaction would be if I came face-to-face with You in person, or in a vision. However, I am eternally thankful that my sins are forgiven and that I am looked on as Your righteous son. But Lord, I’m afraid that some might dare to read this devotional who is not as sure about their eternal destiny as I am. Please use something in this simple devotional to get their attention, and please soften their hearts to welcome Your input so that they may recognize You and Your precious gift made available to them through Jesus, Your Son. AMEN!

How To Avoid Drifting Away

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE FROM THE Living Bible (TLB) IS FOUND IN Hebrews 2:1-3

THE BIBLE TEXT IS: So we must listen very carefully to the truths we have heard, or we may drift away from them. For since the messages from angels have always proved true and people have always been punished for disobeying them, what makes us think that we can escape if we are indifferent to this great salvation announced by the Lord Jesus himself and passed on to us by those who heard him speak?

APPLICATION OF THE WORD: Should this devotional be addressed to a boater, I’m sure he would first think of this as advice on how best to secure his boat, so that it won’t drift away while he’s asleep, or otherwise busy. If to a banker, he might look at this as advice on how to avoid seeing his bank drift away from the ‘A’ rating received from regulators during their last visit. To a married couple, this message should encourage them to seek ways to avoid drifting away from the love and excitement they felt for each other on their wedding day, and for 10, 20 or 30 years later, for they may have ‘drifted’ from that excitement if they allowed other distractions into their individual lives. And so it is in our Christian walk. God gave us the full picture, including what it will look like in heaven and who all will be there with us. However, God also gave us free will to follow Him as Lord of our lives – just like when we accepted Him, or to actually drift away from Him and be miserable souls here on earth. This particular Scripture was given to believers who may had given in to the leadership of, and trust in, angels. Often it’s the very things that sound angelic or that provided positive outlooks in the Bible, that Satan will use to confuse us and/or cause us to drift away from the direct leadership of the Holy Spirit, or distract us from the commitment we may have made to our Lord and Savior many years ago. Friends, I believe this Scripture is intended to challenge us to stay true to God’s Word, always cement a close bond with our Savior, and be determined to let nothing come between us and our Lord. Some married men may kid around and say that they told their wives on their wedding day that he loved them, and they don’t need to keep repeating that, unless something changes! Unfortunately, some Christians may tend to think that way about their salvation. But let’s all be reminded today that on the day we committed our lives to Jesus as our Lord, we entered into a covenant relationship with Him. We basically committed to obeying His commands, His Word, and to live life very much like He showed us through His Word. Because we have new challenges every day, our relationship with Jesus will require speaking with, and hearing from Jesus every day. It’s what comes in through our ears and eyes that fills our heart for output. Many can give us very detailed information about their favorite sports figure, or team, because of their interest in that sport, team or individual. Perhaps if we were sold out to Jesus in a similar way, others might start recognizing in whom we believe, and to whom we owe our lives. Salvation is not a one-time decision that allows you to check one more thing off your to-do list. Instead, it’s a day and time that you decided to turn your life completely around, leave your old life behind, and start in a new direction following Jesus and His ways. In marriage, I told my wife that I would commit myself to her til death do us part. In our relationship with Jesus Christ, may we commit ourselves to Him til death brings us even closer together in heaven, and may that commitment be so passionate that we will ask God to help us ward off daily distractions that could otherwise cause us to drift away from Him. For those Satan-sized distractions, we need a God-sized plan that only He can achieve for us and through us. Walking haphazardly into His presence a few times per year, or even once a week in public worship, can hardly be considered daily and hourly communion with Him.

PRAYER BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT OF TODAY’S SCRIPTURE: Lord Jesus, thank You for being so sacrificial, loving and caring about us on a minute by minute basis. Please forgive us for giving in to the ways of this world, led by the advisory, that consistently pulls us away from You and Your perfect will for us. Satan is very much the source of our ‘drifting’ away from Your will. Lord, You created us in Your image, so I can only believe that you knew full well that we would be weak and ineffective without You prominently in our hearts and lives. Forgive us Lord for wanting to show our independence and thinking that we could handle the likes of Satan and his wicked army on our own. AMEN!
