Don’t Turn Back Now!

SCRIPTURE  FROM:   Hebrews 6:4-6 (TLB)

TEXT:  There is no use trying to bring you back to the Lord again if you have once understood the Good News and tasted for yourself the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, and know how good the Word of God is, and felt the mighty powers of the world to come, and then have turned against God. You cannot bring yourself to repent again if you have nailed the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting him, holding him up to mocking and to public shame.

OBSERVATION:   At first read, this appears to be a very challenging passage of Scripture, but I sincerely feel like God has a message in it for us today. Just consider how the Word of God opened your eyes at some point in your life, and moved you to accept Jesus as the resurrected Son of God, who came to make the way possible for you to enter heaven’s gate. Then consider at some point denying all of this. God wants to speak with us today about not turning our backs on Him.

APPLICATION:   I want us to think for a moment about the ‘day of salvation’ for us. Perhaps we heard a sermon, or was blessed to have a friend share with us one-on-one about their Savior and Lord, or perhaps we were reading the Word of God and was touched by what we found to be true of our Heavenly King. Reflect back on your early days as a Christian, when you felt like you and God could conquer the world. What awesome times you enjoyed basting in the love of Jesus, feeling the touch and leadership of the Holy Spirit, and seeing the hand of God work in miraculous ways in your life. Now I want you to fast forward five years, after losing a child, divorcing your spouse and returning to some bad habits from your ugly past. For the friend that knew you in all three worlds – before you were saved, while you were saved, and after returning to your first world, what might they be saying about you. What is your witness saying to the one you were trying to win to Christ while you were at the height of your Christian life? Do you suppose that they are convinced that Jesus is alive and well, or whether He may still be dead and hanging on the cross? Friends, these actions are so serious, that God said through the writer of Hebrews, that a person who fits that description and lifestyle cannot be saved again. I understand that we are told in life not to use the word ‘never’, as in ‘never be saved again’, but God’s Word is true dear One, and there is reason why He would warn us so strongly about this. So may I encourage readers who are unsaved, to please examine the truths of Jesus, and please run a reference check by asking other believers about their life after accepting Christ. Be convinced that Jesus is alive forevermore, and that His love for you today is just as strong as the day that He voluntarily hung on that cross to die for our sin. It is worth it all to accept my Lord as your Savior, and make a lifetime commitment to serve Him until He calls you home to glory. You don’t get married, just to try it out. You don’t have a child, just to see what it’s like to have one. Please be deliberate about your decision to accept Jesus as your Savior, it’s for the rest of this life and for all eternity! There is no other love, like His love for us. No one else cares for us like He does. No one ever did as much for us as He has done. When we commit to Jesus, He will keep Satan at bay, if we are serious and ask Jesus to do that. No one can pluck us from the hand of Jesus, as recorded in the Word of God. Know Him today and know that peace my friend!

PRAYER:   Lord, You are so good to us! Thank You for providing the means for us to enter Heaven’s portal to be with You and Your Father! Oh how we look forward to that day! For as long as You see fit to leave us here on earth, I pray that You will bless us with a sincere commitment to serve You and to lift up Your name before all those that we come into contact with. Lord, may You rule and reign in our lives and be evident to those we associate with, so that together we can walk into Your presence and enjoy the promise of heaven for all eternity. Please keep us strong, and determined to never turn back. AMEN!

Not ‘Eclipse’ but ‘Apocalypse’!

Post Date:

Tuesday, 2017-08-22
SCRIPTURE

From:

Luke 17:30-36 (TLB)

Text:

 30 Yes, it will be ‘business as usual’ right up to the hour of my return.
31 “Those away from home that day must not return to pack; those in the fields must not return to town— 32 remember what happened to Lot’s wife! 33 Whoever clings to his life shall lose it, and whoever loses his life shall save it. 34 That night two men will be asleep in the same room, and one will be taken away, the other left. 35-36 Two women will be working together at household tasks; one will be taken, the other left; and so it will be with men working side by side in the fields.”
OBSERVATION:
The word “apocalypse” comes from the Greek word apokalypto, meaning “to appear,” that occurs here. Jesus’ sudden appearing at the Second Coming will constitute the greatest apocalypse in history. When it begins it will not help to flee for cover – like many did yesterday in the USA with the eclipse. Everyone was told not to look at the sun during the time that the eclipse occurred. At the time of the apocalypse it will matter whether you have been looking forward to the return of the SON and whether you know Him as Savior and Lord. In the eclipse you stood a chance of losing your eyesight if you were careless about looking at the sun without eye protection. With apocalypse you stand to lose your life if you are unprepared to receive the King of all kings, Jesus Christ.
APPLICATION:
The most common answer for most people to the question “How was your day?”, is ” It was business as usual”. Interesting, because those are the words used by Scripture to drill into us what our state of readiness should be for the return of Christ. I believe this means that my work calendar may not be as critical as it appears to be every day. In other words, if I don’t remember an appointment, a reminder will pop up on my computer screen reminding me of that meeting. My lunch hour is marked on my calendar so someone doesn’t make a vain trip to my office during that time. I prepare ahead for most of my meetings, and I prepare well ahead by packing a lunch and taking it with me each morning. Why we could have even put the eclipse on our calendars, and purchased protective glasses in advance, because scientists had calculated precise times for various points in the country. To the contrary, Jesus said that not even He knows the day or the hour of His return, however He teaches throughout Scripture that when He appears (apocalypse), He will gather those who are prepared and ready to go. Then how and when should we be ready for that? I’m so glad you asked, because an apocalypse sounds nothing like the Hurricane Tracking Station watching a weather disturbance begin off the coast of Africa, then turn into a tropical depression several days later, then a hurricane that appears to be heading for a highly populated area of our country, giving us several days of warnings and preparation time. If God is the only One who knows when His Son will appear, and we know from His Word that He is returning for a prepared people, then it behooves us to be ready right now, in case He decides to return before breakfast, or perhaps while we’re at lunch or even in that important long scheduled meeting this afternoon. There’s nothing to pack, like we would for a trip or a long absence from home. There’s no planning for boarding the pets or announcing to the neighbors. The Bible says that Jesus will come for one purpose only – to take His children home to glory. ‘His children’ are composed of those who accepted His lordship before He returns. If you have done that, then you are ready for the apocalypse. If not, your chance will end in a instant – when He appears. There is nothing we can prepare ahead of time, other than our heart. Be obedient to the call of Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior, and you will be saved – according to the Scripture. Your changed life will overflow with evidence of that and Jesus will include you in the number that He will return to take with Him to heaven. Those who fail to do this will not remain with business as usual, for Satan will begin turning up the heat as he introduces you to your new home – Hell. I write this blog everyday hoping that you will not be left behind friend. Please read my Footnote and take advantage of the hyperlinks to help you change your life today, please?
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus Your Word is clear that You will return to collect Your own to spend eternity around Your throne in heaven with You and the Father. You have given us, what seems like an eternity, to recognize our need for the Savior, and to surrender our life of sin to the only One capable of washing our slate clean, and therefore presenting ourselves holy and righteous before our awesome God. Thank You for the provision dear Jesus, and thank You for hearing my heart’s cry for forgiveness. Please guide me to be an ambassador for You before a lost and dying world. I ask that You also touch the heart of each reader today, so that they may have the same assurance as I do, so that together we may meet at Your heavenly throne as we bow before You and the Father. Should You return before this blog hits the internet highway, or at any time You decide. May we be ready to go! May Your name be exalted today by Your children, and may You be sought earnestly by those who have doubts about their state of readiness. This is my heart-cry today oh Lord. AMEN!

Warning! Be Alert!

SCRIPTURE

From:

Matthew 24:23-28 (MSG)

Text:

23-25 “If anyone tries to flag you down, calling out, ‘Here’s the Messiah!’ or points, ‘There he is!’ don’t fall for it. Fake Messiahs and lying preachers are going to pop up everywhere. Their impressive credentials and dazzling performances will pull the wool over the eyes of even those who ought to know better. But I’ve given you fair warning.

26-28 “So if they say, ‘Run to the country and see him arrive!’ or, ‘Quick, get downtown, see him come!’ don’t give them the time of day. The Arrival of the Son of Man isn’t something you go to see. He comes like swift lightning to you! Whenever you see crowds gathering, think of carrion vultures circling, moving in, hovering over a rotting carcass. You can be quite sure that it’s not the living Son of Man pulling in those crowds.

OBSERVATION:
In this Scripture it was obvious that Jesus saw clearly how easy it was for the people to be persuaded about the return of the Lord, so He gave some clear signs for children of God to look for, and he gave warnings for things that might sway them towards misrepresentations of the return of Christ.
APPLICATION:
Unfortunately we still see lots of examples like those Jesus warned of in this passage, for we know of the glamourous attractions of various public ‘ministries’ that easily get the attention of thousands and thousands, who will travel hundreds of miles to be miraculous touched by them. Friends, I hate to burst your bubble, but these ‘men’ or ‘women’ can merely lead you to the cross for healing from the Master himself, and as the Word of God says, it’s because of your faith in God, that will heal you, nothing more, nothing less. We’ve heard the predictions of many about the day of the return of Jesus. Not possible, for the Word of God declares that Jesus Himself doesn’t have that date or hour, only the Father Himself. Do pray tell me why someone would declare that they are closer to the Father than His very own Son! Please don’t misunderstand, as I am not saying that you shouldn’t be encouraged by a public ministry figure. However, should they cross the line and meet the criteria that Jesus is warning us to look out for, please be diligent enough to know that it is time for you to move on. Know also that the only way you will know TRUTH, is to study the Word of God yourself, for if you don’t, then everything will sound right to you that may come from every teacher – true or false. In conclusion, let me assure you that the Word of God is clear that Jesus will return again to take His bride – the church, home to be with He and the Father. ‘The Church’ is made up of born again believers in Jesus Christ, so in some households or churches, one might graduate to heaven while their friend right next to them may have never surrendered their life to the Lord Jesus. When will this occur? Jesus said that He is unaware of the date or the hour, for only the Father in Heaven knows that. Being ready to go now is the only way of assuring you that should He return in the very next minute, or later in the year, or just at a future date, it doesn’t matter, for you will be ‘ready’ to go! I hope that you can share and appreciate the excitement of that return with me friend! When we’re excited about a trip or any future event, we become impatient with delays, oh that Jesus will keep us excited about our journey as we share with others today and every day!
PRAYER:
Having just taken a trip, the impatience of delays and disruptions are fresh on my mind, so Lord Jesus I pray that You will be with Your children as we standby for the trumpet sound and the gates opening wide as You return to take us home to glory with You! We can hardly contain ourselves as we think about that! Now may we be bold enough to share that excitement with others, so that they too might catch a glimpse of the day of Your return and accept Your invitation to join the throng as we await Your return. Oh, ‘What a Day That Will Be, when My Jesus I shall See, when I look upon His face….’. Lord, may the excitement of Your return incent your children to witness to others today and every day until You return! AMEN!

God’s Mighty Power Within Us

Monday, 2016-09-19

Scripture

Bible Reference: Ephesians 3:20-21

Bible Text:   20 Now glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes. 21 May he be given glory forever and ever through endless ages because of his master plan of salvation for the Church through Jesus Christ.

Bible Translation: The Living Bible (TLB)

My Take

I read from the book of 2nd Kings this morning where King Hezekiah was faced with a battle against the very strong, powerful king of Assyria, who overwhelmed him with numbers and strength. In one night God slaughtered 185,000 of Assyria’s men, so that king Hezekiah might be reminded of the awesome power of his God. Peter walked on water when commanded by Jesus to do so. The dead was brought back to life again by Jesus, and sight restored to the blind. Yet we face each and every day filled with challenge after challenge, and we wring our hands in despair, wondering how we will ever see life beyond our current circumstances. It is no wonder that Paul had to remind the Galatians, and us, that our God who is at work within us, is able to do far more than we could ever dare to ask or imagine. Friends, I want us to remember that our needs and concerns are not new to God, for He knows all things. Just imagine, we are His chosen children, and He knows right down to the number of hairs on our head. He loved us enough that He sent His only Son, Jesus, to die the death of a criminal, just to provide the means of us overcoming sin and one day joining Him in heaven. So think about it, with a love that deep and sincere, can’t you appreciate what Paul is teaching here, that God cares for His dear ones; is very capable of doing anything we could ask – within the boundaries of His perfect will for our lives; and will indeed do what may seem so very impossible in our eyes? So for the child of God, we have a Savior who loves us, cares for us, and is capable of doing the impossibilities of mankind. What have we to fear or worry about? If we ask in faith, and within the boundaries of His will, He will hear His children and meet their needs. For those reading this devotional who have not accepted Jesus as Lord, and permitted Him to rule and reign in your life, may I ask you to consider making a change from your personal effort to understand and run your own life? Seek the face of Jesus, and accept His offer to love and reign in your life. I believe that He would love to show you how He could change your life and meet your needs. However ‘the ball is in your court’, and you need to make the decision to invite Him in. This decision depends on your willingness; you being alive; and Christ not having returned to take you home to glory yet. The latter two things you have no control over, and either of those could occur before you have finished reading this devotional.

Prayer

Thank You Jesus for speaking to me many years again and urging me to make a decision to accept You as Lord. I also thank You for loving me and working in my life daily, as I still face a variety of challenges by just being in this old world. Please control my decisions today, and please control my tongue and my actions so that I may always represent You well. Lord, for all those reading this devotional today, and for all my family and friends, I pray that You would soften the hearts of those unsaved, and that You will be allowed to be an active part of the lives of the others that have already accepted You as Lord. Of our own strength, we are very weak and limited as to what we can accomplish for the kingdom today, but with You, I am reminded that we can do all things. Please bless us with Your presence and Your power, so that we may be a blessing to others. In all that we do, may the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts and minds be acceptable in Your sight oh Lord, all for Your glory alone, AMEN!

What To Expect When Jesus Returns

Tuesday, 2016-08-16

Scripture

Bible Reference: 2 Thessalonians 1:7–10

Bible Text: 7 …… He will come with his mighty angels, 8 in flaming fire, bringing judgment on those who don’t know God and on those who refuse to obey the Good News of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will be punished with eternal destruction, forever separated from the Lord and from his glorious power. 10 When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe…..

Bible Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

My Take

Notice how careful I was in choosing the word ‘when’, instead of the shorter word ‘if’ in the title of today’s blog? I believe you should also notice how careful Paul was in the choice of words he used in verses 7 and 10. Friends, I believe that most worthy of note in these verses today is the following:

  • Jesus is coming back again, and there is a purpose in His coming. For He will:
    • Bring judgment on those who chose not to accept Jesus as Lord of their life. Now you might quickly retort that you never made such a choice. May I just clarify that the opportunities given to you over your lifetime to accept Jesus, and you opted not to accept Him – those are the times that you actually opted to continue life without Jesus. Those were the times that you elected to spend eternity in a burning, miserable, Hell with Satan for eternity. However, there is a second purpose for Jesus returning,
    • Throughout His Word, God made it clear how we might be reconciled with Him. How we might be sure that our eternal home will be in heaven with the triune God and His angels. For those of us who obeyed His call on our life, and accepted His gift of salvation, then we can look forward to the greatest praise and worship service yet! For verse 10 says that when Jesus returns He will glory in the praise and worship of those who know Him personally! I look forward to that day with such great enthusiasm. How about you?

So friends, rest assured knowing that Jesus will return. This could very well be the day of His return, and one of the above points describes your condition, and the action that Jesus will take when He comes to you. Are you satisfied with what His action will be towards you? Please read over the advice I am offering in my Footnote and rest assured of the best direction for your life through all eternity. I believe you would very easily buy life insurance to make sure that your loved ones are secure after your passing. Won’t you also make sure that everything is in order for your own life eternally?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, what a glorious thought to know that there is purpose in our life that leads to our destination choice even after we pass from this world. Thank You for opening our eyes to the requirements that can be worked on even now, so that our eternal destination will be determined and secure. I believe that there are many who will read this who may not have fully secured their position and therefore may be hoping for a bright future with you instead of knowing without a doubt where they will spend eternity. Open their eyes Lord, and allow them to see the glories of heaven and the Savior that awaits us with open, loving arms.  Lord we are so looking forward to see You and singing Your praises. Please rule in our lives today in every way, AMEN!

Are You Prepared?

The Holy Bible  (The Contemporary English Version – 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18): 14 We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died. 15 Our Lord Jesus told us that when he comes, we won’t go up to meet him ahead of his followers who have already died. 16 With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God’s trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. 17 Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. 18 Encourage each other with these words.

Thoughts:  To help understand how the decisions we make today impact our future, I want to compare what happens when a natural disaster approaches, versus the decisions we make regarding our relationship with Jesus Christ. For when we evaluate our decisions in either scenario, the result can make the difference between life and eternal death. Here are some choices we have to consider in both scenarios:

  1. When the warnings of an approaching disaster are up – such as a hurricane, or other killer-type natural disaster/storm:

    Natural Disaster: We may have time to make some last minute preparations or purchase supplies to help us while we are displaced. But most importantly we must decide if we will obey the evacuation and/or preparation orders;

    Spiritually: Again in this scripture today we are given the warning that only those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior will go beyond life as we know it today. In other words, eternal life in heaven. We are either reassured of our impending resurrection with Jesus, or we are stubbornly deciding to continue in the way of this world and accept our destiny in Hell when Jesus comes to take His children home to glory;

  2. During the preparation period:

    Natural Disaster: We are warned at the beginning of each hurricane season about the items we should have stashed away for a quick evacuation, should it become necessary. After visiting with a friend up north and seeing his disaster kit in the trunk of his car, I know that in cold areas you are also warned to be prepared should you be forced to remain in your vehicles in extreme winter storms. In both cases, in advance preparation we are able to get quality items and avoid disaster at the stores before the last minute preparers hit the stores. We also stand the chance of getting to the stores and purchasing what we need while there is safety and time to do that. Plus the stress of entering an announced impending disaster period is much reduced when we are ready in advance;

    Spiritually: We are warned whenever we read the Bible. We are reminded when we read the newspapers and see all that is going on in our world today. Fellow Christians and/or pastors remind us whenever given the opportunity. As in the case of Natural Disasters, we have a choice to prepare in advance and enjoy the blessings of Christianity even while here on earth. However, of even greater importance, we stand ready to meet God, should sudden death come upon us.

  3. The results of our readiness, or lack thereof:

    Natural Disaster: We often hear of deaths resulting from unprepared citizens. They made a choice to be unprepared, and they paid the ultimate price. Even if prepared, the individuals still went through a lot of stress evacuating, and possibly still got caught in some of the fury of the disaster;

    Spiritually: Even so Come Lord Jesus, Come! Paul likened it to the greater joy that is to come, compared to the joy that is ours here on earth with our Master at the wheel of our lives. Imagine the sweet, sweet spirit of being in the presence of Jesus, worshiping and glorifying Him for endless days. What a Day that will be! This is the peace and joy that Christians have while here on this earth. We are happy here, but sure that we will be even happier with the Lord!

Please forgive me for writing such a long blog today, but sometimes it may take a side by side analogy to help some folk truly understand the importance of accepting Jesus Christ today, being prepared in advance, and anxious about the day that Jesus calls us home. Are you ready for that friend? See my Footnote for further instruction. Jesus is Coming Soon, let’s be ready to go!

Prayer:  Lord, Your Word has displayed a warning light for us again today, for it has reminded us of the need to be ready for that glorious day when You will call us home to glory! I know that this will not be a shining day for some, because they have chosen to ignore the warnings. If they are granted time enough to read this devotional today, I pray that You might graciously soften their hearts and convince them of the need to be prepared, for I believe that Your return is very near. I especially pray for family and friends who have not yet heeded the warnings from You, and I pray earnestly for their salvation. In Your own perfect way Oh Lord, please deal in their lives today, for I want to see them when I join all the saints around Your throne in Heaven. Thank You for drawing me to Yourself some 39 years ago, please continue to use me for Your glory while allowed to remain here on earth. I will praise and honor You for all things Oh Lord, for I ask these things in anticipation of Your perfect will being accomplished, and with thanksgiving, AMEN!
