Tested, Tried and Proven

Psalm 18:30 (AMP): 30 As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him.

So… you think that you’ve been tested, or perhaps you might feel that you are currently being tested beyond anything you could handle. How are you doing with that? Feeling really alone and overwhelmed about how you might overcome life’s circumstances that are hitting you real hard right now? Where do you turn to for help? Perhaps a spouse, or a brother or sister, perhaps a parent, or perhaps you are blessed with good friends who are willing to stand by your side. Are they more knowledgeable, wise or powerful than you, and therefore offers comfort to you? I have an acquaintance who just lost his wife, what words of wisdom might I offer him? My friend, let me share from my personal experience: you see, I’m human just like you, so I face all of the challenges that I just presented to you above. Yes, I depend on friends and family to help me through times of despair also, but one thing that I’ve discovered is that they are just as limited as I am in trying to explain the reasons why the events of this life occur as, and when they do. So while I’m comforted that they care, there is only ONE that I can turn to and say like The Psalmist – Your ways are perfect oh Lord, thank You for creating me and blessing me with wonderful folk who love and care for me. But Lord, You know my every breath, You know the reasons for every event in my life, You alone know what tomorrow holds and the reason why I must travel the road You’ve prepared just for me. Oh Lord, may You be honored, praised, magnified and lifted up through every word and action that You allow me to project here on earth. Life will be worth it all if You are glorified by all who are touched by Your reflection in my life. May they desire to know You personally and intimately so that they, in turn, may bless others for the kingdom.

Prayer: Lord, May You be glorified through every act of love and every blessing that You continue to shower on me today. Please humble my friends who need You, and if one word expressed in this devotional can be used to draw others unto You, I pray that the glory will be all Yours and may the kingdom increase as a result of sharing Your Word and my humble thoughts. AMEN!

God’s Grace Is All We Need

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! Read on and be blessed friend!………

The Bible Text: (Paul speaking)… Because of the extravagance of those revelations, and so I wouldn’t get a big head, I was given the gift of a handicap to keep me in constant touch with my limitations. Satan’s angel did his best to get me down; what he in fact did was push me to my knees. No danger then of walking around high and mighty! At first I didn’t think of it as a gift, and begged God to remove it. Three times I did that, and then he told me,
My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.

My Take Away: I was recently speaking with a friend who showed me a collar he had purchased for his dog who, would normally pull you off your feet when you tried to walk him on a chain. This collar would now pinch together more and more whenever pressure is applied to it. So the harder the dog pulls the more the collar would pinch, therefore causing the dog to stop pulling so hard. I hope you will forgive me for using that as a demonstration to show what I believe Paul meant in this passage of scripture. Think about it, Paul was thanking God for his infirmity, because he felt like whenever he was tempted to ‘take the wheel’ and assume responsibility of a situation, his infirmity would limit him, and therefore cause him to deflect and plead with the God of this universe. And rightfully so friends, for God, and God alone has the power to handle all of life’s challenges, or deal in the hearts of man and draw mankind to Himself.

Application: So, how then should we apply this to our lives when we are so sure of how every situation should be handled, or how the church should be run, or when we feel like our heads will explode if we had to deal with one more crisis? Friends, the Words of our Savior quoted by Paul, are still very applicable to us today, for I believe God is constantly reminding us that His grace is sufficient for everything we need. In fact, God’s grace works best for us when we surrender to our weaknesses and submit our concerns to God. It’s at the feet of Jesus where miracles occur, where His wondrous acts occur, where it becomes extremely evident that it is God who is in control and that we are merely servants ready and willing to carry out His commands. Let’s be careful to never try and assume God’s roll, for we must never de-throne God. He’s our guide, and He’s our friend, BUT He will always be God and He will always rule in majesty, not just over us, but also in every circumstance of our lives. Let’s never be too ‘big’ to take even the ‘little’ things of life before Him, for it is in every answer by God that we gain our confidence and increase our faith. This encourages us to submit  even the ‘largest’ things (those things that seem downright impossible to mere man) to God for His divine intervention. Remember, His grace is sufficient, and it is all that we need for situations today, or that we will ever need. For He is… our great BIG wonderful, miracle working, awesome, sacrificial, Son of the Almighty God of this universe, and of you and I!

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for Your awesome power, yet Your humility to be concerned about our every need, and especially about our humanly impossibilities. Thank You for taking the impossibilities and challenges of Your servant Paul, to remind us that Your grace is still sufficient for even us, and even in our modern day world of technology and human accomplishments. Each and every day we are presented with situations that we wish we could do something about. Please help us to always stay true to our role as Your servants and allow You to be the awesome God that You are. I ask these things in all humility, and in the precious name of Your Son, Jesus, AMEN!

When Life is At Its Toughest

The Holy Bible

When life is heavy and hard to take,
go off by yourself. Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions:
Wait for hope to appear.
Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face.
The “worst” is never the worst.

(Bible Translation and Location: The Message – Lamentations 3:28-30)

Thoughts:

I believe that we all respond differently to trials, struggles, and life when it seems to be at its toughest crossroads. I also believe that we have become a people who will go insane when faced with total silence! We seem to turn the television on while we work, just for the extra noise. We listen to music to calm us and help us go to sleep. We have music turn on automatically as our daily alarm. Our cars are filled with music or perhaps the spoken Word while we drive to and from work. However, in this scripture, we are told that when life seems to be tough and perhaps even at its worst for us, we need to slip away by ourselves and at some point in that silence bow in prayer before our heavenly Father. Friends, He knows exactly what we are going through and wants very much to help us through our challenging times, but He wants us to initiate the request for help. This teaches us patience, submission, humility and a heart full of respect for the Creator of this earth to care that much about us. I found it interesting that this was not just something that God thought to throw out just for us weaklings, because in the New Testament we are told that Jesus himself went to the garden to pray alone. While He could have easily prayed in the presence of His disciples, He chose to follow the pattern taught in this scripture, He went off into the garden alone to pray. Life was at its toughest for Him, and He followed this direction to give God His undivided, private, and full attention. I can’t be sure about you friend, but with me it seems like I can use this solution at least on a daily basis, due to the stresses, worries and concerns of life today. There is another verse that also comes to mind: Be still and know that I am God. I receive peace and resolve from knowing that God is not only available to me, but is also right beside me ready and willing to help me when I ask because of a need. He just loves me that much! What an awesome God that I serve! Friend, this same God is also available to you. Please consider this, and learn to lean on Him as Your everlasting Father.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank You for reminding me that I don’t need to wait until I have exhausted all personal efforts before coming to You for help and direction. Thank You for being available to Your children at all times. Thank You for reminding me that You needed time with the Father during the tough times of Your life. How much more do I need You in my life today? I have friends who seem to be at wits end with all of their challenges also. Please give us all a yearning for You on a daily basis, so that You might be the first one that we turn to, rather than the last alternative. Thank You Lord for Your faithfulness, love and provisions so that I may live life to its fullest, without stress, and in line with Your perfect will! Bless those that might meditate on these words today, is my humble prayer that I ask in the name of Jesus, my Lord, AMEN!
