TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
I would love for you to read today’s Scripture in your own personal Bible!

Romans 3:24-26 (NLT): ²⁴ Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. ²⁵ For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when He held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, ²⁶ for He was looking ahead and including them in what He would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate His righteousness, for He himself is fair and just, and He makes sinners right in His sight when they believe in Jesus.

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
I hope you’ve taken a moment to read the verses referenced above, as they’ll help you better grasp the context of this devotional.

Paul has just finished showing us that no one—Jew or Gentile—can be made right with God by keeping the law. Our ancestors struggled under its weight, and so do we. But now, in these verses, Paul lifts our eyes from our failure to God’s astonishing grace.

Look closely at verse 24: despite our disregard for our Creator and all He has done; His amazing grace makes us right in His sight. Grace means unmerited favor. In other words, though we have done nothing to earn favor with God, He chose to extend His love anyway.

It is easy to see how scripture like this inspires songwriters to lead us in worship! When meditating on this truth, worship song lyrics like “There’s Never Been Anyone Like You” and “Thank You for the Cross, Lord” naturally come to mind. How can we help but worship our Heavenly King?

Verse 25 brings us to the heart of the gospel: Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sin. We hear that phrase so often in Christian circles that it can easily roll off the tongue without hitting our hearts.

Imagine standing before a judge in a courtroom. You know you are guilty. The jury returns a verdict of “Guilty,” and just as the judge prepares to announce your sentence, a man in the courtroom stands up. He steps forward and offers to serve your exact punishment so you can go free.

How would you feel toward that man? Would you accept his offer?

This is exactly what Jesus did—only His punishment took Him all the way to the cross. He bore the full penalty of our sin so that we could be declared righteous. And when we believe in Him, God remembers our sins no more. On Judgment Day, instead of hearing “Guilty,” as in that courtroom example, we will hear, “Not guilty—enter into My heaven for all eternity.”

Paul explains that God did this to demonstrate His righteousness. He was patient with sinners in the past because He was looking ahead to the sacrifice of Christ. Now, in this present time, He shows Himself to be both fair and just, and the One who makes sinners right when they believe in Jesus.

Paid in full. That is the message of Romans 3.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Think about how you would respond to someone who took your place in that courtroom. You would likely visit his family, support them in his absence, talk about his sacrifice every chance you have, and eagerly await the day you could spend time with him again.

These are the same heart attitudes we can bring to Jesus and His work on earth today. So let us honor Him, speak of Him, serve Him, and long to know Him more fully.

Beyond paying our penalty at Calvary, God offers an eternal gift: a place prepared for us in Heaven. Nothing on earth compares to the glories awaiting us. As we reflect on this incredible gift today, know that He has made room for you around His throne. Will you plan to share that space with me?

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, Thank You for the unbelievable gift of Your grace. We acknowledge that we could never earn Your favor or pay the debt for our own sins, yet You freely made us right in Your sight through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Help us never to take the cross for granted. Let the reality of what Jesus did fill our hearts with fresh gratitude, praise, and worship today. Teach us how to live lives that honor His sacrifice—serving Your church, sharing Your love, and looking forward with joy to our eternal home with You.In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
