How To Prove You Are A Follower of Christ

THE HOLY BIBLE John 13:34-35New Living Translation (NLT): 34 So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

THOUGHTS: When you walk into a doctor’s office you will often see the walls plastered with a wide range of certifications they received, and the doctorate degree they earned upon graduating med school. Jesus knew that just as His authority was questioned while here on earth, His followers would also be questioned. So He prepared us for this by telling us how to prove we are His follower. First of all, unlike a doctor’s office where there are signs posted over the office door, we will not be recognized as a follower based on a name badge showing our title, nor a badge across our forehead. However, I believe that it will be evident from our outlook on life, for we will have such an appreciation for the Savior who gave His life so that we could expect life eternally with Him. Just as natural born children inherit the qualities of their parents, I believe that the more Christians learn about their heavenly Father and His teachings on how we should live, and follow the example that Jesus demonstrated while here on earth, then the more that we would be apt to follow in His teachings and example. For example, Jesus loved us enough that He gave His all for us. It is that kind of love that we are expected to demonstrate one for another. When we do, we will prove whose we are, to a world that is so self-centered and looking out for number one. In fact, the ‘Jesus’ kind of love demonstrated by us will be so different to that of the ordinary citizen of this world, that it will be immediately evident that something is different about us. How is it with you friend? Based on your God-like love for your fellow man, is it evident that Jesus is playing a major role in your life? If we only love those who show love to us, how does that make us any different to our friends of this world? If we only give because of what we expect to receive in return, does that make us any different to the average citizen of this world? When we think of ‘love’, we think of Jesus, for the Word of God says that “Jesus is LOVE”. Can the same be said of you and I Christian Brother and Sister? If not, we make it impossible for others to know that we are a follower of Christ, and why would they listen to our testimony or our witness, if we need preaching to ourselves?

PRAYER: Father it often seems like we are losing the battle to win the lost to You. Yet when we read passages like this one today, I believe You are telling us to make sure that those of us who claim You as Lord actually live like You demonstrated for us, and taught us throughout Your Word. In other words, I believe You are telling us to live out the talk, and to let our actions be reflective of Your actions and Your teachings. Then, perhaps, others might recognize that we are children of the King, and worthy of their attention. We can only do this with Your help and through Your power, oh Lord. Please hear our prayer and our heart’s desire, then fill us with Your power so that we may be true imitators of You. I ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior, AMEN!

Who Are You Afraid Of?

THE HOLY BIBLE (New Living Translation – John 7:12-13): 12 There was a lot of grumbling about him among the crowds. Some argued, “He’s a good man,” but others said, “He’s nothing but a fraud who deceives the people.” 13 But no one had the courage to speak favorably about him in public, for they were afraid of getting in trouble with the Jewish leaders.

THOUGHTS: The party was BIG, but in spite of all the planned activities, the people couldn’t help themselves from discussing the things that were happening in their lives, and this included the marvelous works of Jesus that had taken place, and in some case that impacted their lives or that of a close relative. However, the Jewish leaders were keeping close tabs on the crowd, thinking that Jesus would show up for this special festival. So any discussion about Jesus was very much under quiet cover, as no one wanted to witness the wrath of the Jewish leaders. I found it interesting that this little fact was included in the Bible, but then it hit me. Proclaimed Christians today mix with others while still active here on earth. We are faced with ‘Jewish leaders’ of a different kind. We have those friends who will poke fun at us; we have our bosses who are threatened by employees of different beliefs; we have family members who distance themselves from us; all because they heard that we believe something like the Bible and all the weird stuff about healings, raising people from the dead, parting of the Red Sea, worshipping a God who was crucified and supposedly came back to life again, etc. etc. Unfortunately, I believe that most earthly humans strive towards being liked by those they come into contact with, and never look for ways that would deliberately cause the world to hate them. However, because of this, we will often stand idly by and listen to the name of our Lord being abused; poked fun of; and the ‘church’ threatened with closer government intervention so that, supposedly, people could live more harmoniously. The truth is friends, this has weakened the witness of Christians and the church. For when folk see that our witness, or our story, is so weak that we buckle under scrutiny and turn and run the other way, they realize that it was all a farce right from the beginning. In a recent marriage enrichment class, we were taught that a very essential characteristic of a good marriage is consistently showing love and appreciation for our spouse. When Jesus was arrested in the garden, he stayed true to His calling. Even while being beaten on the road to His crucifixion He stayed true to His calling. On the cross, He permitted horrendous mockery, beatings and abuse, because of the mission assigned by His Father – God. He was consistent. Friends, in some parts of the world Christians are being abused and killed because of their consistent witness for our Savior, but in other parts of the world, including the beautiful country in which I live, this is not a real threat for us. So what is our excuse for our inconsistent witness? Who are we afraid of? Why would we ‘belly-up’ and cave in to the same ‘world’ who killed our Savior in the first place? Is it because of worldly greed; or is it truly our choice to please our friends who are temporal at best, rather than pleasing our Savior who gave it all for us? Opportunities will arise for each of us today, and we have the choice of either entering the open door to share the love of Jesus with a friend, or turn away in fear of not being as popular with our friends and see them go to Hell. What will it be for you friend? With Jesus on our side, who can we possibly be afraid of?

PRAYER: Father, we are so weak, and we fail so often to call on the awesome, powerful name of Jesus to help us through our daily challenges. Please forgive us. May we commit to be ‘The Real Thing‘ today because of our increased faith and commitment to You. We are ambassadors of the awesome, powerful, proven, loving, holy name of Jesus, God’s only Son! So could there possibly be anyone in whom in whom we should be afraid? Please teach us to be consistent in our walk and in our talk, whether inside the four walls of our respective churches, or whether we are facing the most challenging enemy here on earth. My God is greater than all our troubles and/or challenges! Praise the wonderful name of Jesus, in whose name I ask all this, AMEN!

What God Wants From You

THE HOLY BIBLE (Contemporary English Version – John 6:28-29): 28 “What exactly does God want us to do?” the people asked. 29 Jesus answered, “God wants you to have faith in the one he sent.”

THOUGHTS: When someone does something special for an appreciative person, the first thing they try to think of is “what might I do to show my appreciation in return”. A humble person is often left with an unworthy feeling when someone does something special for them, because they realize how many other people are so much more deserving of the good works than they are. So let’s look at what the God of this entire universe desires of us in return to the greatest gift ever given. After all, He not only created us and the world in which we live, but God also saw the terrible time that mankind was having in trying to obey the law in order to stay free from sin, so He took the ultimate step of also sending His only offspring, Jesus, as a baby. He worked many recorded miracles through Jesus while here on this earth, but He also realized that He had to make things real simple for humans to ever see the light of heaven, so instead of the many sacrifices that mankind knew since the beginning of time, He decided to make one final sacrifice to prove His ultimate love, and to provide the clear path/access to heaven. This came through the sacrificial death of God’s only Son on the cross at Calvary. However, in the same way that we see many doubters and nay-sayers today, John shows us that their doubt is fed from those who doubted long before our time. Jesus proved His sovereignty in many ways while here on earth, yet in this passage of scripture today we hear, through minds filled with doubt, a question that many will eventually have on their mind, and that is: “what exactly do You want from me Jesus?” Notice how simple the response was in our scripture, and how simple the answer has remained. God simply wants us to acknowledge that we have come to a point where we realize that we cannot personally do anything in and of ourselves to gain righteousness and freedom from this world’s sin, so the only choice is for us to surrender ourselves to the One He sent for the redemption of our sin, His precious, only, Son, JESUS. Having accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord, my heart is filled with the desire to make sure that no one that I know and hold dear to my heart is left behind. This includes family, friends, coworkers, and yes, ‘YOU’ friend, for you are reading this devotional today because of God’s design for you, and through me as His humble servant. You are therefore very special in His eyes, and mine, and I would be overjoyed to know that because of God’s precious Word today, you and I will have a central meeting place – at the feet of Jesus in glory! See you soon? Only God knows how soon! Please take time to read the ‘Footnote’ for help on taking the next step towards becoming a Jesus follower.

PRAYER: Dear God, Your love is beyond anything I can think or imagine, for You provided a way for filthy sinners to see the gates of heaven, by sacrificing Your one and only Son, Jesus as our eternal sin sacrifice. Thank You Heavenly Father! Thank You Jesus, Son of God, Redeemer, Deliverer and everlasting Savior! Lord, I pray that today will be the day of salvation for many who will meditate on this devotional and that they would be reminded once again of Your precious love and provision for them. May the words of verse 29 echo in the hearts of many that You will work on today “God wants you to have faith in the one he sent”. This is not just a statement that You are wanting us to be aware of, but it is a statement of love and desire to have us decide today to be with You, as badly as You want us to be with You. Thank You for expressing love in its purest and unselfish way, just for us. I love You Lord, and I ask all these things in faith, in the name of Jesus, AMEN!

Fully Funded Projects

THE HOLY BIBLE (New Living Translation – Exodus 36:4-7): 4 Finally the craftsmen who were working on the sanctuary left their work. 5 They went to Moses and reported, “The people have given more than enough materials to complete the job the Lord has commanded us to do!” 6 So Moses gave the command, and this message was sent throughout the camp: “Men and women, don’t prepare any more gifts for the sanctuary. We have enough!” So the people stopped bringing their sacred offerings. 7 Their contributions were more than enough to complete the whole project.

THOUGHTS: When was the last time your pastor stood in your church pulpit and followed Moses’ words in telling the people that a project was fully funded and it would not be necessary to continue giving to that project? In this sense, project may sound fairly insignificant in size, but what if the project was building your next sanctuary? Do you remember the last time you may have heard a pastor tell you to lay off giving to that project because the church has more than enough to complete it? So let’s consider why things may have changed. First of all, the scripture is clear that not all of the people freely gave to the cause. In 2:21 we are told that those whose hearts were stirred by the message from God through Moses, responded to the plea for help in providing material for the building project. This sounds pretty much like our churches today, don’t you think? As a result of surveys, we are told that less than 20% of the people do more than 80% of the giving! So why have the others ignored the plea? Friends, I believe that the Word of God is clear on this. Just as the Word tells us that if we humble ourselves and pray, then God would save our nation, I believe that many of us need to humble ourselves to recognize that we have nothing personally to brag about. It is because of God’s grace that we have the health to work, the job to go to, and the income to survive. If we truly acknowledge that fact, why would we withhold giving to Him in proportion to what He has blessed us with? The Word gives us guidance – at least 10%. Because there are other biblical references to ‘first fruits’, I believe that the guidance actually refers to 10% of your gross income. Now because our relationship is one built around love, I don’t believe that we would dare use this as a legalistic demand. People ‘in love’ will generally give freely, and way more than might be expected of them. In a love relationship, there is no such thing as excuses why we can’t give 110% of ourselves to our mate. Should there be when it comes to giving to our Lord and His earthly work? Don’t you know that if each person in our congregations gave like this, that our pastors would frequently be faced with an overflow of income, where pastors and church leaders could decide to expand the ministry after meeting all the needs that they are aware of? I believe that the stress level on our pastors will be drastically reduced, when they don’t have to worry about funding the projects that God has shown them might be necessary to grow the ministry. When we receive our paycheck, there is no negotiating on amounts taken out for government taxes, why should there be constant decision making on how much to give towards God’s work? Determine in your own heart how much you will give and stick to the plan Brother and Sister. We are promised that we will receive more than we could ever imagine or expect. Furthermore, we will receive in proportion to what we have given. May I encourage you to always expect more from God, knowing that you have given in abundance towards His work? Furthermore, rejoice, knowing your loving and all powerful God will abundantly bless you and meet your needs!

PRAYER: Father, it is exciting to see how You work. We give to bless others, yet You wind up also blessing us in return! There just isn’t a way that we can out-give You! Thank You for being so generous, loving and kind to us! I would say that we are so undeserving, but then I am reminded that even while we were undeserving, You sent Your only Son as a sacrifice for us, so that we might have a chance at eternal life in heaven with You. Thank You Father! Thank You Jesus, Son of God! Lord may we learn to give in similar fashion – regardless of whether we feel the receiver or the project is worthy of our love, may we react in obedience to Your will for us. Please bless us as we give, so that our own needs may be met each and every day. May souls be touched for You because of our obedience in giving. I ask these things humbly, yet undeserving, but in the powerful name of our all-giving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, AMEN!

How Much Do You Care?

THE HOLY BIBLE (The Contemporary English Version – John 1:40-41; 43-45): 40 One of the two men who had heard John and had gone with Jesus was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother and tell him, “We have found the Messiah!” The Hebrew word “Messiah” means the same as the Greek word “Christ.” 43-44 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. There he met Philip, who was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter. Jesus said to Philip, “Come with me.” 45 Philip then found Nathanael and said, “We have found the one that Moses and the Prophets wrote about. He is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.”

THOUGHTS: As I read this passage this morning I was moved to compassion for all my family members who may not know the Lord, and for my friends that I come into contact with on a daily basis. Perhaps you didn’t get it the first time reading through the above verses. Check this out: Andrew was moved by the preaching of John and he followed Jesus – the one of whom John spoke. In other words, it’s like Andrew was at church last weekend and accepted Jesus as Lord after hearing the Word of God proclaimed! The first thing that Andrew did, was to find his brother, Simon Peter. Friend, who did you think of the day that you got saved? Would you be ashamed to face Jesus and declare to Him that your family and friends didn’t make it into heaven because you were too busy, or didn’t care enough to tell them about the Lord? Then in verse 44 Jesus called Philip, and immediately he went to find his buddy Nathanael. Friends, who do you care enough about that you would want them to come in out of the rain; be protected from the onslaught of a huge natural disaster like a hurricane or an earthquake? Who would you morn over if you knew that they were headed for a destructive fire and you saw it up ahead but didn’t opt to warn them about it? May I humbly say that this is exactly what your family and friends are facing, if you don’t become a ‘Andrew’ or ‘Philip’ and convince them of the saving grace of Jesus Christ? You have the ‘key’ friend – the answer to help them avoid the depths of hell. Do you care enough to share the answer with them? What’s stopping you? You may fear that they might reject your offer and perhaps laugh at you? And that may be a reality, but will God accuse you of not even trying, or loving them enough to care about their eternal future?

PRAYER: Father God, I believe that often we don’t relate ‘neglect’ or ‘priorities’ as being uncaring or unloving, because we use buzz words like: too busy; fear of rejection; they just won’t listen to me; they are a total atheist; or they have everything they need and refuse to listen to anything about God. I pray that You will open our hearts today Lord, to make decisions based on our relationship with You and Your call on our heart for action, not what we suspect the other person may say, or what they might think, or what they believe, or their ethnicity or proclaimed beliefs are. I pray that when the day comes for us to face You in judgment, that we can honestly and boldly declare like Paul said in 2 Timothy 4:7:  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. This can only be accomplished with our hand in the hand of the One who calmed the waters, who died on Calvary for our sins, and showed love beyond anything we can think of imagine. I ask all this in that very name, the name of Jesus, AMEN!

Hindrances to Worship

THE HOLY BIBLE (Easy-To-Read Version – Hebrews 9:13-14): 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a cow were sprinkled on those who were no longer pure enough to enter the place of worship. The blood and ashes made them pure again—but only their bodies. 14 So surely the blood sacrifice of Christ can do much more. Christ offered himself through the eternal Spirit as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood will make us completely clean from the evil we have done. It will give us clear consciences so that we can worship the living God.

THOUGHTS: I believe that every Bible Teacher or Pastor’s wish would be, that their hearers are getting as much from a lesson as they received when they studied the lesson being taught. I also believe that every Worship Minister would love to know that the folk they are leading in a time of worship were participating from the deepest parts of their heart and receiving a blessing like they receive when leading us. Often we will go to our corporate worship services and while sometimes being totally blessed and pulled into the worship time through full participation, yet at other times we just attend but don’t feel a closeness to our Lord as we worship. These are the times we find fault with the person next to us or behind us, or with the worship leader, or perhaps the volume of the instrumentalists! But friend, if you especially read verse 14, you will notice that as long as we enter God’s house with stained consciences, there just may not be an opportunity for you to connect with God and His Holy Spirit that day. You might remember from God’s Word that God will not be present where sin abounds. I believe that another way of understanding verse 14 might be in the following way: “One cannot worship the Living God without a clear conscience” or unless one has already settled with God concerning their sin. There’s a worship song that has been around for a long time “There’s A Sweet, Sweet Spirit in this Place“. After reading verse 14, I’m not so sure that will even happen for us if we present ourselves for worship with sin in our life. Perhaps we should have a confession service first, then, perhaps, the Spirit of God might find clean hearts and consciences in which He is free to move and to bless. Let’s keep this in mind the next time that we attempt to worship God. Clean hearts will draw close to God, as it is the only way that He will draw close to you and I.

PRAYER: How dare us attempt to enter Your presence in sin, Oh God, especially thinking that we can block the hindrances (our sin) while we attempt to worship You. It’s not enough for us to conjure up a time of ‘worship’ Lord Jesus, for we want to be where You are, and we want to worship You in sincerity of heart, soul and mind. Please forgive us for attempting to worship You, the One who never sinned, yet with sin in our hearts. Please cleanse me of all unrighteousness, so that as I approach Your throne I can do so with a clear conscience and without sin. Please touch the hearts of my readers Lord, so that they too might be enlightened of any sin that not only separates them from You, but also blocks their true worship of You. Lord, may You rule and reign in every aspect of our lives and especially prepare us for frequent times of worship to You. I love you Lord, and I lift my voice and heart in worship to You alone. My prayer is offered in and through the name of Jesus, the only one worthy of my worship and praise, AMEN!

Go In Jesus’ Name

THE HOLY BIBLE (New Living Translation – Matthew 10:7-10): 7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received! 9 “Don’t take any money in your money belts—no gold, silver, or even copper coins. 10 Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.

THOUGHTS: I was recently blessed with being able to take a missions’ trip with my church to a foreign country. We went through months of coaching, encouragement, spiritual strengthening and fund raising to prepare for the eventual day that we would travel for a week. Because of our preparation and excellent leadership, our trip was flawless. As I read this passage of scripture today, I couldn’t help but think how quickly we may have dropped to the floor in shock if we were given instructions similar to what the disciples were given. Take your trip, but: no money, no extra clothes or sandals, just go with all that you’ve been blessed with. Of course when we think about what we have been blessed with, we tend to think about all of these very things mentioned. Think about what the disciples were blessed with: the power to heal the sick; raise the dead; cure leprosy and cast out evil spirits. We may marvel that we shouldn’t need anything else, if given that kind of power from above, however I’m sure that we will worry about how those gifts will help us at the airport with plane tickets, or at the van rental company. Friends, I believe that the most important words in this scripture are the words that I bolded. Jesus freely empowered the disciples with gifts that would prove His power among the Israelites. What do you suppose He has empowered us with that might help those that we will come into contact with today that will be reflective of His love and His power? Friends, be reminded that Jesus was a great example for us to follow – He wept when His friends were sad over the passing of a brother; He rejoiced at a wedding with His friends and even performed miracles so that the party could go on; He stood up for wrong when He visibly showed His anger in the temple when He found that His house was being used as a commerce center; He recognized needs and met those needs; He loved sacrificially, even when the people hated Him so much that they led Him to a cruel death. This is our role model for us friends. There are many gifts that we have been blessed with, and this scripture is encouraging us to give of these gifts ungrudgingly, just as they have been given to us ungrudgingly. Will you do it friend?

PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for loving us, and thank You for giving to us from the abundance of Your love for us. When presented with opportunities to share those gifts with others today, may we openly and willingly share, so that others might recognize the love of Jesus as expressed through us. It is very evident that people need the Lord – all people. May they see enough of You in and through us that they might desire a more intimate relationship with You. Provoke us to be channels of Your blessing, Your love and Your power today, for I ask this in the loving and powerful name of Jesus, AMEN!

What Triggers Your Praise?

THE HOLY BIBLE (The Living Bible – Psalm 138:1-3): Lord, with all my heart I thank you. I will sing your praises before the armies of angels. 2 I face your Temple as I worship, giving thanks to you for all your loving-kindness and your faithfulness, for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. 3 When I pray, you answer me and encourage me by giving me the strength I need.

THOUGHTS: In this Psalm we can see where David was touched by, or reminded of the love of God and His undying faithfulness, and it triggered his worship of God. Notice that David said he faced the temple as he worshipped, but he didn’t wait until the next worship service where he could watch the praise team worship or the pastor rejoice over a passage of scripture that God spoke to him about. Friends please don’t get me wrong, each of these things I mentioned are important, but I truly believe that when we recognize the love of our God, when we feel His precious love for us individually and we realize that He is faithful to us in every aspect of our lives, then we will be moved to worship God on a very personal level. When we do that, I believe that our corporate worship services will take on a whole new dimension, for our churches will be filled with worshippers, not just Christians looking for a place to be electrified, or energized by a good worship leader or an awesome praise team. David goes on in these verses to say that he is reminded that all of the promises of God are backed by the honor of His holy name – the name above all names! He is also encouraged that the God of this universe answers his prayers and encourages him by giving him the strength that he needs to go on each day and live a strong and noble life for the Lord. These are all wonderful reminders for us to also worship our God, but this list is not all inclusive. For I think of the wonders of nature that He places before me as I drive to work, the beauty of another sunrise, the blessing of rain, of cows and wildlife playing in the fields and pastures. Most of all, like David, I am amazed that the God of this universe takes time to listen to my prayers and answers/comforts my concerns. Who am I that a Kind should bleed and die for? Yet, I am convinced that He would have sacrificed himself on that old cruel cross if I was the only one in need of a Savior. He loved me that much, and it is no different in the love that my Savior has for each of you today friend. Worship Him! Thank Him! Recognize His goodness and never attribute His careful and deliberate love for you as mere chance or good luck. Make every effort to be a personal, worshipping believer, not just one looking for a place for corporate worship of the Savior who loves you personally so very much.

PRAYER: Father in heaven, You have given us so much reason to worship You from the depth of our heart. Please awaken Your saints from the sleep of laziness, or dependence on others and/or other influences to invoke a heart of worship within us. Please help us to rest from the busyness of this life long enough to reflect on Your goodness, Your love and Your undying faithfulness. The Psalmist has triggered our minds and reminded us of the awesome joy in lifting up praise and worship to You, may this be a day that our eyes will be opened to reflect on Your beauty and Your goodness and may we recommit to a personal relationship with the God of this universe who loves us personally and cares for us intimately. Thank You Father for loving and caring for even me. These things I ask of You in the precious name of Your Son, my Savior and King, Jesus. AMEN!

God’s Decree

THE HOLY BIBLE (The Message – Jeremiah 29:11-14): 11 I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. 12 “When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. 13-14 “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree.

THOUGHTS: Generally when we hear of a ‘Decree’ it involves certain actions that a king has ordered. This ‘Decree’ is then given to the king’s law makers to carry out the ‘Decree’ because it has been ordered by the highest law maker of the day – the king, and it generally has no conditions to it. The ‘Decree’ spoken of in today’s scripture is quite different, for God declares His unswerving commitment to His people and then follows with how the people might contribute to the end result of the promise. We are all very aware of how this world came into existence, and how it was almost eradicated at one point by a world-wide flood because of man’s sin. I believe that God wants us to know and understand that He has awesome plans for us to one day join Him in heaven. He has pointed out in various places throughout the Bible that sin cannot enter heaven, so in verse 12 He has assured us that He will listen when we come to Him in prayer. This is reassuring friends, because whenever we wrong someone, we tend to stay away from them in shamefulness, thinking that they will want nothing to do with us. Instead, God tells us that He will listen! Wow! We are also assured that there will be no trouble finding God, especially if we get serious about finding Him. Why do you suppose that God would add ‘when we get serious’ to this point? I believe there are times that we simply go through the motions, and for a quick response back to a person trying to nudge us along, might simply be that we just can’t find what we’re looking for. However, when the thing/person we are searching for is our idea, and we feel it/they will impact our lives, then we exert a whole new effort into the search. We become more determined or serious about our search. Perhaps the Word says it best – when we get so serious about finding God that we want Him more than anything else, then we will find Him. Friends, we can rejoice in knowing that as we exert this extra effort and become serious about our eternal destiny, God assures us that we will not be disappointed. So how is it with you today friend? Have you gotten serious enough about your relationship with God, or about your eternal destiny, that you are ready to seek God’s face in prayer and allow Him to love on you, care for you, listen to you and satisfy your earthly needs with a heavenly peace of mind? Only God can do it, and He will only do it if you let Him into your life. Please read my ‘footnote’ for ways you can get help with this, for this is of super importance.

PRAYER: When we’ve messed up so much that we’re not sure which way is up, then we tend to look to You for help, but Lord God I pray that we will learn to call out to You on a regular basis, because we are so helpless without You. Thank You for Your reassurance today. Thank You for our eternal home with You in heaven. Thank You for being accessible to us in prayer. Please don’t give up on me, for I need You more today than ever before. Please do the same for my readers who are serious in their search for You and willing to surrender their meager abilities to a life of total obedience to You and Your precious Word. Please have Your will and way in our lives today oh Lord, is my simple and profound cry that I ask in the strong name of Jesus, AMEN!

Can We Still Praise Him?

THE HOLY BIBLE (New Century Version – Habakkuk 3:17-19): 17 Fig trees may not grow figs, and there may be no grapes on the vines. There may be no olives growing and no food growing in the fields. There may be no sheep in the pens and no cattle in the barns. 18 But I will still be glad in the Lord; I will rejoice in God my Savior. 19 The Lord God is my strength. He makes me like a deer that does not stumble so I can walk on the steep mountains.

THOUGHTS: How often do we allow the trials of this world to interfere with our worship to our awesome God? That’s right folk, God is still awesome – in spite of what we may have brought on ourselves, or the repercussions of our sin. After all, did He cancel the debt He paid for us on the cross, suddenly couldn’t care less about a situation, and allowed Satan a foothold in our lives? Did God not protect us during a time that we felt like our world was coming to an end – perhaps the loss of a loved one, or a favorite vehicle or even our home? Why then do we first lash out on God for not saving the day for us? He’s still God friend! He still cares for us and would surrender to the cross of Calvary all over again if He felt like it would make a difference for us. In this scripture today, we see where the prophet had lots of reasons to turn away (in verse 17), get in some corner and just feel sorry for himself. In fact some would even have cursed God if they had as much going on as indicated in verse 17. However, in verse 18 we see where Habakkuk proclaimed that in spite of all that was evident around him, he still had a God to praise and nothing would take away his joy in the Lord. For just like us today, the Lord God was his strength – as He is ours today. God gave His prophet a strong footing to see him through challenging times, and I am reassured that He does the same for us today! So friends, can we take the blinders off and not just look at the circumstances that Satan may have pushed in front of us to distract us, but can we widen the scope and also see the amazing blessings that God showers on us every day? Perhaps then we can say like the prophet, “I too will rejoice in God my Savior”! Unbelievers need to see this quality in us friends, for they need to be convinced that this Savior we proclaim, is actually there for us through the good times, but also through the challenging times of our lives.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for being our God every day and in every circumstance. Please help us to understand and be constantly reminded that You are always there for us. Your love for us is way beyond anything we could comprehend, so of course there are things that occur in our lives that we just don’t understand why. Please help us to not just praise You when all is bright and sunny, but also when things seem very dismal for us, for You are with us ALWAYS, You love us ALWAYS and You are ALWAYS looking out for our best interest. You are amazing and such an awesome God! Thank You for being my Savior and Lord. Please encourage those readers who may not feel ‘on top of the world’ today because life circumstances are not where they feel they should be. Please draw them especially close to Your side, shower them with Your love and show them that You care for them and their circumstances. I ask all this in the awesome name of Jesus, Messiah, my Savior and Friend, AMEN!
