Diligently Search and You’ll Find HIM

Imagine losing your most prized possession, and the ensuing search you would initiate in order to find that thing you lost. I believe you would overturn every stone, look behind every possible obstacle, and pray diligently for God to point you in the right direction. Moses gave direction to the Israelites, and I believe that God is doing the same to us, that if we find ourselves abandoning God, we had best awaken our self consciousness and search diligently and with all sincerity for the Master.

DATE WRITTEN: Sunday, 2021-07-18
WRITTEN AT: Van Horn, TX

SCRIPTURE FROM: Deuteronomy 4:29-31
TRANSLATION: The Voice (VOICE)

BIBLE TEXT: 29 But when you’re there, you’ll look for the Eternal your God. If every part of you is invested in the search, heart and soul, then you’ll find Him. 30 When you’re in trouble in those days yet to come because of all these things, you’ll come back to the Eternal your God, and you’ll listen to His voice. 31 He is a compassionate God. He won’t abandon you or destroy you or forget the covenant He made with your ancestors—He swore to them that He’d keep it!

APPLICATION: As a young man who was given the responsibility to take my younger brother out for a walk, I somehow became detached from him and I couldn’t find him. I remember searching every possible place where I thought he would hide, or simple seek out through his curious spirit. There was a fire in my aunt’s backyard, and I remember spending time there praying, because I was sure he must have walked into the fire!! Wow, what if we were desperate enough about finding Jesus? Do you suppose anyone would go to the extent that I did in the search for my brother? Friends, some of you may feel like that’s a far out example, but let me share another story with you. I visited a distant country, and I won’t mention which one, but many of the churches had either closed their doors or they were meeting occasionally with just the few people that may show up. The people had abandoned God to serve other gods – alcohol, sports, hiking, the great outdoors, etc, and because these things brought such joy to them, they saw no need for God or His church. I felt like I was in a land similar to where Moses felt his people would wind up. But friends, you or your relatives may be in a similar situation even in your own country – one that others refer to as a Christian nation. How is that? Unless we turn a blind eye to what is around us folks, we have relatives and friends that don’t have time for God or his church, because of the things they involve themselves in, and many of these things are right in our own neighborhoods. Unless we pray, pray, pray for these loved ones, we could only hope that something will awaken their senses and help them to remember the God who rescued their mom from death due to cancer, or their brother who was saved from a fiery crash because of the prayers of a faithful dad. Friends, I believe that when one is deep into the hold of Satan, much like the Prodigal son was, God will still knock on their heart’s door just loud enough to get their attention. Sometimes, God will place enough evidence in their minds that they will be reminded of the God who loves, cares, heals and saves His children from the pit of Hell into the Kingdom of Heaven. If any reader or listener is in a place where they feel like there is no hope, or that no one loves them, may I suggest that you diligently reach out to Jesus. The Bible says, with everything you have – your heart, soul and mind. Notice the last words of our Scripture today: we are being reminded that God will not break His promise to our ancestors, and that He will hear our cry and save us from our sin and deception. For the one who has a relative in a bad place and you are concerned that they are destined for Hell, let me suggest that you pray diligently for them – in fact, pray with all your heart, soul and mind that God will trigger a thought in their mind, or open their eyes to the love of an all loving God, so that they might seek Him with every bit of diligence possible. If they diligently search for Jesus, they will find Him!

BLESSING(S) NOTED: Jesus never leaves or forsakes us, He is always near when we call on Him. Now if we could only get over ourselves and call on Him!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for the sacrifice You made so that we might have life more abundantly and everlasting in a much better place. Please forgive my readers and I when we are sometimes pulled into the world’s way, and especially for those who struggle to return to ‘the only way’ to heaven. Lord, we each have loved ones and friends who are really struggling, or simply refuse, to see the Light – Your truth, Your light and Your everlasting hope. Please direct them to some source that will help them through their abstinence and stubbornness so that their eyes, their heart and their mind will be redirected to the Savior who loves, adores and is waiting to receive them. Lord, we all need You. Please give us strength to overcome when we fall into Satan’s path, for it’s You that we desire, and strive to live for while here on earth. Be glorified through us oh Lord. AMEN!

Diligent in Prayer

Jesus coached His disciples, and I believe that His plea is just as sincere today for His followers like you and I, to be diligent in our prayer lives, because even though we may feel secure in our commitment to live noble lives before God and to be His witnesses everywhere we go and with whomever we meet, yet we live in this old sinful world that is ruled by the prince of darkness, Satan himself.

Scripture

Bible Reference: Mark 14:38

Bible Text: 38 Stay awake and pray for strength against temptation. Your spirit wants to do what is right, but your body is weak.”

Bible Translation: Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

My Take

Jesus had been around His disciples long enough that He knew their weaknesses, just like He knows yours and mine friend. However, He took a few of His closest disciples with Him to experience His agony; how He dealt with it (through desperate prayer before His Father); and how He wanted His disciples to be persistent in prayer at important times such as this particular time in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus also taught them to be very careful in saying things that they were not prepared to back up through their actions. This was particularly true with Simon Peter who vowed to stick it out with Jesus through good times and bad, yet when asked to keep watch and pray for just one hour, he failed. Friends, when we accept Jesus as Lord; when we are on a high because of a revival in our souls; and when we are around Christian friends, we sometimes feel like we could conquer the world for Jesus, and many times we promise Him to be a very consistent witness before the lost and needy. However, may I encourage you to examine yourself closely for the consistency in which you have lived up to your promises? In the presence of Jesus and the safety of like-minded friends it is easy to feel like, and promise to be the hands and feet of Jesus, but how often do we back down from that when faced with challenging individuals, or when we feel like we are on the’ battlefield’ of life all alone? Jesus coached His disciples, and I believe that His plea is just as sincere today for His followers like you and I, to be diligent in our prayer lives, because even though we may feel secure in our commitment to live noble lives before God and to be His witnesses everywhere we go and with whomever we meet, yet we live in this old sinful world that is ruled by the prince of darkness, Satan himself. Remember, our goal may be to stand firm in our faith, but Satan’s goal is to trip us up at every possible opportunity. So let’s trust God and obey Him when He pleads with us to pray diligently so that we may stand firm against the evil one. Satan is lurking around the corner to get at us, but only if we let him, for greater is He that is in us than he (Satan) that is in the world!

Prayer

Lord Jesus thank You for Your Word, and for Your encouragement and prompting to pray always. I’m sure that each of us face challenging times as we partake in this world in which we live, but as we were reminded in this scripture Lord, please help us to keep our eyes; our hearts and our very beings fixed on You. The source of our strength and the protection that we need from temptation is founded in You Lord. We need You daily to protect us and watch over us so that we may be living testimonies for You Lord. Please keep Your hand upon us today, so that as we go, our friends will witness the love of God in every way, and desire more and more to want to know You as their Savior. I ask these things in the name of the true and living Savior, Jesus Christ. AMEN!

Think About Your Life Work

Our challenge is: Children, don’t drag your feet in this! God has chosen you to take your place before him to serve in ___________________ – this is your life work; make sure you do it and do it well.”

SCRIPTURE  FROM:   2 Chronicles 29:11 (MSG)

TEXT:  Children, don’t drag your feet in this! God has chosen you to take your place before him to serve in conducting and leading worship—this is your life work; make sure you do it and do it well.

OBSERVATION:   Our challenge is: Children, don’t drag your feet in this! God has chosen you to take your place before him to serve in ___________________ – this is your life work; make sure you do it and do it well.”

APPLICATION:   Friends, I believe that God has a work for each of us to do, so I would encourage you to fill in the blank above, then repeat that verse as many times as you care to, so that God’s message might get through to each of us today, that He has a work for us to do, and He wants us to consider it a life work, because He wants to see us commit to doing it well! I’ve heard friends say: but I’m not a preacher; and – but I can’t stand in front of people and teach; and – but I can’t even pray in public; and – but the preacher will have to talk to them about salvation, because I’m not intelligent enough to do that. Now I realize that there is a comeback for each of these excuses, but I will only encourage you today to simply tell your story. If God leads someone to you, then I believe that He obviously has a plan for you to share something about your faith with them, so that He might be glorified. Think about this: if God leads someone to you and you tell them that you really can’t share with them the secret of God’s grace, or how He saved you, they may wonder if what you think you have is real. Ask any of us if we are married, when we got married, where we got married and how long we’ve been married, and most spouses could respond in a heartbeat. But we can’t answer the same questions about our relationship with the Savior of the world? May I dare say that your latter relationship must either be a farce, or you are a puppet who simply did something or said words dictated to you, or you receive no nourishment and/or companionship from the relationship? Friends, your testimony/story should include what your life was like before Jesus; How you met Jesus; and what your life has been like after accepting Jesus. If you then invite your friend who is asking to know this Savior of yours, then you have just done the equivalent of what pastors do week after week in our pulpits. I believe you can share your story, if you want to and if there is a story to tell. Please don’t talk yourself into being a Christian because of peer pressure or any outside influence, as that will create false hope. There is only one way – invite the Lord Jesus to forgive you of your sin and become Lord and Master of your life, through your faith in this simple act. You will grow in your faith through studying the Word of God, so that He could speak to you; have an active prayer life, so that you could speak to God; and fellowship with other believers (most believers do this through obeying God’s Word – where He tells us to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together). In doing the latter we grow from each other and remind each other of the wonderful works of our awesome God! Friends, God has placed us here on earth to complete His work for His glory. This is our life work that he expects us to do for His glory until the very end. Let’s do it well!

PRAYER:   Lord, thank You for blessing Your children beyond anything that we could wish or ask for, beginning with Salvation itself. Help us to activate the love you have instilled in us, and be willing to share the many blessings that You have given to us. Lord, if you see fit to bless us in return, like you promised to the sons of Hezekiah, then we will be forever thankful, but please help us to bless others, and be diligent about our life work. AMEN!
