Guide My Steps & The Road Ahead

Without any documented research to prove this, I believe that we can safely say that, besides riches, the most sought-after thing by fellow humans and ourselves, is reassurance that we are headed in the right direction and that we will not stumble or fail along the way. David, the psalmist, found the magic to this, and in today’s Scripture he is sharing it with us!

SCRIPTURE FROM: Psalm 119:105-108; 112;
TRANSLATION: Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

BIBLE TEXT: 105 Your word is like a lamp that guides my steps, a light that shows the path I should take. 106 Your laws are good and fair. I have promised to obey them, and I will keep my promise. 107 Lord, I have suffered for a long time. Say the word, and I will live again! 108 Lord, accept the praise I want to give you, and teach me your laws.
112 More than anything I want to obey your laws always, until the end of my life.

APPLICATION: Notice that David didn’t ask God for a magic potion, or an instant miracle, for it is evident that David realized that the answers for his dilemmas or questions were already provided for him in the Bible. So as a good start, let us find our Bibles and commit to study them regularly so that we could find the answers for ourselves, like David found so useful for himself. Friends, I bet that at some point in your life, many of you may have gone to your pastor, or a physic, or perhaps even turned to astronomy for guidance on what to do, when to do it and how to do it. For there are daily challenges that we simply hang on to our seats and just hope that everything will work itself out. But what David is teaching us today, is not for the one looking for every solution to be placed in their laps and completed miraculously for them, while they sit back in their recliner. For David tells us that the answers are found in God’s Word. That tells me that David was willing to accept the fact that he didn’t have all the answers to life, and that he depended on the Mighty God of this universe to guide him in his decisions, direct every step that he took, and to open his eyes so he could clearly see the path ahead that he should follow. So, how shall we apply this to our daily lives? Well, the Book in which David found knowledge, wisdom and guidance, is still available to us today. However, I hope that you are more committed to reading your Bible than I am at reading many of the books I own. Most are placed on the shelf until disaster comes, or difficult situations arise, or it seems like all hope is lost. But if we are to truly look to God, through His Word, for answers to today’s dilemmas and opportunities, then we must get into the Word of God at the very beginning of each day. Just as you take time to warm up to your spouse before getting into a deep discussion, begin your time of devotion with God by talking to Him and asking for His guidance. Then, open the Word and see what God has in store for you that day. I would be happy to help you find a good Bible reading plan, based on the amount of time you want to commit to spending with God. Contact me below so I could help with that. You may not recognize God’s direction while you are reading, or even after you complete your reading, but based on personal experience, I believe that you will be amazed how often the very subjects covered in your devotional time, is aligned with things you will face that same day! You see, God knows what you will be faced with each day. He’s just looking for you to ask Him for wisdom and boldness to handle it like a child of His! Many will say that things don’t work exactly for them as I said above. I may not have all the answers my friend, but my God does. Be willing to do like David and surrender your will to the will of God; your knowledge to His; your uncertainties to His all-knowing and wise guidance. When you dish out guidance, discipline, wisdom and instructions in love, you are better accepted because your children or employees know that you are looking out for their own good. You probably learnt that from God, for that’s how He operates every day. Seek Him while He may be found and obey His commands with a heart like His servant, David.

BLESSING(S) NOTED: Why look anywhere else when most of us already own the resource where its author gives good and perfect instruction each day. He’s the only One who truly knows you, your circumstances and your future!

PRAYER: Lord, we acknowledge once again today that You are our Creator, Ruler and Life-sustainer and that You have a place prepared for us in heaven when our work here on earth is complete. While allowed to remain here, please make good use of us for Your Kingdom’s sake. You know the challenges we will face each day, so I ask that You please prepare us to meet those challenges each day by opening our eyes to the answers we will find in Your Word. We want so badly to do our part Lord, so help us to be dedicated to reading Your Word, conversing with You and following in obedience to all that You will teach us and point out to us. As we follow You, please touch the lives of unbelievers we come into contact with, so that they might develop a growing desire to know You intimately. AMEN!

Guidance For Living The Christian Life

In the very first verse of Romans 12, Paul addressed the Christians at Rome and pleaded with them to let their bodies be a living sacrifice to the Lord – the kind He could accept. In today’s Scripture, Paul continues to teach the disciplines of a life acceptable to God.

SCRIPTURE FROM: Romans 12:9-13
TRANSLATION: Living Bible (TLB)

BIBLE TEXT: Don’t just pretend that you love others: really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. 10 Love each other with brotherly affection and take delight in honoring each other. 11 Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.12 Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and prayerful always. 13 When God’s children are in need, you be the one to help them out. And get into the habit of inviting guests home for dinner or, if they need lodging, for the night.

APPLICATION: Saying that you love me may impress the world, but showing that you love me will probably impress God and the world. Saying that you love me will probably come just from the mouth, however showing that you love me will obviously come from every fiber of your being. To love someone you will want to know them intimately. It is extremely challenging to love someone when there are unknowns about them. But I have discovered that there is a really neat attraction to children of the same Father, our heavenly Father! For we tend to love the same things, like praying for each other, and talking about the one thing that is central for all Christians – our Lord Jesus. We respond to people and circumstances in similar ways, for we seek out the good that God has placed in each others’ lives. We celebrate and praise God for His answers to each others’ prayers and for the extra, and unexpected blessings that He bestows on us each and every day. Children of the same earthly father are linked through a blood relationship to each other. Children of the same heavenly Father are much the same, for we linked by the blood of Jesus that washed away our sin! We have a lot in common. Therefore when we see a wall rising up between another sister or brother and ourselves, we should seek the face of Jesus for the reason we feel that way. If we can find nothing that stands in the way between us and God, then we should approach our Christian Brother or Sister in love and ask them to have a similar search in their heart. I believe it is an ongoing goal of Satan to destroy relationships between us and our Christian Brothers and Sisters, but we know from the Bible that God is bigger than Satan, and more powerful than any vice Satan may try to bring between God’s children. Perhaps if we live according to verse 12, a demonstration of a beautiful garden of growth, with the three sweet peas of praise, patience, and prayer. And if we plant these seeds in your heart, we will do well throughout our earthly walk. Friends, God not only guides us and gives us the strength and guidance to be His representative here on earth, but He is the all-time designer and ultimate guide to living that will help us every day in our walk. Seek Him while He may be found, and live a life pleasing and acceptable to Him.

BLESSING(S) NOTED: With God’s help, we can be more than conquerors and live full and abundant lives while loving our neighbor!

PRAYER: Thank You merciful Father for reaching down and loving even me! Thank You for blessing me with strength and determination to live and love just like You even when the storms of life seem overwhelming and in such opposition to all that You have taught us. People all around me need the Lord , and my desire is that they will see enough of You in my life that they will be encouraged to call on You for forgiveness of their sin and make heaven their goal. Please have Your will and way in my life, and in the lives of all my readers, listeners, family and friends, so that the world will know that You live and love everyday in us and through us. AMEN!

Guard My Mouth

No doubt David had given some thought to what may cause him to do and say some crazy, human things at times. Because it is evident in these verses today that David looked deep within to find the root cause of things that may have helped him to mess up. I believe that we do the same thing on a regular basis, therefore I feel it would be good to stop and meditate on this for a short while today.

Bible Reference: Psalm 142:3-4
Translation: Amplified Bible (AMP)

Bible Text: 3  Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips [to keep me from speaking thoughtlessly].  4  Do not incline my heart to [consent to or tolerate] any evil thing, Or to practice deeds of wickedness with men who plan and do evil; And let me not eat of their delicacies (be tempted by their gain).

OBSERVATION: No doubt David had given some thought to what may cause him to do and say some crazy, human things at times. Because it is evident in these verses today that David looked deep within to find the root cause of things that may have helped him to mess up. I believe that we do the same thing on a regular basis, therefore I feel it would be good to stop and meditate on this for a short while today.

APPLICATION: Kids who are generally good, will often be challenged to look deep within after being tempted, or drawn into bad behavior or wicked deeds, because they hear things from family or good friends like: What on earth got into you? Or: The devil got hold of you child, because you weren’t brought up to think like that, or do those things! It seems like David had an awakening like that in this moment of his life. I find it interesting that God led David to search inwardly first, and then to subsequently share with us, the following thoughts: Firstly, David asked for help with his mouth. Isn’t this something that still tend to generally get us into our deepest trouble today? I believe that, like David, we need the powerful hand of God to help us avoid the need to say something on every occasion, especially things that are not intended to build up. Often we have helpful things that we could lend to a conversation, but more often than not, we are simply trying to show off our knowledge, our worth or our value. I love the way that the Amplified version clarifies that we have a general tendency to speak thoughtlessly. Secondly David prayed that God would protect his heart from evil. Friends, from the heart, our mouths will speak! In other words, we will only speak what’s deep inside of our hearts. If we feed it filth, we will speak filthy. However, if we fill it with words of wisdom, love and compassion as exampled by Jesus Christ, then don’t you know that your words will be filled with these good things. David also wanted to make sure that he would stand firm when the wicked perform evil deeds or practice wickedness.  This is probably one of the most challenging to deal with, because you could very easily be called Mr. or Mrs. ‘Goody two-shoe’, or accused of knowing it all. But to sit idly by and say nothing, might indicate your condoning of the behavior, speech or evil deed. I am convinced child of God, that if we fill ourselves with the Word and person of God, then it will overflow from our lips and through our deeds. When we see something different occurring, it is high time that we draw closer to God, so that He may wash us of our worldly tendencies and fill us with the love and person of His Son.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for working in the life of David. We come humbly before You today knowing that our hearts are impacted by this old world in much the same way that David found himself. So Lord, I pray that You might wash us clean of the evil that has rubbed off on us from this world, and that being filled with Your Holy Spirit, we might instead be a lighthouse in this world for You. Lord, may You be seen in our actions, heard through our words, and experienced by those who have given You full control of their lives. Lord, may witnessing followers of Yous have a deep impact on those who have rejected You as Lord up to this point in their lives, for this is my heart’s cry today. AMEN!

Lord, Lead Me

THE HOLY BIBLE Psalm 5:7-8Amplified Bible (AMP): 7 But as for me, I will enter Your house through the abundance of Your steadfast love and tender mercy; At Your holy temple I will bow [obediently] in reverence for You. 8 O Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight (direct, right) before me.

THOUGHTS: I believe that there comes a time in each of our lives that we wake up one day and question ourselves as to why did we do, or say certain things the day before. For some, this may mean that you are now thinking with a sober mind about the occurrences while you were under the influence. For some, this may mean that because you were under the influence of the Holy Spirit, you remember words coming from your mouth over which you may recall not personally having any control or influence at all. I feel like David (the Psalmist) is reminding us here that it is only because of the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ that we could ever be worthy enough to enter into His presence and reverently seek His face. Let’s take a moment and consider the righteousness of Jesus Christ – He’s the One who was divinely sent by His Father through the miraculous virgin birth; He’s the One who mentioned over and over again in scripture that His words and His actions were those dictated by His Father (God); He’s the One through whom God chose to heal, and even raise the dead to life again; He’s the One who sacrificed His life on Calvary for our eternal salvation, but whom God brought back to life again on the third day. This, friends, is the Holy Son of God that we bow before in prayer. Who are we, to stand before such a holy, loving, miraculous God? Yet, as David discovered and recognized in verse 7, through the abundance of His steadfast love and tender mercy, He entertains our presence and listens to our prayers. Are you feeling humbled yet friend? I certainly am! So let us not come before our Lord and Savior flippantly, or irreverently, or with any pretense of authority over Him, but let us enter His presence humbly, reverently and with utmost respect for the God who He truly is, and the littleness and meekness of the creatures that we are. It is only in this humble attitude that we can ask God to lead us into the path of His righteousness, to give up our earthly desire to be like the best human we could think of, and to follow in His footsteps, obey His commands, and to walk a path and lifestyle that imitates Him in every way. I sincerely believe that it is only then that our friends will discern that there is a God and that He is alive, because they see evidence of that in our lives. Friends, when we put all the earthly stuff aside, we can more clearly see the path that Christ has exampled before us, and the greater our desire will be to follow that path as our Savior leads us to, God being our helper.

PRAYER: Oh God, You are our God, our Designer, our Provider, and You have not only placed this world into existence, but allowed us to live here, knowing that our very life depends on You and the guidance of Your Son. Lord, it is very apparent that if we are to ever expect to live with You in glory, then we need to be obedient to You here on this earth and follow Your path designed for our holiness and our witness to others. Thank You for your patience with us. Please continue to mold us to be more like You in every way, so that Your work may be accomplished through us, and that our lives might be better attuned to You even while still here on this earth. Lord, lead me so that I might imitate You today, and that I might be one step closer to the path You have prepared for me to follow. May others see Jesus in me and through the words that I speak today, and may this be evident in all those who meditate on this devotional today, for this my humble and sincere prayer that I ask in the precious name of Jesus, AMEN!
