Disciplined and Successful Lives

Scripture: Proverbs 11.

(What is God saying here?)

Proverbs 11:17-21 (NLT)

17 Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.

18 Evil people get rich for the moment, but the reward of the godly will last.

19 Godly people find life; evil people find death.

20 The LORD detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.

21 Evil people will surely be punished, but the children of the godly will go free.

(How Can I apply what God is saying here to my circumstances today?)

In Proverbs 1:2-7 let me draw your attention to the purpose of the Proverbs. With that in mind I want to draw your attention to the wisdom in the chosen verses today:

Children of God

The Ungodly

Your kindness will be rewarded

Your cruelty will destroy you

Your rewards will last forever

You may get rich, but only for a moment

You will find life (and life more abundantly and full)

You will find death (un-fulfillment, or death, here on earth and eternal death)

God delights in your integrity

God detests your crooked hearts

You will go free because of your faithfulness and God-honoring acts here on earth

You will be punished

Friends, you will note that I adlibbed some in parenthesis, based on other sections of God’s Word, but the rest of my input above came straight from the passage. I believe that God inspired the words of Solomon so that His followers today may be enriched, and fore-warned with the wisdom of what will result from our actions today. If, as a child of God, you find that some of the characteristics in the right column may still exist in your life, then I would urge you to grow in the wisdom of what God is saying to you through this passage, and turn from your wicked ways, grow in God’s favor by living your life in conformance with His Word. In
Proverbs 1:3
we are told that the purpose of the Proverbs is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair.

(With God’s help, what am I going to do differently today because He said it?)

Father, I pray that all who may read this devotion today will join with me in a desire to live disciplined and successful lives and to always be looking for what is right and just and fair. I believe that in following this guideline, we will be more apt to listen to Your voice, follow Your commands, and live holy and righteous lives that You would honor and be proud of. Please give us Your peace, wisdom and boldness to live our lives modeled after Yours.
