Scripture: Deuteronomy 34; Joshua 1.  

OBSERVATION
(What is God saying here?)

Joshua 1:8-9 (NLT)

8 Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. 9 This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

APPLICATION
(How Can I apply what God is saying here to my circumstances today?)

I believe that if we read just these verses we would deduce that this is referring to God’s Holy Book, the Bible as we know it today. I believe that we would be right on, because it appears that God was saying to Joshua that he needed to follow every word taught to him by Moses and to follow God’s book of instruction. Bottom line is that I believe that reading God’s Word and following its instruction is the only way for us know with confidence that God is with us wherever we go, and for us to:

1. Prosper in all we do – even among a greedy and crooked people that we deal with and live amongst here on this earth;
   
2. Succeed in all we do – even when others will seek to fight us every step of the way when they feel like their success or livelihood is threatened;
   
3. Be strong – even when we feel like the world is against us and the odds are so overpowering;
   
4. Be courageous – especially when we feel like we could never win the battles of wickedness, health issues, evil ones, selfish ones of others that could and will oppose us;
   
5. Not be afraid – especially when we feel alone and not a part of the popular group, or when it seems like this old world is crashing in on us;
   
6. Not be discouraged – for God is with us through those times that we feel victorious and especially those times when we place our total faith and trust in Him to see us through circumstances for which we feel so inadequate.
   

The last sentence gives us assurance that for those who follow the commands of our Father, He will be with us wherever we go! Praise be to God for that assurance!

PRAYER
(With God’s help, what am I going to do differently today because He said it?)

Father God, thank You for giving us Your Book of Instructions that teaches us about holiness, right living, right relationships and unconditional love. How comforting it is to know that You will be with me wherever I go, if I follow Your commands. Please continue to give me guidance, courage and strength every day to follow You in all that I do and say. May You rule over all that I am so that I may be the very best that You intended me to be for You.
