I hope you’ve taken a moment to read the verses referenced above, as they’ll help you better grasp the context of this devotional.
Our ongoing reflection on the past parallels the journey of Peter, as we often look back on our ancestors’ achievements and our own life experiences with a sense of satisfaction. Peter, however, encouraged his audience—an encouragement that, by its inclusion in the Bible, is also meant for us—to let these memories inspire purpose and determination moving forward. While Peter did not discourage thoughtful consideration of our heritage, he prompted believers to allow such reflection to energize their commitment and resolve, guided now by the mindset of Christ. This approach ensures that present actions may likewise inspire coming generations.

Although we cannot change what our ancestors have done, we can draw from their strengths, wisdom and resolve and strive to avoid repeating their evident missteps. Each day offers an opportunity to shape a legacy that others may study, critique, and perhaps emulate. Reflecting on my youth, I often believed that my modern perspectives surpassed those of my parents. Yet, over time, their wisdom and experience demonstrated more reliable and trustworthy paths forward. Nothing beats experience and the guidance of Almighty God. Observing younger generations today, I hope they will make informed, mature decisions—taking into account not only new ideas but also the lessons imparted by us and prior generations.

Jesus’ message through Peter challenges believers to keep in mind the promise of His return, recognizing that our present conduct and life-decisions regarding salvation can influence this future encounter. Our daily choices may lead to commendation or questioning, acceptance or rejection into heaven. I believe that how we have stewarded the gifts bestowed upon us will be of particular interest to the Master. The impact we make may bring others to Christ or, regrettably, serve as a deterrent—something to be taken seriously.

Verse 16 teaches us to pursue holiness, just as Christ is holy. While Jesus’ divinity sets Him apart, Scripture affirms that believers are empowered by the One living within them—greater than any earthly power. Ultimately, it is a personal choice: whom will you choose to emulate today? Does your life reflect readiness to meet Christ and encourage others to seek Him as well? If not, consider inviting Christ into your life, allowing Him to guide your actions for the benefit of the Kingdom.

PRAYER
Precious Lord Jesus, thank You for blessing us with a place to live, friends to encourage us, and a church family to love on us and encourage our walk with You. It seems natural for us to reflect on our ancestors and our past, but I am thankful for Your Word today that encourages us to look forward to a very special day when You call us (believers) home to glory. Please help us to fix our eyes, our heart and our mind on what lies ahead for us. You went to the extreme in showing such love through Your sacrifice on Calvary and still went even further to prepare a home for us, that where You are, we may be also. Oh, what a glorious thought to one day be with our Savior, Lord and Master forever in heaven – Your perfect place/eternal home with the father. Please help us to live life here with our prospects of heaven at the forefront of our minds, so that others could see, experience our joy, and look forward to being with You also! AMEN

Overcoming Doubt with Faith in God and His Word

I hope you’ve taken a moment to read the verses referenced above, as they’ll help you better grasp the context of this devotional.

When it seems like the bottom has fallen out, and all hope is lost, regarding the things that When life feels like it’s falling apart and the things that once gave you hope seem lost, it’s natural to question if they were ever real. For instance, you might believe you have the perfect child, until they make a mistake. Society turns against them, and people look down on you. You may feel blessed with good health until you find yourself in the hospital struggling to breathe and wondering if you’ll make it. You could praise your church and its pastor, only to feel disheartened when the pastor moves on and you fear the church will crumble. These experiences and others can lead to doubts and make you question the hope you believed was within reach. In today’s Scripture reading, we see the unsaved people of Israel and Judah drawing similar negative conclusions after witnessing their nation being handed over to Babylon for discipline and correction.

Yet, Bible scholars remind us there are over 5,000 promises in the Bible. It can be tough to look beyond our struggles and recognize the promises God given for our encouragement and hope. For those with weak faith or no faith at all, it’s easy to dismiss these promises as fantasies destined to remain unfulfilled, just as they might have predicted from the beginning. So, the question we must consider in today’s devotional is: Can we trust God’s Word? To address our doubts, we should let God’s Word speak for itself. Reflect on these promises:

  1. God promised to choose one of David’s descendants to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, a prophecy fulfilled through the miraculous birth, life, and kingship of Jesus Christ (vs 26).
  2. He also vowed to show mercy to His people and make them prosperous again, a promise seen fulfilled in Ezra 1.
  3. In Mark 5, a desperate community leader, likely once skeptical of Jesus’ power, turned to Him when his daughter was gravely ill. Witnessing Jesus’ miraculous ability, he sought help as a last resort. Much like God’s promise to restore and prosper His chosen people, Jesus restored the child’s life, making her whole and successful again.

We all know where we stand in response to today’s lesson. Some may feel bitter towards God for not answering their prayers in the way they wanted, while others may feel at peace, reassured by the truth of God’s promises and trusting Him completely to fulfill them. Take a moment to help, encourage, or pray for those who feel abandoned by God or struggle to accept His eternal promises. In verse 20, God assures us that He is as committed to fulfilling His promises as He is to upholding the separation of night and day. Our God cannot lie, so trust Him with all your heart and avoid relying on your own understanding. His promises are true, and His will is perfect in every way. Believe in Him for salvation and trust Him in every aspect of life!

PRAYER
Thank You, Jesus, for the countless promises recorded in Your Word and the many more You have reassured us personally with. Once again, I reflect on the thought, ‘Who am I that a King would die, live for me, and make promises for my encouragement and hope?’ Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder; consider all… How great Thou art! Praise You Father God that You didn’t settle for the doubt spread by the Israelites who questioned Your discipline, but instead, You reaffirmed Your promise to restore Your people and lead them to success. Often, when things don’t go as we wish, we feel forgotten, Lord, so I thank You for this encouragement today. Help us stay faithful to Your Word and constantly remember Your promises for us. May You always be Lord over all, even in our darkest moments. Praise to our ever-living, ever-loving God—we have hope! AMEN!

God Enjoys Doing Good For His Righteous Children

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
I hope you’ve taken a moment to read the verses referenced earlier, as they’ll help you better grasp the context of this devotional. Despite its title, the Scripture begins with God explaining how He disciplines His children when they disobey and reject His commands. God wanted Jeremiah to understand that his fears of his country’s destruction were part of a greater plan to draw His people closer to Him and give them a clearer vision of His love and desire to bless them. I especially appreciate the ‘BUT’ in verse 36 because it reveals that God wasn’t finished with the Israelites—He had a greater plan for them beyond their discipline.

This isn’t just a story from centuries ago. Many nations today have strayed far from God and the principles He gave us in His Word. This isn’t exclusive to unbelievers; even Christians have become lukewarm, as I was reminded during a sermon last Sunday. We’ve grown too comfortable adopting worldly standards instead of following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. Most of us are likely aware of the ways we’ve been lukewarm. For instance, some regular churchgoers changed their habits during COVID, and even now, they continue to stay home, watching services on TV while reclining with their devices. We might call that “going to church,” but the Bible encourages assembling together with like-minded believers. While I’m not a Bible scholar, I struggle to see how we can truly connect with our Christian neighbors, understand their challenges, and share the joys we’ve experienced in the Word throughout the week if we simply turn on the TV and half-heartedly listen to the Word of God being taught. While I know you’ll be grateful I’m not your judge, I want to emphasize that our eternal Judge knows every tiny detail about us—our deepest thoughts, intentions, and mindset toward Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. What we take in will ultimately come out. If the love, teachings, and presence of Jesus fill your soul during the week, I believe you’d naturally want to celebrate that with God and your fellow believers in corporate worship. Ultimately, you’ll answer for this before our all-knowing God.

Verse 41 stood out to me in the Scriptures today, reminding me that the God I adore said He will delight in doing good for His people who are called by His name! Maybe you feel indifferent, but I often think I call on God so much that I might be annoying Him. Yet, that’s not what the Bible says. In verse 41, He declares, “I will enjoy doing good to them. And with my whole being I will surely plant them in this land and make them grow.” Wow! The very thing the Israelites might have thought God despised—the reason He was sending them away—He instead says He will take joy in blessing them. Only a God like this can truly teach us about righteousness, forgiveness, and obedience, for no one else has such a heart.

PRAYER
Not many of us openly admit to loving discipline, Lord, but we all desire to walk in Your perfect way and let Your blessings flow to those we meet. Throughout biblical accounts, it’s evident that Your deep love for Your people led You to discipline them when they strayed. Yet today, we often mistake it as being forgotten or unheard by our Master and Lord. Please forgive us, Lord, for our impatience and doubt in believing You always work for our good. Discipline now brings joy in Your presence with a clear conscience later. We long to obey Your Word, follow Your teachings, and live by the example You set for us. We want to do what’s right, and while we know Satan’s power is no match for us, we are confident that You hold the power over all creation. Humble us to accept You as our Guide, Deliverer, Sustainer, Healer, and soon-coming King, and to share this joy with everyone we meet! AMEN!

The Purity of Faith: Trials and Triumphs for Believers

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
There may be multiple misconceptions out there about Christians and their safety, security, joy, and total exemption from the evils of this wicked world and its leader, Satan. However, after you read today’s Scripture verses, you might be confused, because under the inspiration of the holy Spirit, Peter is telling us that testing, and trials, will continue while we remain here on earth.
So, we should look at this, in hopes of better understanding why God would expose even His own children to such earthly heartaches and stress. After all, God is known as our Father of love, care, and protection. Our Father for all eternity. The Bible use gold as a comparison. Probably the most precious metal, yet it is placed through fire and pounded to prove its purity and genuine aspects. We must always remember, when we place our trust in Jesus Christ, we are saved for eternity. Our Heavenly Father watches out for His own and we could got to bed in peace knowing that we are His, and He is ours. We can awake each morning with great assuredness, knowing that our time in God’s Word will reaffirm the greatness of our Father, who will be leading us through every circumstance of life that day. Fellow believers, remember, our faith, protection and overlook are anchored in the powerful hands of the Creator of this universe today! While still here in this world, we are not exempt from trials and temptations. In fact, these may become more intense as the world places us in the fire to prove our commitment to our Lord. Some may very well pound on us to test God in protecting His dear children.
I sincerely believe that today’s Scripture encourages us to embrace true faith in Jesus Christ. Some turn to Him for the promise of Heaven, while others see Him as a backup for life’s toughest moments. However, those who fully surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ find peace in knowing that God equips them to live according to His guidance, through studying His Word, praying regularly, and entrusting every aspect of life to Him. Surrendering to Jesus means giving Him control over your decisions, direction, and worries. Holding onto even a small part of these means you haven’t fully surrendered. Each evening, reflect on your day and compare it to gold—just as gold is tested and proven genuine, can God see your life as genuine at the end of the day? In verse 9, Peter reassures us that enduring the trials of life leads to true salvation, showing the world who we belong to.

PRAYER
Lord, I thank You this morning for the reassurance of knowing You as my Lord and Savior! Life on earth often feels filled with endless trials and challenges, but through the Holy Spirit, I am reminded of who is in control of my life, watching over me and guiding my steps in every situation. You understand our doubts and how we falter under Satan’s attacks and influences. Lord, my fellow believers and I need You every moment. With empty hands, we come before You, asking to be filled with Your everlasting goodness. Reassure us constantly of Your wisdom, presence, and unending love. As You bless us, may we also share Your grace with others who are in need of a Savior today. AMEN!

Share Your Encounter with Jesus: Devotional Insights

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
No matter where we are in life, which church we attend, which Bible version we prefer, or our current perspective on life, there will come a moment when we must confront the challenge of hearing God’s voice and deciding how to respond. This devotional might offer another chance to hear from God, just as the Samaritans did in our Scripture verses. First, let me remind those who have never committed their lives to Jesus Christ. You may have built your life around the ways of this world and its distractions. If you ever feel drawn to learn about Jesus or wonder about His life and teachings, know that this is the Holy Spirit working to draw you out of the world’s ways and into a relationship with Jesus. The world, influenced by Satan, resists the Holy Son of God. If you find yourself being drawn to Jesus, it’s beyond anything your family or friends could orchestrate; it’s the power of God or the Holy Spirit stirring within you. As an unbeliever, this might feel completely unfamiliar due to a lack of experience with God’s Word and ways. Trust that only the Holy Spirit has the power to reach a heart indifferent to Jesus. In today’s Scripture, we see a neighbor who simply returned to her town and shared the love and power of the One who knew everything about her and offered her a new and fulfilling life. How do your encounters with Jesus impact you? Is your life transformed enough by your devotional time with the Lord or church attendance that others see His love shining through your words and actions? Do your neighbors know you are walking with Jesus and want them to do the same? Notice that the Samaritan Woman didn’t run to her neighbors with a big Bible, preaching at them. She simply wanted them to meet the amazing man she encountered, telling them how He reminded her of the Son of God. Many pastors deliver sophisticated sermons that can sometimes challenge our attention spans in church. However, a few heartfelt words from one neighbor to another often capture attentive ears. And if you pray before sharing, your words might touch open hearts eager to know the Jesus you’ve met and are so excited to talk about. The woman’s message was simple and direct. She shared her story, they followed her, listened for themselves, and believed. While I hope your pastor is truly God-ordained, dedicated to winning souls and guiding believers, nothing can replace the love you show by sharing your story with those around you. Let them know how Jesus saved you – and how He can save them too.

PRAYER
Thank You, Jesus, for the blessing of friends and the opportunities You give us to share our likes, dislikes, wants, needs, and opinions with them. Often, they trust us enough to adopt our good ideas. I believe they would quickly act if I warned them about a storm approaching, and just like the Samaritan Woman in today’s story, I believe they would also want to come and meet the Savior I have encountered. Jesus, I pray to overcome fears of rejection or doubts about not having the right Bible references, and instead, like the Samaritan, share my encounter with the King of kings and the immense blessings of accepting You as Lord and Savior. Help me to keep my testimony personal and honest. You are exactly who You say You are, so there’s no need for me to add anything to Your Word; please guard me against that temptation when convincing others. In today’s story, the people saw You, heard You, and believed. It’s all about You, Lord! Just as You’ve transformed my life for Your glory, I am confident You can do the same for those I care about and witness to. Be glorified in everything I strive to do in Your name, Lord! I sincerely pray that readers will also want and commit to doing the same AMEN!

The Promise of Restoration: Insights from Jeremiah’s Message

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
I hope you have taken a moment to read the Scripture I referenced above, so that my thoughts here will make more sense to you. Jeremiah was used by God to warn the Israelites about the discipline that would come to them. However, as we see in these verses today, he also had a message of great hope for them. This is also the situation today for those who disobey God. He will discipline us and get our attention to turn from our wicked ways, but in the book of Revelation, there is amazing hope for all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In the chapters leading up to this one, we learned how, because of their great sin, God chose to discipline His children – His chosen people, in a way that seems extremely harsh to many. However, for those of us who have been around long enough, we know that it sometimes takes harsh discipline to truly get our attention and make it stick. But in today’s lesson, it is so rewarding to reflect on the outcome of that discipline. For in every discipline, we have a choice of returning to our same old sin, or to show that we learned a valuable lesson and are willing to do it right post-discipline. It is always easier to handle discipline when we have our eyes and hearts set on the hope that lies ahead, and I believe that God did just that for His people in this Scripture today.

Think seriously and deeply about this, friends. Assume for a moment that your nation is constantly struggling to fight off evil and the threat of war from an enemy nation. Now assume that your nation has been so unfaithful to God that He has demanded that your whole nation become subjects of that enemy nation. Wouldn’t you feel like the bottom just dropped out of your whole life and that there is absolutely no hope for any future worth living for? Can’t you imagine how the Israelites must have felt in being ruled by the Babylonians? BUT, in today’s Scripture, we are reminded that God will take care of His own and that He would never put more on us than we could handle. Yes, He did what He had to do in disciplining His children when all else failed to get their attention, but He also knew that He would one day bring them back home to where His glory would once again be displayed!

Unfortunately, this is very similar to our situation today. In His Word, God also offers us a ‘Promised Land’, one filled with the joys of Heaven in the presence of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one where there are streets of pure gold! Unfortunately, many in each of our countries have deliberately conceded to Satan instead. We have assumed a lifestyle that often is a mockery in the eyes of God. In many areas of life today, it is often challenging to discern the difference between a child of the Great High, and one who has chosen to do life their own way – the way of the world. Some might say that they are waiting until the end of life, as we know it here on earth, to surrender to the lordship of Jesus Christ. When might that be, dear friends? Children, teenagers, middle-agers, and seniors are dying unexpectedly for various reasons today, and the same could very likely happen to you, my appreciated reader.

In the New Testament, God offered us a New Covenant in the person of Jesus Christ. In this Covenant, we are told that we have a way out of this unrighteousness that we find ourselves in, but only those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will be saved. In other words, those who have not taken that step belong to Satan and will be given over to Hell for all eternity. If you were to tell your relatives right now where they will find you when you die, will it be Heaven or Hell? Only you can make that change, for you must surrender to Jesus for yourself. No proxies are allowed, for there is no provision for that in God’s Word. I’m ready to go home to my Father in Heaven, my good friends, and I sure hope that I will see you at the foot of Jesus worshipping Him with me. PRAYER
Lord Jesus, Your love is expressed throughout Your Word, and I was reminded of that as I meditated on today’s verses. Thank You for the reassurance of the hope that lies ahead for other believers and me. This also puts me on notice that my unsaved loved ones and friends are destined for a place quite contrary to the joys I long for in Heaven. Please, Lord, melt the hearts of those I love and others who need You today. Draw them to Yourself and convict them of their sinful state, so that they might surrender to You in faith. I believe, oh Lord, please help those who don’t, for the end of life here on earth is drawing near, according to Your Word. AMEN

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
As I worked through this chapter in Jeremiah, I couldn’t help but imagine how modern nations—and individual people—would react if they heard a message this confrontational straight from the Lord. Honestly, in many places I suspect crowds would riot or even go to war, even if the messenger made it crystal-clear, as Jeremiah did, that the warning came directly from God.

Yes, the tone is severe. Yet woven through the prophecy is God’s unmistakable mercy: He promises restoration for Israel after their brutal years in Babylon. It reminds me of how quickly people today turn away from God—how many friends or relatives refuse church because “God took their daughter,” or “He didn’t protect their son in combat,” or because they’ve been hurt by hypocritical Christians.

We were created to worship our magnificent God, but that calling is often the last thing on our minds. God’s design was for us to love Him, to walk with Him, to mirror His character. Instead, we bend Scripture to fit our own standards, and the result is everywhere: hatred, prejudice, corrupt lifestyles, and outright rejection of the One who formed us.

Picture a child defiantly dishonoring a devoted father—most of us would’ve faced a severe “trip to the woodshed” for that. Yet our heavenly Father, who sees every harsh, deceitful impulse in us, still chose to sacrifice His Son so we could be forgiven. His love never wavers!

But love doesn’t erase standards. Jesus declared, “Whoever believes in Him will have eternal life” (John 3:16). Genuine belief shows up as obedience—aligning our choices with His Word, following Christ’s example, letting Scripture separate right from wrong. Those who refuse that gift will not enter Heaven; hell is the only alternative.

God told Jeremiah He would punish everyone who harmed His people. I’m convinced He hasn’t changed. He still defends those who belong to Him and will deal with anyone who trips them up on their way to His Kingdom. So, dear reader, trust the Lord Jesus Christ and be rescued from judgment. Love Him, honor Him, obey Him—and urge others to do the same. The reward God has prepared is literally out of this world.

PRAYER
How wonderful it is to be loved by You, precious Lord! How awesome it is to read about Your passion towards Your created ones, yet You still saw fit to give us the choice of where we would spend eternity. Although this seems like an easy choice for everyone, yet we know that some live each day here on earth with a very stubborn and selfish streak that causes them to reject Jesus, our only Savior. Please Lord Jesus, have mercy on us and hear our cries as we petition You for our loved ones. Please help us to never settle for me, myself and I, but to always seek Your help to encourage those we love, to also love the God we love. I believe that it is clear to see the heart that You have for Your people, and how You will go to all extremes to protect, love and cherish us until the day You call us out of this sinful world. Knowing You, and enjoying that peace of our eternal destiny, helps us through each day. Thank You Jesus for loving me! AMEN!

Understanding Death and Faith: A Scriptural Approach

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
For many of you that will read this devotional today, you probably praise God each morning for His new mercies that allowed you to see another day, and although you may also praise Him during the day, hopefully at the end of each day you celebrate in thanksgiving for the day He has blessed you with. Similarly, in our Scripture today, Solomon also considers this. It seems like he took into account the many principles, lifestyles, and righteousness of all who would offer up similar prayers to what you may do each day. After all, there is only ONE God to whom we pray. But the other thing that Solomon took into consideration is that no matter what each of our lives look like here on earth, there is something in our future that we hold in common at the end of our lives here on earth – death. Something that many of us try to avoid thinking about due to its finality in what we know today as, life here on earth. I’ve heard preachers refer to ‘everyone being on equal footing at the foot of the cross’, and there is so much truth in that. Also, I’ve heard reminders from preachers about how we all, individually, must settle things with our Creator, as no one qualifies for heaven because of the goodness of our ancestors, or the position we may hold in society while we’re alive, or the good things we may have done for others and the church while alive, and I also give a 5-star award to those preachers. BUT, does it not seem like Solomon is short-sighted in not reminding us of what Jesus taught in the New Testament? In (John 11:26), Jesus said, “He who lives and believes in Me shall never die”. You can escape death by living and believing in Jesus Christ. But the human mind, human wisdom won’t bring you to that. If you’re only coming at life from the human level and trying to find God from the human level, you’ll never make it. God must reveal Himself to you by His Spirit. But God has also revealed Himself through His Word, where He revealed, “And this is the record, that God has given to us – eternal life and this life is in the Son, and he who has the Son has life” (I John 5:11-12).” He that lives and believes in Me, Jesus said, “will never die.” So, as we conclude today’s teaching, let us note that although death may be a marker in our lifespan, it is not final. For the believer in Jesus Christ, it marks the end to life on earth and the beginning of life in heaven with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for all eternity! For those who have chosen to reject the Lord Jesus Christ, death marks the end of life here on earth, and the beginning of an even worse existence in Hell with your chosen ruler, Satan. The choice is yours dear friends, but it seems like a non-issue to me. Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved (Acts 16:31)

PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of eternal life to those who place their faith and trust in the Son of God, Jesus Christ! Thank You also for the reminder today that although death is a marker in everyone’s existence here on earth, yet for the believer it is a time of celebration of even better things to come – eternity in heaven with our Father, His Son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The more frustrated we become here on earth, the more excited we become of our future prospects! Thank You for incenting Your servant Solomon to remind us that our position in society, or our status among all classes of people – rich or poor, that a day will come when we pass on from this world onto our eternal destination that resulted from our earthly spiritual decisions. My sincere prayer is that every reader of this devotional will ensure that their eternity is secure in knowing Jesus as their personal Savior, to guarantee that they are heaven bound. For those who have rejected You, please Lord, speak persistently to them about the time in which they live and the opportunity they have to change the course of their destiny. With thankful hearts, we rejoice in Jesus our Savior and Lord. AMEN!

Overcoming Life’s Trials Through Prayer

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
It seems like troubles abound in the lives of our friends, family, and yes, even in our own lives as well. It seems extremely frustrating at times, for just when we thought we have heard of the greatest challenge a person could possibly reach; a friend will approach us with a challenge unlike any other we may have heard before. Of course, if we listen to the media, we will possibly hear THE worst, but media hype seems unreal at times! As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, whom the Bible assures us never faces something that surprises Him, we must rest assured that All Things are possible with God. Unfortunately, many times I believe we enjoy sharing the challenging times with friends, for it really produces shockingly interesting conversations as we watch for their mouth to open wide and jaws drop to all-time lows! Thankfully, I believe that believers often possess such confidence in the power of God that we naturally alleviate the frustrations and disappointments of those with no hope, for we know a Man who can, as referenced in the old gospel song. Friends, we know the Creator of this world and of all mankind. We know the Healer of all diseases affecting His created ones, for the Bible tells us of the lame man who walked again, the ruler’s son whom the people had declared dead, yet Jesus raised him up, and the leper whose skin became perfectly pure with just one touch of the Master. But in our focal verses today, James, a servant of Jesus Christ, reminds us through several points and their corresponding answers, to help us face the uncertainties of life. Let me spell them out again, with hopes that these things will stick with us, especially when trouble comes:

  • Are you suffering hardships? You should pray.
  • Are you happy? You should sing praises. 
  • Are you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

Verses 16 thru 18 goes on to remind us of a few other tips that will help us decide to step out in faith:

  • Share with believers, what may seem like, the ugly sin, or faults, that you feel guilty of. For this brings healing to your burdened soul!
  • Pray for one another, especially those who are struggling with the challenges of sin and life as a whole. For this produces wonderful results!
  • Think on past answers to prayer, where God showed His power and grace to His children, such as the example James offered about Elijah and his prayer for the rain to stop and start back up again. This helps to instill confidence in following the commands of God, even in challenging times. Start by first reflecting on past answers to your prayers – even the small ones, for this will remind you that if God did it before, we know He is quite capable of doing it again!

For the unbeliever, God wants you to listen and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit as He calls you to repentance. As an unbeliever, you can try to follow all of the above, but it will be superficial, unless you know the One to whom you are praying. Know Jesus today and know that peace of which I have explained above. However, for the fellow believer reading this devotional today, I trust that this devotional will serve as a reminder that there is great power in knowing Jesus Christ, and believing that He loves and cares for you, especially in those areas of life where you may question if you could possibly overcome the tactics of Satan. As for Your Lord, please consider allowing Him to have His will and way in your life and in all of life’s circumstances. He will never lead you astray, but rather in the center of His will for you. As you study His Word you will find the peace of God and be led by the Holy Spirit to all truth and the perfect will of God.

PRAYER
Lord, thank You for saving my soul and leaving me here on earth to share that miracle with others in search of hope and a future for eternity. Thank You also for Your servant, James, and for him sharing the wisdom needed for us to best look at challenging circumstances and to help others who may call on us for that kind of wisdom. Lord, I pray that we will be faithful and dedicated to You in all areas of life here on earth, for as we display our confidence in You, I pray that it will serve to lift others up and draw them to the foot of the cross to seek salvation in You alone. For the unbeliever who may happen upon this devotional, I pray that they may be drawn to You and develop a desire to know You personally. Please encourage fellow believers to look to You for all things we face every day and help us to gain strength through Your Word as we meditate on it. You deserve our praise, honor and worship. Be lifted up because we are fixing our eyes on things eternal and the only One who can open the doors of heaven for our journey. You are lord, and we seek Your face, oh Lord. AMEN!

Embracing Love: Lessons from the Samaritan Woman

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
For some background leading up to these particular verses, we must be reminded that Jesus was on an uncommon path to Jerusalem, by way of Samaria. This was a path not usually traveled by the Jews, for they made it a point to stay clear of the Samaritans, whom they distained and whom they felt were illegitimate and extremely distasteful to be around. So I believe that the first key point in our lesson today is to remember that prejudice and hatred for any particular sect of people is a mankind thing, as God made us all, sent His Son for all who would believe on Him, and Jesus died and rose again so that all of God’s children who come to Him (believe on Him and surrender themselves to the lordship of Jesus Christ) will be saved. Friends, I am convinced that Jesus was as comfortable with this Samaritan woman as He would have been with any king or queen from a Jewish nation. I also believe that Jesus wants to have fellowship with you and me because He created us and loves us beyond anything we could imagine. Yes, we have sinned, and yes, we have disregarded the commands of our Master in His Word, but praise God He has not turned His back on us nor joined with others who despise us because of our financial position, our ancestry, or our place in the palace of an earthly leader. Another important note for us to think about is that the Samaritan Woman seems to have conceded to the offer by Jesus for the life-giving water that only He could provide, as to say that if only I could partake of this water You offered, then perhaps I would be able to…… Is that the sort of deal we try to make when parents or close friends are trying to convince us of our need for salvation? Jesus, ‘save me’ and then perhaps these people will get off my back and leave me alone, or ‘save me’ and I will then connect with a much better crowd that I am currently involved in? You know, I come from an area that was bombarded with the threat, and often the damages, of hurricanes each year. The weather man would tell us to prepare, for a hurricane is eminent at our location over the next few days. We didn’t look to find a better deal, or something more fun to do, we started securing our homes, boats and vehicles for the onslaught of a hurricane. Why then do we not listen and adhere to God’s warnings in His Word? Like the weatherman I mentioned above, God loves us enough that He wants us to be prepared for the day that He will call us out of this world. He wants us to be ready for eternity in Heaven, rather than accepting the damnation of Hell. I wonder, have you been obedient to the call of God? If not, I encourage you to read my Footnote carefully and accept my tips on meeting my Savior and Lord. For He desires relationship with you, my friend! The Bible tells us that a home has been prepared in Heaven for those who accept Jesus as their Lord. He has prepared for your arrival my friend. Please don’t disappoint Him.

PRAYER
Lord I am so humbled by Your expression of love for this Samaritan woman that so many of Your own countrymen went to extremes to avoid contact with, because they had placed her in a box – one filled with rejects that they thought could never be worthy of You and Your love. Oh Lord, You chose to do the same for me as You did for that woman, in spite of my unworthiness, yet You loved me and chose me to live with You in Heaven throughout all eternity. But Lord, I’m afraid that we have yet to learn a lesson from Your display of mercy and love for the Samaritan woman, for we still turn up our noses at those who are different than us. We jump to our own conclusions based on our worldly rules of likes and dislikes, but seldom does that ever equal what You have demonstrated and taught us throughout Your Word. Please forgive us Lord, and help us to love like You love us, and help us to always consider others thru eyes of mercy and humbleness of our heart and soul. May it always be obvious that we love others as an expression of the love You demonstrated to us. AMEN!
