God’s Response To Our Asking, Seeking and Knocking

We tend to ask for what we wish; we tend to seek for what we miss; and we tend to knock for that from which we feel ourselves shut out. Today’s Scripture appears to point believers to the triple assurance of success when we stop to pray in deep sincerity. When our hearts are one with God, we tend to petition the Father in right form, and I believe that we will see Him stop to give us His full attention and response. Meditate with me as we dwell on the Word of God today.

SCRIPTURE FROM: Matthew 7:7-11
TRANSLATION: The Passion Translation (TPT)

BIBLE TEXT: “Ask, and the gift is yours. Seek, and you’ll discover. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. For every persistent one will get what he asks for. Every persistent seeker will discover what he longs for. And everyone who knocks persistently will one day find an open door.
“Do you know of any parent who would give his hungry child, who asked for food, a plate of rocks instead? 10 Or when asked for a piece of fish, what parent would offer his child a snake instead? 11 If you, imperfect as you are, know how to lovingly take care of your children and give them what’s best, how much more ready is your heavenly Father to give wonderful gifts to those who ask him?”

APPLICATION: It seems like humans just need the right incentive and they will show persistence in whatever their heart desires. While prayer is more than just asking for God’s help, it does seem to be one of the foremost reasons that we pray. I remember in prayer meetings being asked to just praise God, or give thanks to Him, without asking for anything, at least for the first few minutes. It was a challenging thing to do, for we soon enough got into asking God for His help or for His provisions. There was a great leader who taught us to seek the face of Jesus, and we will quickly recognize His outstretched hand in giving us very important items that we so desperately needed. A neat concept, yet we soon found ourselves petitioning for our needs and wants. My eyes were opened as I found the commentary shared in my introduction to this Scripture. For it showed me that Jesus was probably teaching us that as we strive to discover, or find something, we will keep on seeking. As we try to satisfy our curiosity about what lies beyond the unknown, we will keep on knocking, just like we do when we need to know who’s inside a room. If we ever received a response to our asking for something, then we will keep on asking. Behind each persistent action, there is incentive for us to keep doing it. Think about it, a baby will keep crying until we go and pick them up, give them milk, or change their diaper. I believe that Jesus wants us to have that same persistence, and in these verses He is telling us that if we are persistent, He will hear the cry of our heart and meet our need. In sharing the example of our earthly father, I believe Jesus was assuring us that He is our heavenly Father, and He will certainly hear the desires and needs of our heart and He will extend His hand to satisfy our needs. So dear friends, let me ask that you join with me in building that relationship with our heavenly Father, knowing that He will hear the cry of our hearts and meet our needs. I don’t know that there has ever been a greater time of need by mankind than today.

BLESSING(S) NOTED: No one every cared for me like Jesus!

PRAYER: I need thee every hour, most precious Lord. Please help me through these rough and stormy days. Covid, excessive crime, enormous unemployment, skyrocketing cost of living, and just knowing that someone cares about how we will handle all these things. Only You Lord can satisfy our very personal needs. Please give us strength and wisdom for the challenges of each and every day. May unbelievers especially see how well You care for Your own, for they truly need something that will turn their minds and their heads towards You. AMEN!

Share The Amazement of Jesus

The New Testament is filled with accounts of awe as many people witnessed the power, the love and amazement of our Lord Jesus. There are many accounts of eyewitnesses going and spreading the good news of all that this Son of God was capable of doing, as they had witnessed it with their own eyes, or experienced it personally. Our story today is one such story, as it shares the power of Jesus to even demand evil spirits to leave a troubled man.

From:

Mark 1:25-28 (TLB)

Text:

25 Jesus curtly commanded the demon to say no more and to come out of the man. 26 At that the evil spirit screamed and convulsed the man violently and left him. 27 Amazement gripped the audience and they began discussing what had happened.

“What sort of new religion is this?” they asked excitedly. “Why, even evil spirits obey his orders!”

28 The news of what he had done spread quickly through that entire area of Galilee.

OBSERVATION:
The New Testament is filled with accounts of awe as many people witnessed the power, the love and amazement of our Lord Jesus. There are many accounts of eyewitnesses going and spreading the good news of all that this Son of God was capable of doing, as they had witnessed it with their own eyes, or experienced it personally. Our story today is one such story, as it shares the power of Jesus to even demand evil spirits to leave a troubled man.
APPLICATION:
Walk in to any sanctuary in your area and I’m sure you will find people in attendance for various reasons. For some, it’s just the place to be on Saturday or Sunday mornings – tradition; for others, it’s the music that blesses your soul and you look forward to the next service to participate in and be blessed by the music; others might find comfort in being around nice people; while others are blessed beyond measure to hear their pastor speak. Can you think of any other reason why people show up for church services? Notice one thing missing from all of the reason I shared? How many actually show up for church to meet Jesus there, or are excited to be there because they want to be the first to celebrate what Jesus will do again today in our midst? Wouldn’t it be neat if people would walk in the doors of our churches and be looking all around to see where Jesus is at work, in response to their prayers? Friends, our churches are probably more needful than patients in hospital, for there are some burdened by sin; some hurting very badly from a bad marriage or sibling rivalry; there are some who are hurting terribly because of the pain in their bodies; some overwhelmed by finances or by kids who are headed in the wrong direction; and praise God, there are some who are ready to shout for joy and share an experience of Jesus being active in their life during that week. Let me ask you to ponder, what might our community hear about if each of the above groups returned home with their ‘cups filled and running over’ from God meeting their needs at church that day? What would be the difference to the neighbors in what they saw in the past, to what they might witness when we go to church expecting to meet God there, expecting a miracle? Friends, God did precisely this many times before in stories related in the Bible, and there is great satisfaction and excitement in Christians not only knowing that God is alive, but that He is actively at work in each of our lives still today! Is this possible? Of course it is, our God is alive and ready to work in our lives if we will pray to Him, search Him out, expect to find Him, and make ourselves truly available to Him. The world will believe and accept this when they see it for themselves through God’s messengers here on earth. That’s you and I, Christian Brother and Sister!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to not only make a way for us to enter heaven’s glory and spend eternity with You, but also to be actively involved in our lives each and every day. Please helps us to constantly be in a state of recognizing Your involvement in our lives, and even more, help us to never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the miracles of our awesome God! Praise God that You are alive today precious Jesus, and praise Him that You are alive and active in my life. Please be especially visible to my friends who will read this devotional and to all my family and friends that I will touch in some way today. Glorify Your name oh Lord! AMEN!

Let Faith Direct Our Lives

THE HOLY BIBLE: Since we are surrounded by so many examples ⌊of faith⌋, we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin that distracts us. We must run the race that lies ahead of us and never give up. We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith….. (‭Hebrews‬ ‭12‬:‭1-2‬ GW)

THOUGHTS: I believe that these verses are telling us that faith is a tried and proven characteristic that we can build our lives on, in confidence. Often when we are dare try something new, we may have to go on faith believing on the everlasting God to direct our path and take care of us through various circumstances. That kind of faith is supported by a believer’s first-hand experience with the Father. The faith referred to here in our scripture today is a proven faith by our ancestors, and is one that we could bank on, or depend on, or confidently follow. As parents, and based on our experiences, we give lots of advice to our children, and we demonstrate life principles before them that they can follow, or at least take note of. This is the type faith demonstrated by those who have gone on before us. Think about Moses when he ran out of desert and only had the Red Sea ahead of him. He was leading thousands of people who were still doubtful of His leadership. He was under a lot of pressure to keep them safe, but through His faith in the God who first freed him and his people from slavery in Egypt, in continued faith, he followed God’s instructions and saw the miracle of the waters parting to make possible what man thought was impossible. This is just one example of what faith can do friends! However, we have access to the same strong hand of the same God who miraculously parted the Red Sea, knowing that He is as powerful today as He has ever been, and He is as effective in our ‘mountains/problems/challenges/’ as He has ever been in the past. For those of us who have a personal relationship with this awesome God, we know that we must simple surrender to the mighty works of His hand, and in faith, stand by to watch Him perform His mighty works. For my readers who may not know about this faith of which I speak, may I encourage you to read my Footnote for help on how to know my Friend, my Savior, in a personal and intimate way. It is only then that you will receive power to have the kind of faith of which I speak – one that You will then be willing to place your trust and obedience in. It’s your move friend. What will you do with Jesus?

PRAYER: Thank You for Your all-powerful hand dear Father. Thank You for loving me enough to welcome me into your family, and for giving me faith to believe in You and follow Your will and Your way for my life. Lord, You are well aware of the major challenges that face this audience today, and in the minds of many, these problems may seem larger than the challenge that Moses faced at the Red Sea. However, I am confident that Your promise to never leave us alone, and to meet our needs are as relevant today as when You first declared it in Your Word. Father, there is nothing in this world that can comfort us and give us confidence about our future, but I know who holds the future and who holds my hand through every circumstance of life, so I renew my faith in You and look forward to all that You will do in my life for Your ultimate glory! Please touch every reader of this devotional today and reassure them of Your power and the confidence that is theirs as they trust wholeheartedly in You. I ask all this in the all powerful name of Jesus, my Savior and my King, in faith, AMEN!
