Biblical Qualities of a Growing Church

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: Acts 2:42-47
Today’s Bible Text: 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper*), and to prayer. 43 A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. 44 And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45 They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. 46 They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity*—47 all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
The Bible Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

My Take Away: Without giving the appearance of being too repetitive, I wanted to highlight some of the things that made the very early church a very successful one. This is in hopes that we may see something that might help us to do the same today. Friends, let me say at the very outset that I am not referring to the BIG church down the road who seems to be flourishing already, or the small to medium church that seems to be catching the BIG church up pretty quickly. I’m talking about the church of our Almighty God, for I believe that it should always be our objective to see His church added to daily (evidence of the unsaved world being reached with the gospel). So here are some things worth taking note of:

  • Those that were saved, devoted themselves to the apostles’ teachings. What beautiful choice of words! Being ‘devoted to my wife’ means that I will do everything to be with her, listen to her, try to please her and will go with her even when a good football game is on or the fish are biting good! Therefore attending church, or Bible teaching, would have similar priorities to those things just mentioned, or as mentioned in Acts 2. There would be nothing with greater priority;
  • Fellowship – I believe that when these Acts 2 believers spent tIme together under the teaching of God’s Word, they learned some things that helped them really get along with each other, so they enjoyed times of fellowship together. I bet they learned to overlook one another’s faults, and also their individual peculiarities!!
  • Sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper) – The mention of ‘food’ will normally bring folk out to church, but what a challenge to get those same folk to join you for a Bible Study that follows, or the Lord’s Supper that may only occur once per month or quarter. Knowing that God sees the heart, I wonder what He must see as the ‘devotion’ of these folk?
  • Prayer – Similar to the last item, this is probably one of the least attended services at a church. Analyzing this from a human perspective, means that folk either struggle with talking to their Father, fellowshipping with other believers while they talk with their Father, or simply sees no importance in publicly talking with their Father with hopes that others might be encouraged or blessed to hear of your answered prayer. I wonder which!
  • Shared everything they had with those in need – In other scripture, God shows where the church was designed to handle this through tithes and gift giving, or through handing out food and clothing to those in need. Oh that we would be done with the excuses of assuming that the church abuses this privilege, therefore we will not give to the church as God directs. These folk sold everything they had so that others might be blessed. May I suggest that the giver was probably more blessed than the receiver?

You may be asking why God would have all this included in His Word for us. I believe that it was very intentional in mentioning that the church grew daily. Again, this refers to God’s church – regardless of what denomination tag may have been placed on it on earth. Friends, our churches are dying rapidly today, so may I encourage you to not worry about inviting the church growth division of your state to discuss and help you analyze your church problems, but rather look inside your own heart and see how well you are doing in the above items? God will add to His church when he sees people who are serious about Him. Let’s take care of these things personally, and I believe that God will take care of the rest!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, in appreciation for all that You have blessed us with, we want to recommit ourselves to the proven qualities of this early church. I believe that You placed things like this in Your Word so that we might be best equipped to help grow Your kingdom in and through the many churches that we are involved in. Please help us to cut through the church politics, and the conclusions we tend to jump to about how our churches are run, and just do our part, knowing that You will add to Your church daily when Your children follow Your prescription for church growth. Thank You oh Lord for loving us enough to point us in the right direction. May we now be obedient, so that Your work might be accomplished before it’s a day too late. For I ask these things in the precious name of Jesus, AMEN!

Don’t Be Afraid – God Is With You!

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: Isaiah 41:10; 13; 20

Today’s Bible Text: 10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.    13 For I hold you by your right hand – I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.    20 I am doing this so all who see this miracle will understand what it means – that it is the Lord who has done this, the Holy One of Israel who created it.

The Bible Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

My Take Away: I find it amazing how God points us to scripture that He knows we need, or that someone else could benefit from the ways we share with them! In our scripture today, God was trying to convince the Israelites that because He was available to them and would be with them every step of the way, they were safe to return to their homeland, Jerusalem. After seeing this message hammered twice, then a verse to help understand why God was doing this, I got the message! Friends our human tendencies often lead to question “why me Lord”. In fact, so much so, that a song was written, and it became pretty popular, because it hit on such a powerful mindset of many people. This is therefore a message that we need to stop and think about for a moment. We often feel sorry for ourselves, because we might be going through some circumstances that others are free of, but what if you knew beforehand that God would be lifted up through your scenario? What if you foreknew that a loved one you had been praying for will come to know the Lord because of seeing Him so active in your circumstance? God is not just saying that everything will be OK, but He is telling us to not be afraid, but be encouraged in knowing that your Savior and Lord has taken on your concern and made it His business to be there for you because He wants you to know Him more intimately. In fact, He would even encourage you, strengthen you and hold up a flag of victory for you to be convinced of His presence and concern. Now here’s the piece we might struggle with most, for we want our cares taken care of, our sorrow turned into happiness, our future turned completely around for a promise of happiness and success. However, in verse 20 God tells us that our circumstance may be used for something totally outside of our family or our home, for He may very well use His intervention to convince our world (our family or our friends) that Jesus is alive and that He desires a deep relationship with them. Friends, I would encourage you to always look for ways that God might be using your circumstances for His glory, and I want to invite you to find peace in knowing that God is with you at all times, and that He will offer you assurances of His love and His protection. In all circumstance, let us learn to give thanks to our God, and not be afraid.

Prayer: Lord God, we are such a blessed people. It is hard to fathom that You, the God of this universe; our creator; would use simple man to accomplish Your will for this earth and all that is in it. None of us care for circumstances that cause us to worry, but none of us who care about others want to see them die hopeless and lost either. When we commit to having You use us for Your glory Lord, we may never think that it may be in circumstances such as the way You used Job. We are reminded that You may use us through great things, or perhaps through tough times, but praise to the Lord Almighty, You have promised that You would be with us in every case. Please help us to always find comfort in that, also knowing that Your ministry is reaching way beyond us to touch lives that need a Savior. Thank You for loving me through the good times and the challenging times, may Your kingdom come oh Lord and may Your people rise up to worship and adore You, not just for what You can give us, but for all that You can accomplish through us. I am blessed, and thank You for Your unending love and mercy. Amen!

What If We Say Only What God Says

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: 2 Chronicles 11:13-14
Today’s Bible Text: Meanwhile, the messenger who went to get Micaiah said to him, “Look, all the prophets are promising victory for the king. Be sure that you agree with them and promise success.” But Micaiah replied, “As surely as the Lord lives, I will say only what my God says.”
The Bible Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

My Take Away: I believe that much like our ‘worldly’ counterparts, Christians are often guilty of trying to be the popular one in a conversation, or a party, or a family, or among our friends. We all want to be thought highly of, and we would really like to be the popular one in the group. But let’s think that through for a moment. Did we commit our lives to God so that we could have one more on our side, or on our team? Do we need to have one more that we could tell what to do? Friends stop and think this through, did God need us when He created the earth, or the skies, or the heavens? What about when He created you and I, did He do all that alone – without us telling Him what to do or how to do it? I would dare say that I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ because I realized that I didn’t have all the answers; that I have no idea about what tomorrow will bring. I was convinced that Jesus was the answer to all of life’s questions, hopes and dreams. I knew there must be a God, but I also knew that He was far beyond anything I could imagine. I knew that I needed a Savior to fill the gap between myself and the Master, and praise God I found that to be the Lord Jesus Christ! So recognizing that this was a need, why on earth do I try so hard to still make decisions on my own and try to please my peers/friends? Can I possibly be a ‘Micaiah’? Friends, Micaiah’s bravery and determination to be God’s spokesman is a challenging thought for us, because as we can gleam from this story, he declared what God had revealed to him in a dream, even though it was the unpopular thing to do, and even though it led to his imprisonment, and not his place at the head of the king’s banquet table. So why is this important, you might ask. First of all, can you imagine the freedom this must have given Micaiah? He spoke exactly what he knew the Lord had given him to him say. No guilty conscience, but a freedom in knowing that the God of the universe was then controlling his mouth and his words. Can you remember taking a message to your young siblings and adding the words “hey, don’t look at me, that’s what daddy said. I’m just the messenger”!! What if we took that stance in all walks of our Christian life? But wait, that’s exactly what God expects of us. We surrender our lives to Him, because we trust Him to be totaly in charge of all aspects of our life. Are you ready to let Him do exactly that? Our stresses would be greatly reduced, and God will actually make a lot more difference in this world, if only mankind would step away and let Him be God!

Prayer: Oh Lord, may we do exactly what You taught us in and through Your Word today. Micaiah’s boldness proved to us that it is important that we allow You to perform Your mighty works without interference from us, and in spite of what might be the popular or even demanding thing to do. Lord, we mess up way too often and I believe that we stand in the way of Your perfect decisions and will, way too often. Please touch the lives of Your saints today and give us boldness to stand firm for what we believe, and confident in whom we believe. You are Lord of all – or really not Lord at all to those who doubt Your power and who run interference in all that You want to accomplish in and through Your people. Please forgive us Lord, and please redirect our thoughts to one of total dependence on You. I ask these things in the name of the one and only Savior of this world, Jesus, the Christ! AMEN!

Salvation, Contentment and Everlasting Life!

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Text:
1 Timothy 6:7-10
7 We didn’t bring anything into this world, and we won’t take anything with us when we leave. 8 So we should be satisfied just to have food and clothes. 9 People who want to be rich fall into all sorts of temptations and traps. They are caught by foolish and harmful desires that drag them down and destroy them. 10 The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. Some people want money so much that they have given up their faith and caused themselves a lot of pain. (The Contemporary English Version).
Psalm 80:3Turn us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. (New Living Translation).

My Take Away: In my New Testament reading today I felt compelled to ponder a while on the verses shared above from 1 Timothy 6. Then I was torn when I got to the Psalms and read the verse above, for the words in vs. 3 were  reemphasized/repeated in verse 7 and again in verse 19 of that Psalm. It then became clear that the Holy Spirit was actually guiding me to the answer to life’s dilemma that becomes man’s greatest frustration when he realizes that riches will not bring all of life’s answers and or happiness. You see, in the new testament verses, Paul was teaching Timothy to make sure that he really emphasized to the people that on the day they were born and on the day they die, their worldly worth is the same – nothing. So why make such a fuss over money during the short span in between the two events. In fact, in verse 10 Paul emphasizes that our love for money becomes so strong during our lifetimes, that it actually affects our walk, our relationships, and our ability to properly represent God. We often reflect on the simplicity of life in the days of our ancestors, and while they also had their own types of issues, we quickly discern that they had more time to fellowship with each other and show God’s love one for another. Friends, the real answer to our dilemma became evident in Psalm 80:3, for we desperately need to seek God’s face, allow His face to shine upon us, save us, and cause us to turn again to Himself. I believe it is only then that our minds will deflect the temptation to covet what our neighbor has, or to feel the need for more money in the bank as our only answer to survival now, and in the future. It’s all about God, friend! He was here from the beginning of our lives, He surrounded us with His love, protection and direction throughout our lives and He is available to lead us to our eternal home with Him, if we accept Him as Lord of our lives. There just is nothing more important than that friends! Look to my ‘Footnote’ for help on how to make this transition in your life, if you haven’t made a decision yet to accept Jesus as your Savior, for He is the answer to all of life’s questions and earthly challenges.

Prayer: Father God, You created this world, brought us into this world, provided for us and loved us beyond anything we could imagine, by sacrificing Your very own Son to die for us so that we might live in hope of one day returning to spend eternity with You in heaven. Please forgive us for the times we have really messed up and gone sideways on Your expectations of us. As the Psalmist penned in Psalm 80:3, please turn us again to Yourself and make your face to shine upon us again, so that we may be saved. Please reach into the hearts of the hardened ones that we know and love today. May they feel Your presence and be drawn to You with sincere and broken hearts. Thank You for loving us beyond anything we could imagine. May we surrender ourselves fully to You and love you with all the capacity that we could muster up, is my humble request today, AMEN!

A Better World

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: 1 Timothy 5:1-3
Today’s Bible Text: Don’t be harsh or impatient with an older man. Talk to him as you would your own father, and to the younger men as your brothers. Reverently honor an older woman as you would your mother, and the younger women as sisters. Take care of widows who are destitute.
The Bible Translation: The Message (MSG)

My Take Away: I believe that most of us could chime in with ideas on what it would take to see ‘a better world’ for us to live in. In fact, there was a song named just that in earlier days as well! I believe if our country’s leaders needed to know how to best govern its people, they should just ask you and I and we will have a word or two for them! I’m sure that our pastors probably get an ‘ear full’ almost every day on how to best run the church, because from where we are sitting we could give vast knowledge and insight on the matter! Yet in reading this part of the scripture this morning, I believe that God is speaking very clearly to us in telling us how we could be a part of improving our world, just by doing what He expects of us. Think about this friends, God knew what Paul needed to pass on to Timothy to improve the situation in the areas that he would minister. God also knew that by including this in His Word, this would also give much needed direction to His children in 2016 who would be looking at life from a lens of hopelessness as we look at failing country leaders; churches that are closing because of lack of attendance and failing spiritual leaders; and families falling apart because of selfish individuals who insist on doing life ‘their way’. So God gave us some principles on how to treat each other – how to get along. Imagine for a moment if we were to:

  • Don’t be harsh, but talk to, and treat older men as our father
  • Don’t be harsh, but talk to, and treat younger men as our brothers
  • Reverently honor older women as our mother;
  • Reverently honor younger women as our sisters; and
  • Take care of widows who are without help (destitute).

Imagine us doing this both inside the church, and outside. In other words, with everyone that we come into contact with. I dare say that we would build a ‘Better World’ without ever feeling the urge to get politicians, pastors, or anyone else straight! The challenge is, that if this is to be – it’s up to you and me. There’s no one for us to blame or try to straighten out. Are you willing to look to God and ask for His strength and direction to do this today friend?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are beyond anything we could imagine, for You not only created us, but You have given us commands, rules and instructions by which to live in accordance with Your intended purpose. Thank You for directing me to another section of these directions this morning. These have already been tested by Timothy, so they are tried and proven! Please forgive us for our selfish attitudes and the ways that we try to manipulate life into our own broken, and often failed ways. We have strayed a long ways off the path You have intended for us and we so desperately need reminding of Your perfect will for our lives. Lord, may we personally be found faithful, is my humble plea to You today. For I ask these things in the precious and all powerful name of Jesus, AMEN!

Building A Better Generation

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: Psalm 78:6-8
Today’s Bible Text: [Teach] So that the coming generation would know them [His holy laws] by heart, even the children who are not yet born, So that they might one day stand up and teach them to their children, tell them to put their confidence and hope in God, and never forget the wondrous things He has done. They should obey His commandments always and avoid following in the footsteps of their parents, a hard-headed and rebellious generation – A generation of uncultivated hearts, whose spirits were unfaithful to God.
The Bible Translation: The Voice (Voice)

My Take Away: I’m sure by now you have read the scripture today and concluded that the Psalmist was referring to the Israelites, right? Are you wondering yet how this might impact you and I today? Friends, with very few exceptions, I believe that churches you know, have either closed over recent years, or seriously declined and in fear of possibly closing their doors. This is critical to consider, because I would question how many homes have parents who are committed seriously to God – to the degree that they teach God’s Word in their homes and/or practice the truths of God before their kids. At my church, we have more kids at our mid-week Children’s Ministry than we do on Sunday, yet we have only a very small group of adults who actually stay at church for an adult prayer or Bible study class. This tells me that although God demanded our ancestors to teach their children the Word of God, and that the children learn to also teach their children, somewhere along the way that process didn’t transition over properly. Does this mean then that each generation will do better or worse, in regards to standing firm on the Word of God? I believe the answer to that is evident. Today we see and/or hear about some of the most horrendous crimes imaginable, and yet we question if there is no God. If our children continue to drift away from God, what do you suppose the future will look like? Will we be charged with failing to pass along/teach the Word to our children? I believe the challenge to each of us today is to get before God and ask if we are doing all that He expects of us. We often talk about having a balanced diet, may I suggest that living life without being true to your Creator and the Savior who gave His life for you, is like living with a key ingredient of life missing – unbalanced. Please consider drawing closer to God, and ask for His help in disseminating His truths to your children – His precious kids.

Prayer: Oh Lord Jesus, how sorry we are for dropping the ‘ball’ – our responsibility to learn Your Word and to pass it on to our children. We have failed You miserably in this, and we are seeing the consequences of this in an awful way everyday and in all aspects of our lives. Please teach us again to pray – so that we might recognize our Master, and our weaknesses. Please teach us again the importance of studying our ‘rule book’ – our Bible, each and every day so that we might clearly follow the path You intended for us to follow. Please continue to remind us of our responsibility to teach and lead our children – our generation, about the God who loves them, who cares for them, and who wants to be their Father, and the One who will help them through this challenging life. May we be found faithful oh God. I humbly ask this in the name of Jesus, AMEN!

Think About All God Has Done

THE HOLY BIBLEPsalm 77:11-12 (NLT) –  But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.  They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.

THOUGHTS: In the verses leading up to verse 11, we read about all the questions David had for God. You know, much like the questions we have when we think that God is doing ‘His own thing’ and seems uninterested in what we are telling Him to do?  Oh you say that you would never do that? Friends I want to challenge you to think about how often we unconsciously do this every day. We ask God to clarify a decision we have already made for ourselves, and when God responds differently to what we expected, or demanded, we immediately think that God’s not there, or doesn’t care about you. Let’s not forget that for every yes/no question we ask, there is that choice in responding! Let me explain, way too often we go before God with a question, and because we have our minds made up with what the response must be, we tend to think that God didn’t hear us, or chose not to respond to our demands. Over time, I believe that we will realize that the greatest love that can be shown to us is for God to say ‘no’ when He knows full well that it is the best decision for our situation. I believe there are also times that we just can’t muster up the faith to ask God for help with our situations. David showed us that these are the times that we stop and reflect on the mercies of God and the proven power of God in our very own lives, so that we might gain strength in our weakness, and faith in our time of doubt and unbelief. Friends, we serve a GREAT BIG God, and until we stop to reflect on His awesomeness and our ‘littleness’ then we might be missing a lot of blessings. Please take time to reflect and praise God for His awesome power, then proceed in the confidence that swells up in you to place your needs (small and great) before the God of this universe! He’s my God, and I know that I can trust Him! I would challenge you to draw close to God so that He can show His power, grace and mercy as He draws close to you!

PRAYER: thank You Father for being my Creator, my Redeemer, my Savior and my King! I know that there is nothing unreadable or impossible for You. Thank You for hearing my heart’s cry when I call out to You. Please touch the heart of each person reading this devotional and cause us to draw closer to You in every aspect of our lives, so that our faith may increase and relationship with You become strong enough that we will trust You with every part of our life, and not just the portion that we feel inadequate in handling.  Thank You Father for handling life today – our lives with all of the complexities that we have added to them. In the name of Jesus, I ask these things oh Lord, AMEN!

A Prayer For Our Leader and People

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: Psalm 72:1-5
Today’s Bible Text: Teach the king to judge with your righteousness, O God; share with him your own justice, so that he will rule over your people with justice and govern the oppressed with righteousness. May the land enjoy prosperity; may it experience righteousness. May the king judge the poor fairly; may he help the needy
and defeat their oppressors. May your people worship you as long as the sun shines,
as long as the moon gives light, for ages to come.
The Bible Translation: The Good News Translation (GNT)

My Take Away: With this being a year of election for my country to elect a new president, I believe that while we must be diligent to vote for the one God directs us to as our next leader, we must also be diligent to read God’s Word about what is expected of us (Christians) before, during and after our elections. For interspersed throughout God’s Word we are cautioned in each of these areas. In this scripture today, King David is praying for the Israelites’ new king, his son Solomon. I believe that if we take note of David’s prayer, and acknowledge that God had very good intentions and reasons for placing this prayer as part of His Word, and endeavor to pray similarly for our leader, then perhaps our people will humble themselves and pray, and seek God’s face. Watch how this prayer is all about our leader and us, being more like God and placing Him in His place over us. David prayed:

  • That the king would judge with ‘righteousness’;
  • That he would rule/govern with the same justice and ‘righteousness’ experienced from God, especially to the poor and oppressed;
  • That as a result of the above the people would enjoy prosperity and ‘righteousness’;
  • That the king would judge the poor fairly and be willing to stand up to the oppressors;
  • That the people would never fail to worship God today and all the days to come.

Friends, as children of God, I believe we are called to be living witnesses of what our God expects of us. I have just listed some ways that we are taught to pray for our leader and for our people. What do you suppose would happen to our country if Christians chose to pray like God expects of us, and to do it on a regular basis? Let’s remember this year that we are called to be Christ followers first. Let’s not get so carried away with worldly politics that the unsaved lose total recognition to whom we truly belong. The unsaved is looking for what God has done in our lives, not how little difference there is between us and the world. We are to be ‘light’ in this world of ‘darkness’. Please example, teach and preach the Word of God, even during a time when the world around us is so caught up in, what often turns out to be, the hatred and evil of politics. Please remember that God loves all of his children, not just us and our look-a-likes!

Prayer: Lord God, may Your people be Your faithful and true people even during a very passionate time of placing what we believe to be the right person in leadership over our country. May we be so faithful in prayer, trying to ensure that we hear your voice clearly, that we will not have time to step into the filth and ugliness of earthly politics. We are Your ambassadors looking to win as many to the kingdom as possible. May we not lose sight of that mission in things we say, write or portray, especially this year. You loved us in spite of our sin, may we in turn, show that same love to all Your children, by staying on mission for You, and not allowing the political views of the world around us to divide us from, or distract us in, our mission for You. I ask these things in love and because I want You to be foremost in our lives at all times, Lord Jesus, even during a year of elections. AMEN!

Fill Your Minds With……..

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

The Bible Reference: Philippians 4:8
The Bible Text: …. Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.
The Bible Translation: The Living Bible (TLB)

My Take Away: When a cup is filled with water, it replaces the air that the cup was filled with. When leaving your child at college, and you’re pulling out to head back home, what are some the last minute things that you tell your child? Paul was about to leave his brothers and sisters at Philippi, and he didn’t want them to fall back into the condition that he had found them when he first visited with them, so he was coaching them on how they might stay strong in the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Imagine how the pastor who led you to the Lord would feel if he chose to leave your town and move elsewhere in the country? Don’t you know that he would have some wise words of wisdom for you? I believe that God got my attention in reading about Paul’s words to his people, because these are included in the Word of God for my benefit. God knows that I needed to hear this today, and I am sharing this with you, because I feel like God wants you to hear this. So friends, may I therefore encourage you to displace everything ungodly in your mind with these things:

  • Those things that are true;
  • Those things that are good;
  • Those things that are right;
  • Think about things that are pure, and lovely;
  • Dwell continually on the fine, and good things in others. Even in those that you have never been able to get along with;
  • Be diligent about looking for things you can praise God for; and
  • Be glad in all things because of the love of God for even you.

And the God of all grace will be with you dear friends, even until the end of time!

Prayer: Thank You Lord, for Your blessings on me! As I sing that song over and over in my mind Lord, I realize how blessed I am to be Your child and to be the recipient of Your boundless grace. These words of encouragement from Paul reminds me that the minds of Your chosen people should be filled with the bounties that You generously pour out on us. When this happens Lord, then our thoughts and our actions will follow our mindset and therefore cause us to be a blessing to others. In doing this, there will be no time or reason for saying or doing those things that tend to destroy and tear down the work that You need to do among Your people. Please soften our hearts and our minds so that we might seek Your face and not Your hand, as we always tend to do. I believe that Your work here on earth will be richer if we reflect Jesus in our lives. Please grant this today dear Lord, for I ask this in the precious name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, AMEN!

God Will Prevail!

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

The Bible Reference: Judges 2:11-13; Philippians 1:12-14
The Bible Text: (Judges 2:11-13)     The People of Israel did evil in GOD’s sight: they served Baal-gods; they deserted GOD, the God of their parents who had led them out of Egypt; they took up with other gods, gods of the peoples around them. They actually worshiped them! And oh, how they angered GOD as they worshiped god Baal and goddess Astarte!

(Phil 1:12-14)      I want to report to you, friends, that my imprisonment here has had the opposite of its intended effect. Instead of being squelched, the Message has actually prospered. All the soldiers here, and everyone else, too, found out that I’m in jail because of this Messiah. That piqued their curiosity, and now they’ve learned all about him. Not only that, but most of the followers of Jesus here have become far more sure of themselves in the faith than ever, speaking out fearlessly about God, about the Messiah.
The Bible Translation: The Message (MSG)

My Take Away: I was impacted by two passages of scripture, and both made me reflect on the types of individuals that my God made, and allowed to exist here on earth. In the first scripture we see where the Israelites thought they had everything figured out, so they lost sight of God and worshipped false gods instead. Now look at us – ever noticed how full our churches get after a disaster? For a few Sundays after the 9-11 disaster, our churches were filled. However as soon as folk felt like they were safe to return to their sinful lifestyles, church-going took an unimportant place in their lives. Friends, have you ever stopped to ponder why we hear so many concerns about what appears to be doom and gloom whenever we hear groups talking? Wouldn’t you think that just as God got upset at the Israelites for straying away from Him and worshipping other gods, that He is very likely to also get upset at us for turning our backs on Him? Especially when we really trusted Him to see us recover from the disasters, but soon afterwards wanted nothing to do with God or His body of believers? God declared war on the Israelites, and He even worked against them in their battles. Could He be doing the same thing in our country, our state, our cities, our churches and our families? But look at Paul’s testimony. He was thrown into prison for his beliefs and his bold testimony of what God had done in his life. Ordinarily we would consider that a write-off, for we would think that Paul, or any other Christian in a similar position today, would be silenced and unable to continue witnessing for the Lord. Paul shared in our second scripture that God was able to use him even more in the prison environment – praise the Lord. I have a good friend in a similar scenario, and God is actively using him in the prison system. Friends, I would challenge you today to never give up on God. Never turn your back on Him, for He can use you in every scenario of life, if only you will let Him. Remember, whether it’s through the times when you feel on top of the world and see God actively involved in your life, or times when you are calling on God, but feel alone in this world, God will prevail, and He could easily prevail in all circumstances of our life, if we will let Him. God WILL prevail! And we will also, if we allow God to rule, reign and operate in every circumstance of our lives. Try it friend! What do you have to lose, when you have eternity to gain?

Prayer: Father, please forgive us for so easily giving up on You and instead grabbing the reins ourselves to create such an awful mess for ourselves. Please forgive us for our littleness, and our attraction to the things of this world, rather than remaining faithful and strong to You. Please touch the lives of Your children who will read this devotional today. May they gain strength from Your Word, and may their eyes be opened to the awful effects of sinful and disobedient actions, as shown in Your Word today. Lord, You alone are worthy and so deserving of our praise, while we are so needy and so dependent on You in every aspect of our lives. Please hear our cries today as we seek Your face and desire Your precious hand upon our lives. I ask these things in faith and in recognition of who You are, in the strong and wonderful name of Jesus, my Lord, Savior and soon coming King, AMEN!
