Trusting our Faithful God

DATE POSTED Friday, 2021-10-15
WRITTEN AT: Okeechobee, FL

SCRIPTURE FROM: 1 Samuel 9:17-20
TRANSLATION: Contemporary English Version (CEV)

BIBLE TEXT: 17 Samuel looked at Saul, and the Lord told Samuel, “This is the man I told you about. He’s the one who will rule Israel.”
18 Saul went over to Samuel in the gateway and said, “A man who can see visions lives here in town. Could you tell me the way to his house?”
19 “I am the one who sees visions!” Samuel answered. “Go on up to the place of worship. You will eat with me today, and in the morning I’ll answer your questions. 20 Don’t worry about your donkeys that ran off three days ago. They’ve already been found…..

APPLICATION: This is an intriguing story of the power of our God, and His wisdom through mankind. So I encourage you to read the whole chapter as you look for the ways God spoke to, and used Samuel, and how He directed Saul in the path he should go so that God’s plan might materialize. I was totally blown away as I watched both sides of the plan unfold! I’m sure that reading this chapter while I am right in the middle of some very shocking news that could only unfold by the powerful touch of our miracle-working God, made a huge impact on me. But in sharing this, I believe that many of my readers may identify with, and be encouraged by, this story, knowing that they are heavily dependent on God at this time for a deep concern that only a miracle from God can resolve. Friends, anything that is bigger than us, or our abilities to resolve, is huge in our eyes, and seem impossible to us. However, for those who believe in God – the One who created the world and everything that’s alive in it. The One who parted the waters to form dry land for His people to escape an oncoming army. The One who made the blind man see again, the dead man to rise from the dead again and the crippled to walk again. That God! He is our Almighty God and He sent His very own Son, Jesus, to be our eternal Savior! Just as this God showed Samuel who would be the king of Israel, and just as He directed Saul into the presence of Samuel, He also gave our forefathers confidence to trust in His timeless and endless truth, and He has promised to be our God for all eternity! Knowing all this dear friends, can you think of any good reason why you shouldn’t place your full faith and trust in Him? Why worry when You can trust God in everything? Why the concern, when God knows what tomorrow will bring or if that son or daughter will survive the cruelty of all this world bombards them with? Won’t you join me in trusting God for ALL things today? He promised that He would never leave us alone, and I believe that with all my heart, soul and mind. But perhaps today a Brother or Sister might be seeing impossible roadblocks that makes them doubt that promise. We need strength and encouragement from each other when we are feeling weak. Let’s look for the opportunities that God is sending our way, and be bold in our faith. Let’s learn to trust in God and depend on His unending grace.

BLESSING(S) NOTED: All things work together for goo, to those who place their faith and trust in the God of this universe! He did it for Samuel and the Israelites, and He will do it for us. Nothing is impossible with God!

PRAYER: Those things that seem impossible in our eyes, can be changed by just a word from the Master of this universe. Thank You precious Lord for accepting me as a son of the Most Hight God! Praise God for all that you did for Samuel, and for guiding Saul so that he could fulfill his purpose. Many things in this old life here on earth seem impossible to us, but praise be to God, we are children of the God who specializes in the impossible! Lord, please renew our confidence in You each day, so that we might learn to trust You fully in all the things of earth. Please use us for Your great purpose oh Lord so that those we come into contact with might be drawn to You. AMEN!

From:

Judges 7:13-15 (TLB)

Text:

…. “I had this strange dream,” he was saying, “and there was this huge loaf of barley bread that came tumbling down into our camp. It hit our tent and knocked it flat!”
14 The other soldier replied, “Your dream can mean only one thing! Gideon, the son of Joash, the Israeli, is going to come and massacre all the allied forces of Midian!”
15 When Gideon heard the dream and the interpretation, all he could do was just stand there worshiping God!
OBSERVATION:
In order to encourage Gideon that everything was aligning just as God said it would for the battle against the Midianites and their allies, God told Gideon to sneak down by their camp and he might overhear something! This was the last piece of encouragement that Gideon needed, but before he proceeded to battle, he first stopped and worshipped the Lord God for being so patient with him and for the awesome God that He was! A great lesson for all of us….
APPLICATION:
I would encourage you to read the whole chapter on this, because Gideon was just like us in doubting that he was really hearing from God, and about His mighty works. God went through a time of testing by Gideon, that allowed him to prove that it was really God telling him to go to battle. Then Gideon put together the size army that he thought he would need, around 32,000 men. In verse 2 God told Gideon that He wanted to make sure that his army would never boast of their own works in this battle, so God ordered Gideon on how to reduce the army to…. 300 men! Can you imagine how blown away Gideon must have been? But Gideon was very obedient and did as God said. Just in case Gideon was still having some doubt, God gave him yet another piece of encouragement, by sending him to the outskirts of the enemy camp so he could overhear how they were feeling. Friends, I know that we read story after story in the Bible that might frighten us about our lack of faith in the all-powerful God that we serve, but this story reminded me of the peace that we can have in our totally patient God. He is awesome in power and could independently win battles with, or without us. His love for us is outstanding. His patience for those that He created is strikingly amazing! There is no god like our God! There is no love, like the love He has for us! Praise God that He encourages us through our humble pittance that we could attribute to His work, knowing full well that more often than not, we probably just get in His way. Yet He is patient and willing to teach us each time that we are willing to participate in His work! Friends, if we are going to be the image of Christ to unbelievers, we must be engaged in His work. Yes, we know that we are not able to do a whole lot using only our God-given talent, but just as God told Gideon, He wants it to be evident that God performs the miracle, or the work, even though He may have allowed us to be involved here on earth!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, You are awesome in every aspect of life! It blows us away that You would even use such simple folk as us to accomplish Your work, and that Your mighty work can be accomplished through us, if only we would humble ourselves and let You. Just as we read about the miracles you performed through Gideon, I have faith to believe that You can also do the same through Your servants today. Many who will read this devotional today know You personally. Please use us in Your work here on earth in some form, so that Your work might spread throughout the earth even through us. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, AMEN!

A Reminder of Who our God Is

Post Date:

SCRIPTURE

From:

Joshua 4:21-24 (TLB)

Text:

21 Then Joshua explained again the purpose of the stones: “In the future,” he said, “when your children ask you why these stones are here and what they mean, 22 you are to tell them that these stones are a reminder of this amazing miracle—that the nation of Israel crossed the Jordan River on dry ground! 23 Tell them how the Lord our God dried up the river right before our eyes and then kept it dry until we were all across! It is the same thing the Lord did forty years ago at the Red Sea! 24 He did this so that all the nations of the earth will realize that Jehovah is the mighty God, and so that all of you will worship him forever.”
OBSERVATION:
God performed many miracles for the Israelites as he brought them across the desert from Egypt to the land He had promised them for their freedom. In wanting these miracles to be burnt into their minds and referred back to often, God demanded that they build a memorial in, and near the Jordan River crossing so that if they forget to tell their children, they themselves will see the memorial and ask about it’s purpose. God still acts miraculously in our lives today, so let’s examine if we might learn something to apply from this experience!
APPLICATION:
Cemeteries are plastered with memorials of loved ones buried there. Some tomb stones are simple, with the name and dates between which the person lived, while others may have a favorite saying of the individual or their favorite verse. Crosses, flowers and placards naming person(s) killed in a car crash are often seen along road-sides. Huge memorials are placed at military cemeteries marking the names of individuals who served and died while defending our country in war. National disasters, such as the 9-11 event have similar huge memorials established. However, what do we do to preserve the memories of the huge evangelistic events, such as the one where God spoke to our heart and where many miracles may have been witnessed? Many great things may have been said at the funeral of your grandfather, but how will those things be related to your grandchildren many years down the road? Our memories seem to be getting shorter and shorter as we depend on computers more and more! It might be good for us to do something like Joshua did and place a marker, or a memorial about certain highlights in our lives, so that our children, grandchildren and future generations might be told of that awesome miracle that God performed in our lives. Hearing our story might be the exact encouragement that a relative or friend needs when they are drifting away from God or beginning to question His awesome power. Friends, we may never encounter a Red Sea or Jordan River miracle like Joshua and his people did, but as God personalizes our miracle, it sure would be good to establish a memorial of that miracle, if for no other reason than to cause family and friends to ask you about it when they visit – giving you the opportunity to brag on God and His awesome miracles in your life. Don’t feel like you will be bragging on yourself, for there was nothing that Joshua and his thousands of men did to help hold the Jordan River waters back while they all crossed to the other side on a dry river bed. Only God can receive the praise for that!
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we are often overwhelmed by the miracle-working God that we serve, for Your Word relays incident after incident of Your great power. These miracles still happen today, because You are still alive and very active in the lives of Your children. Help us to stop attributing Your wondrous works to things such as good luck; or the good doctors; or happen-chance. If we have faith to trust in You enough to ask for Your divine help, then please help us to be bold in declaring Your miracles that You might perform to help us through a situation. Just as You proved Yourself faithful to Joshua and the Israelites, we know without a doubt that You can do it again for us, no matter what our need might be! Praise to our awesome God! AMEN!

Share The Amazement of Jesus

Post Date:

Wednesday, 2017-04-12
SCRIPTURE

From:

Mark 1:25-28 (TLB)

Text:

25 Jesus curtly commanded the demon to say no more and to come out of the man. 26 At that the evil spirit screamed and convulsed the man violently and left him. 27 Amazement gripped the audience and they began discussing what had happened.

“What sort of new religion is this?” they asked excitedly. “Why, even evil spirits obey his orders!”

28 The news of what he had done spread quickly through that entire area of Galilee.

OBSERVATION:
The New Testament is filled with accounts of awe as many people witnessed the power, the love and amazement of our Lord Jesus. There are many accounts of eyewitnesses going and spreading the good news of all that this Son of God was capable of doing, as they had witnessed it with their own eyes, or experienced it personally. Our story today is one such story, as it shares the power of Jesus to even demand evil spirits to leave a troubled man.
APPLICATION:
Walk in to any sanctuary in your area and I’m sure you will find people in attendance for various reasons. For some, it’s just the place to be on Saturday or Sunday mornings – tradition; for others, it’s the music that blesses your soul and you look forward to the next service to participate in and be blessed by the music; others might find comfort in being around nice people; while others are blessed beyond measure to hear their pastor speak. Can you think of any other reason why people show up for church services? Notice one thing missing from all of the reason I shared? How many actually show up for church to meet Jesus there, or are excited to be there because they want to be the first to celebrate what Jesus will do again today in our midst? Wouldn’t it be neat if people would walk in the doors of our churches and be looking all around to see where Jesus is at work, in response to their prayers? Friends, our churches are probably more needful than patients in hospital, for there are some burdened by sin; some hurting very badly from a bad marriage or sibling rivalry; there are some who are hurting terribly because of the pain in their bodies; some overwhelmed by finances or by kids who are headed in the wrong direction; and praise God, there are some who are ready to shout for joy and share an experience of Jesus being active in their life during that week. Let me ask you to ponder, what might our community hear about if each of the above groups returned home with their ‘cups filled and running over’ from God meeting their needs at church that day? What would be the difference to the neighbors in what they saw in the past, to what they might witness when we go to church expecting to meet God there, expecting a miracle? Friends, God did precisely this many times before in stories related in the Bible, and there is great satisfaction and excitement in Christians not only knowing that God is alive, but that He is actively at work in each of our lives still today! Is this possible? Of course it is, our God is alive and ready to work in our lives if we will pray to Him, search Him out, expect to find Him, and make ourselves truly available to Him. The world will believe and accept this when they see it for themselves through God’s messengers here on earth. That’s you and I, Christian Brother and Sister!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to not only make a way for us to enter heaven’s glory and spend eternity with You, but also to be actively involved in our lives each and every day. Please helps us to constantly be in a state of recognizing Your involvement in our lives, and even more, help us to never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the miracles of our awesome God! Praise God that You are alive today precious Jesus, and praise Him that You are alive and active in my life. Please be especially visible to my friends who will read this devotional and to all my family and friends that I will touch in some way today. Glorify Your name oh Lord! AMEN!
