Romans 8 | Right Standing With God – No Condemnation

DATE POSTED: Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and I was blessed to be at Mariposa Apartments, San Marcos, TX when God inspired me to prepare this devotional. Please visit NuggetsFromGodsWord.org to find and read all episodes shared over the years.

SCRIPTURE: Romans 8:33-34 ~ 33 Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. 34 Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

DEVOTIONAL: It may be easy to read over these verses without much thought, especially if life is going well and you are respected among family, friends, and your church community. Yet Paul reminds us that even though we can rest securely in God’s love and in the righteousness He has given us through Christ, we still have an enemy. Satan, the adversary and accuser of the brethren, continually seeks to bring accusations against God’s children before the Father. Revelation 12:10 speaks of him as, “the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night.”

If we are not firmly grounded in the Word of God, we may begin to think that our good reputation, faithful service, or personal efforts somehow make us acceptable to God. However, Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that even our righteous deeds are as filthy rags before a holy and perfect God. No amount of personal goodness can bridge the gap between sinful man and a righteous God.

But for those who belong to Jesus Christ, there is wonderful hope! Satan may accuse us and point to every failure, weakness, and sin, but the believer stands covered by the blood of Jesus. Through Christ’s sacrificial death and victorious resurrection, we have been cleansed and redeemed. God no longer sees us through the stain of our sin but through the righteousness of His Son. Jesus took our place, paid our debt, and now sits at the Father’s right hand interceding for us.

However, when we come before God in prayer, we may experience conviction concerning our sin, and rightly so, because the Holy Spirit lovingly works within us to make us more like Christ. But let us never confuse conviction with condemnation. Conviction is of the Holy Spirit and draws us toward God in repentance, while condemnation is Satan’s way of driving us away from God in shame. Please be reminded, because we are God’s adopted children through faith in Christ, there is nothing that can separate us from His love.

So come boldly before the throne of grace. Come with thanksgiving and humility. Remember that when you placed your faith in Jesus, your sins were forgiven and your standing before God was secured through Him. What accusation could ever overturn what Christ accomplished on the cross? What charge could cause God to reject one whom His Son has redeemed?

We serve an amazing God! I thank Him that He did for me what I could never do for myself. My righteousness could never save me, but Jesus could. Praise God that salvation is found in Christ alone. Only Jesus is able to make us right with the Father.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Your accomplishments, reputation, and good works may earn the respect of others, but only faith in Jesus Christ can make you right with God. Take an honest look at your life today. Are you trusting in your efforts, or are you fully resting in the finished work of Christ? Rejoice today if you belong to Him, for there is no condemnation for those who stand before God clothed in the righteousness of His Son.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, thank You for the assurance that my salvation rests in You and not in anything I could ever accomplish on my own. Thank You for the reminder from Your servant Paul that there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Help me to walk in humility, knowing that my righteousness is found in You alone.

Lord, I pray for every reader today. If there is uncertainty about their standing before You, draw them to Yourself and give them the faith to settle that matter today. Help them understand that forgiveness, salvation, and right standing with God are available only through Jesus Christ. Continue to use us to point our family members, friends, and neighbors to the truth of Your Word so that they too may know You and be ready for the day You call them home. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
