Protection Against Denial of Jesus?

Scripture: Mark 14.

(Key verses)

Mark 14:29-31 (NLT)

29 Peter said to him, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I never will.”

30 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny three times that you even know me.”

31 “No!” Peter declared emphatically. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!” And all the others vowed the same.

(How Can I apply what God is saying here to my life today?)

Peter was one of Jesus’ disciples that was closest to Him, yet when placed under pressure he buckled and did exactly what he promised Jesus he would never do. Peter was placed under pressure, and very close scrutiny, because Peter knew that if the authorities confirmed that he was closely associated with Jesus and His ministry, that they may very well do the same thing to him as they were doing to Jesus. We may never be placed under that kind of scrutiny, but we must be prepared for that kind of scrutiny. There will be times that friends may ask us in a crowd what our stance is on Christianity, or whether we are a Jesus follower, or why don’t we join them for some worldly fun that we know would be a bad reflection on our witness. In fact friends, today could very easily be one of those days when we may have to take a stand for our Lord. This is easy to do in church, or amongst other Christian friends, but are you strong enough and bold enough to take that stand before a group of jeering friends who are looking to see us fail in our pious thinking or our supposed stand for Christ? Are you prayed up and ready to take a stand for our Lord?

(What I will ask of God, in order for me to properly apply His Word to my life)

Lord Jesus, You have given us confidence to serve You and take a stand for you, but way too often we silence our lips because we don’t want to stand out in the crowd. We just want to melt away in the crowd and not be noticed. I believe that taking a stand for You may convince the doubting and the unbeliever that we really are who we say we are – born again Christians. Please give me that boldness and courage today to take a stand for You. Please give me strength to truly stand firm for what I believe so that I may be the witness to my co-workers and friends that they expect and need in order to convince them that I am real in my faith. May You shine through in every moment of my life today is my humble prayer and plea. Please touch the lives of my Christian brothers and sisters who also claim You as Lord.
