How To Remain Pure Before God

DATE POSTED Tuesday, 2022-09-27
WRITTEN AT: Okeechobee, FL

SCRIPTURE FROM: Psalm 119:9-11
TRANSLATION: Amplified Bible (AMP)

BIBLE TEXT: How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts].
10  With all my heart I have sought You, [inquiring of You and longing for You]; Do not let me wander from Your commandments [neither through ignorance nor by willful disobedience].
11 Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, that I may not sin against You.

APPLICATION: I believe when we think of ‘purity’ we tend to think of how a young girl manages to keep herself ‘pure’ before marriage. That may seem like such an ‘old-school’ philosophy to many today, but you might remember that God chose the mother for His divine Son, because she (Mary) was ‘pure’ and undefiled. Purity in the light of a female, or in the case of the one referred to by the Psalmist, refers to one who has remained fully dedicated to God and unscathed by sin. You see, when we enter into this world and are raised by godly parents, they teach us to distance ourselves from the temptations and teachings of this world, so that our minds will remain fixed on Jesus and open to all His teachings. Fortunately, for those who have not surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ, God sent Him into the world so that those who have become stained with sin, might seek His forgiveness and obtain His powerful help to discontinue imitating the world. God wants to redirect from a life of sin, to instead pattern our lives after the perfect life of Jesus Christ. Christians call that a process of being ‘saved’ – saved from the pit of Hell – the place where folk are sent when they refuse to accept the gift, the love, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I believe that one of the most impactful Bible studies I ever taken part in, was ‘Guardrails’. The principles taught in that study are similar to what David is teaching us in the Psalm today – keep watch over yourself; be deliberate in guarding yourself against the evil things of this world that will derail your walk with Jesus; there are things that will tempt you into returning to the free will and undefined ways of this wicked world; there are things that will impress upon you the pride of self-worth and personal riches vs the ways of God as taught to us in His Holy Word. Friends, I am presenting this study today as one living in this world, just as you are; facing daily struggles, just as you are; dealing with attractive offers by the evil one and his army of naysayers, just as you are. But because of the strength I find in Jesus Christ each day to open His Word, spend time with Him, be reminded of His teachings, and welcome His perfect will to guard my path each day, I feel like I am more than a conqueror in overcoming Satan, and I am guided down a path pleasing to my Lord! But so can you my dear friend. The power is in the all-powerful name and person of Jesus Christ. Unhitch from your personal desires and seek to honor Him in all things, and He will deliver you. There is good reason to surrender your will to the will of our Lord and Master, for He is the only perfect Son of God. And because He is perfect, we too can let go of sin, in full confidence that as we do, God will make our way clear for us to follow Him and live in His example. This, dear friends, is my sincere recommendation to all readers and listeners today.

BLESSING(S) NOTED: A life fully surrendered to the lordship of Jesus Christ can be directed down a righteous path that imitates the one and only perfect God! May we seek to follow God’s perfection in our lives today and every day!

PRAYER: To live in such a cruel, sinful world, it would seem like ‘purity’ might be the last result we could expect to see in men and women on this earth. But just as we were reminded by the Psalmist in today’s Scripture, we are just human beings, but praise God, we serve an almighty, all-powerful God who is holy, righteous and perfect in every way. Besides that, You are very capable of hearing the prayers of Your people and blessing them with the sincere desires of their heart. You did it for me, Lord, and I know You will do it again for those who choose to accept Your offer of forgiveness, and for strength to endure and overcome every temptation that may come our way. May the ‘imperfect’ seek help, forgiveness and guidance from the only ‘perfect One’ today! AMEN!

The Glistening Purity of Jesus Christ

Monday, 2019-03-11

Bible Reference: 1 John 3:1–3
Translation: The Message (MSG)

Bible Text: What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who he is or what he’s up to. But friends, that’s exactly who we are: children of God. And that’s only the beginning. Who knows how we’ll end up! What we know is that when Christ is openly revealed, we’ll see him—and in seeing him, become like him. All of us who look forward to his Coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.

OBSERVATION: When last have you recognized a child of God? Do you suppose that the world sees a difference in you, versus the rest of the world? Do you feel like the love and character of Christ glows through you in every word or action that comes from you? I find it reassuring that in these verses we are told that when we see Christ, we will become like Him – the glistening purity of the Holy One! I believe that also reaffirms that the things of this world, and the evil one, will no longer have a hold on us! What a day that will be!!

APPLICATION: I see such a sweet assurance in the beginning verse of how much my heavenly Father loves me, and how He calls us His children. My eyes were also opened to the reminder that the world may very well dislike us, because they do not have an appreciation for the things, or character of God. But then I realize that if we do not conform to the ways of the world, then they would hate us anyway, per Romans 12:2. In fact that verse tells us that God will change us from the inside out, so of course we will be different to anything we, or they have ever witnessed before. But friends, the captioned verses today reminds us that our God will come one day to take us home to be with Him. Now that’s a day that we all look forward to, amen? But what about the here and now, what are we to be doing – how then shall we be living? Thankfully John covers this in verse 3, for he advised that we should aim to live like Jesus. I found it interesting that the Message chose to use such an awesome description of the life we are to live: ‘Glistening purity of Jesus’. That makes me think that we are to live squeaky clean lives, just as Christ was perfectly clean/pure. Friends, I believe that the bottom line is that we live the changed life that we have committed ourselves to. If we don’t, imagine how confusing it must be for nonbelievers to hear us preaching the goodness of the Lord from our mouths, yet living like the Devil in our actions and all of our practices. Jesus was pure in every way, and that’s what we are called to do, and be, as children of God. Are you willing to commit to living the pure life exampled by Jesus Christ? We can do that with the sole help of the only pure and holy One – Jesus, the Christ! Let us therefore place our faith and trust in Him to live our lives pleasing to Him.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, You lived a perfect life amidst lots of evil. We also are called to live the kind of pure life that You lived, even when our world seems more corrupt and sinful today than anytime in history. For those of us willing to live the example You have set before us, may You endow us with power, wisdom, determination and total surrender, so that the enemy might see Jesus in all that we do and say. We need You precious Savior. Please work miraculously through us so that Your work might be done, for Your glory only. AMEN!

Prayer In Anticipation of What’s To Come

Scripture

Bible Reference: John 17:13-17

Bible Text:  13 “And now I am coming to you. I have told them many things while I was with them so that they would be filled with my joy. 14 I have given them your commands. And the world hates them because they don’t fit in with it, just as I don’t. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from Satan’s power. 16 They are not part of this world any more than I am. 17 Make them pure and holy through teaching them your words of truth.

Bible Translation: The Living Bible (TLB)

My Take

Jesus was about to leave this world and return to His Father. While on earth He touched the hearts of many and saw them come to a saving knowledge of the Father. However, He knew that there was great opposition to the stand His followers took as children of God, as compared to the rest of the world being led by the evil one. So while Jesus was happy to return to His Father, He dreaded the idea of leaving His children among the likes of Satan and his earthly tempters. I believe that is most admirable of our blessed Savior, don’t you? So I believe that the question for us today is that knowing what our Lord did for us, how concerned are we for those we love? Can we honestly stand before God and say that we have prayed in all sincerity for our lost ones, or that we have shared the Word of God with them? I believe that we are prepared to pray that they be shielded from the evil one, because we would never want to see anything bad brought to them, but how often do we in all sincerity pray for that? As a child of the King, and aiming to be more like Jesus every day, I believe that God would rather see us imitate the example of our Lord and Savior, more than anything else that may seem somewhat important to us.  Friends, let us be reminded that we have only one life to live here on this earth, and only what’s done for Jesus will last. Oh that we will start each day determined to live a life pleasing to God, and that our relatives, friends and loved ones might come to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, based on the reality of what they see lived out in us. This is so important, especially knowing that one day soon we will stand before the throne of God and answer for our choices that we have made here on earth. My determination is that God might look intently into my eyes and share His pleasure with the choices that I have made and the life I have chosen to live here on this earth. May I count on you to do the same friend? If there is anything I can do to help you insure your eternal destination, or anything I can help you pray for regarding a loved one you fear is still without Christ, please drop me a note and allow me to pray with you. Jesus knew that we who are left on this earth would suffer through the temptations of this world and its leader, but He also knew that for the joy of what lies ahead of us, we may stand strong and joyful in the fact that greater is he that is in us than he that is in this world! Friends, we are assured that joy lies ahead for those of us that have the eternal hope of being with Jesus on that great resurrection morning! Based on the word of God, I can be confident in that fact that joy will come in the morning for me, I pray that you can do the same!

Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for all that You have done for me and Your other children who have accepted You as Lord and Savior. We may struggle in our circumstances today, but praise be to the God of this universe, I know what the future holds for me and I know who holds the key to that future hope. You provided the way, and through Your Word You have shown us the way to eternal hope in You oh Lord. Please help us keep our eyes of faith focused on You and a burden for the souls of those that we love and care for, as we should be most concerned about their current decisions in preparation for their eternal hope. Please burden us with an urgent heart for the eternal destination of our family and friends so that together we may look full into the wonderfrul face of  Jesus on that judgment day and sing praises to the King of Glory, together with our loved ones. AMEN and AMEN!

Will God Find You Faithful?

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! Read on and be blessed friend!………

The Bible Text: 20 For I am afraid that when I come I won’t like what I find, and you won’t like my response. I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior. 21 Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.

My Take Away: If someone catches us doing something we shouldn’t be doing, we tend to get embarrassed because of our guilt. However, there are times that we could be fired for being caught doing something that we shouldn’t be doing. Ever got downright angry at a child, or maybe even an adult, when you caught them doing something that you specifically told them not to do? Our scripture reading today illustrates how Paul shared with the Corinthians about his fears in what he would find when he returned to them. Friends, I believe this was placed in the Book to not only show us the heart of Paul, but also help us understand how God might feel if He returned to gather His church together today. For some, I believe we would really wish that God would come right after our devotional time in the mornings, or perhaps right after church on the weekend. The reality is, that God could return to get His church at anytime He chooses to, for He’s in control of that. Paul listed a number of qualities he was afraid he would find when he returned. What would you be embarrassed to have God return and find you doing today friend? What character qualities are you ashamed of, especially when backed up against a wall? Which of your relationships are less than pleasing to God? Paul may have asked that some be excommunicated from the church. However, God may cause you to question if you ever really gave Him control of your life. Remember, He is either Lord of all, or not Lord at all to you. He could return to take you home even today friend, won’t it be joy to hear the words from our Father, “Well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the eternal glory of heaven with my Father and I”. May I encourage you to either make a decision to accept Jesus as your Savior today, or to renew and refresh Your relationship with Him if you are already a child of the King? May I also encourage you to seek the face of God and ask for forgiveness of the sin in your life, and for strength, guidance, and wisdom to overcome the temptations of this old world, so that you may remain faithful to Him until He calls you home? We need to be ready at all times friend!

Prayer: Lord God, thank You for loving us enough to provide the means for our forgiveness of sin. Thank You for providing Your living Word to show us the way to live here on earth, while pleasing You who art in heaven.  Please forgive me for allowing the things of the world into my life that distract me and cause me to stumble along my path of trying to please You. Please touch the hearts of Your children today and help us to be reminded of the urgency in which You can easily come to take Your church home to be with You. Please help us to live holy lives, even as You are holy. Please help us to stay so connected to You and Your Word that we can know right from wrong, and that we may gain strength to go on without giving in to the temptations of this world and its master, Satan. Your love is amazing dear God, may our love for You in return be evident by the way that we choose to live. For I ask these things in the strong and wonderful name of Jesus, AMEN!
