Wait On the Lord and Worship Him

DATE POSTED Friday, 2023-01-06
WRITTEN AT: O’Brien, FL

SCRIPTURE FROM: Psalm 123:1-2
TRANSLATION: The Voice (VOICE)

BIBLE TEXT: I raise my eyes to fix my gaze on You, for Your throne resides in the heavens.
Just as the eyes of servants closely watch the hand of their masters,
Just as a maid carefully observes the slightest gesture of her mistress,
In the same way we look to You, Eternal One, waiting for our God to pour out His mercy upon us.

APPLICATION: Ever noticed that the things of this world tend to tug on our hearts in such a way that we become engrossed in more, more, more of its evil ways? Take for example politics – the more we sit and watch the hatred spread by opposing members of our political leaders, the angrier we become, and the more vindictive we become with those who oppose our views? The more we watch television, the easier it is for us to keep waiting for the next movie about to come on. Those same types of unfortunate attractions seem to impact us when we hear of squabbles involving close relatives, or church members. But for those who put their trust in the Lord, I believe that David set an excellent example for us to follow, and throughout the Psalms, he offered many examples of why and how we could reflect God in our everyday lives. Let’s stop the busyness of this new year long enough to peak in on what is being shared through Pslam 123 today. I read where one pastor gave good advice that might help us really take note of the words from the Psalmist: “Here is a real secret for me: I have found that if I look inward, I’ll be depressed. If I look outward, I’ll be distressed. But if I look up and fix my eyes on the Lord, I’ll be strengthened“. I found this so true as I review life today. So, let’s add to that what else we feel God might reveal through the inspired words of David:
=> Fix Our Gaze on The Lord – Many inspired writers in the Bible make reference to how their strength comes from God, the maker of heaven and earth. But where does mankind tend to look for help in getting them through the end a challenging day at work? What about when the pressure of life is hitting hard, where do we tend to turn for help? Isn’t it sad that even Christians tend to try everywhere else, before they finally surrender to God and seek His help, His guidance and to soak in His love? Step aside from the ways of the world and the stress that Satan tends to create in us when he pushes us towards his vices and his sinful answers to life. Strive to gaze on the Lord, worship Him, and wait for His direction.
=> Watch for God’s every move – I love the way that a few translations compare this to a slave watching for the gestures of his/her master. I am often blessed beyond anything I deserve, when I reflect on the many ways that God has worked in my life! Going through situations of life, it sometimes seems like there is no hope, and perhaps not worth living, if tomorrow will only bring more of today’s troubles. However, for the child of God who knows where their strength comes from, it is vitally important that we study and obey God’s commands, and stay true to our commitment to Him, for He cares for us and will not lead us astray. Even when the next move seems impossible, or if questionable to us, keep trusting God and watch for His every move as He guides you through, what He knows to be, the very best for you.
=> Seek His mercy – Why? You might ask. When you have done everything that this evil world presents to you, even those things that you are convinced that God would not approve of, what do you suppose you deserve from God? My friend, it is only through the grace of God, and because of His tender mercies, that He still looks on us in love and draws us to Himself. His mercy is everlasting, and because He loves and cares for us, He will extend mercy to us when we seek His forgiveness and His power to overcome sin.
Let me remind you friend, that none of the three items that I elaborated today can be aided by our friends, nor would they be forgiving enough to try and help. Only the God who created us can see the true value in us and love us anyway. Only God will give us second chances to face the challenges of this world like His child and be the best representatives like He deserves. Show them the ways of God and express His love through everything you say or do. Let them see Jesus!

BLESSING(S) NOTED: We serve an awesome God who is willing to forgive us of our sin and instead empower us to walk in His ways. so that the world might know He lives and reigns on high!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I surrender all to You and worship You for the awesome God that You are. I want to be just like You, Lord, but I need Your strength and Your power to overcome the world. Please continue to bless and empower as only You can. Please forgive us in our lack of commitment and the failure of obedience that ensues every day. Teach us Lord to walk in Your footsteps every day, not just those days when we really need to hear from You on a problem that’s bugging us and is much bigger than anything we could handle alone. The sad eyeopener is that others are impacted by our responses to life’s encounters, but way too often our response has nothing to do with Your teachings or Your commands. I know that we were not saved to soak and sour, but rather to let our lights shine for the glory of God. Please Lord, guide us to be everything that You desire of us. May Your kingdom increase, and may it become a better place to live because of the hope that we have, and the part that we play in it in representing You. AMEN!

Waiting For Jesus

DATE POSTED Sunday, 2022-03-06
WRITTEN AT: Okeechobee, FL

SCRIPTURE FROM: Matthew 17:14-16
TRANSLATION: New Living Translation (NLT)

BIBLE TEXT: 14 At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.”

APPLICATION: I believe that if we surveyed the Sunday morning congregation of worshipers why they are present in God’s house that day, the answers will be as varied as the people who are gathered. For the crowd in our Bible story, notice that Jesus didn’t even have to ask why they were there, they automatically approached Him with their needs. But let’s remind ourselves that there is much more to seeking an audience with the God of this universe, so the million dollar question for us today is: where do we go in order to meet with Jesus? Let’s give this some thought:
-o- WORSHIP – There comes a time when most individuals will look into the heavens and acknowledge that ‘THERE IS A GOD’, for we see Him: in the beautiful sunrise; the exquisite oceans where fishermen locate our delicious seafood and laypersons enjoy the art of fishing and water-sports; we witnessed the birth of a baby, where one of the parents were told repeatedly by doctors that they could never have kids; we saw personally how a relative was healed from a disease that doctors threw in the towel on. In fact, much like the wisemen said when they saw the star, they felt compelled to go and find the infant so they could worship Him, and perhaps we may come to the same conclusion – He is worthy of our praise, and we must find that perfect place where we might worship Him!
-o- HEALING – Some of us have heard one too many times that the doctors could do nothing else for our relatives. But the evidence is clear from the Bible, that God provided healing to the blind, the lame, the mute and He even brought the dead back to life again. Surely the ailments of our loved one is nothing when compared to the impossible situations just mentioned. We must find where God is so that we might petition Him with our desperate physical needs.
-o- COMPANIONSHIP – After years of perfect companionship, some of you may have experienced the loss of your companion. Now what? Where can you find God so that you might draw close to Him as you seek His guidance and comfort while trying to finish up life here on earth all by yourself?
Friends, I’m sure that each of you have unique reasons for seeking the presence of Jesus. In fact, you are extremely challenged to see outside of your challenges to recognize God, to listen to His tender voice of compassion, to actually worship Him in spite of your loss, or to follow His guidance as He directs your path. I’m sure you are desperately searching for God’s whereabouts, so you could share your heartfelt joys and concerns with Him. Please allow me to suggest that you try to worship God, even when your enemies are showing you all the roadblocks. Call on Him wherever you’re at, and know that He is always near. Remind yourself of the incredible love shown at the cross of Calvary, and know that God loves you and considers you more precious than any bright, shining metals that we spend thousands of dollars for. Remember, He created you in His own image, so there is nothing that He won’t identify with or help you overcome. Just wait, I say, on the Lord!

BLESSING(S) NOTED: Seek the Lord while He may be found. Exalt Him and worship Him for who He is. He has not lost His awesome power to heal, forgive, and love. He is anxiously waiting for you to find Him right where you’re at.

PRAYER: Lord, we are reminded that when we reach the totality of our abilities and our efforts, You are still there with opened arms ready and willing to accept us – Your creation and Your child. Please teach us and remind us each day that as we place our faith and trust in You each and every day, we will also learn to reach out to You through our good times, our bad times and especially through our challenging times. Just as the crowd determined where You were at, and they waited for You with many items beyond their control and abilities, we too have access to the same wonderful Savior still today. We need You Lord. Please help us to seek You in every phase of life, no matter where we find ourselves geographically. Please teach us to depend on the one constant each day – our Almighty God. Healer, Protector, Guide, Deliverer, Savior and Friend! AMEN!

Then You Will Know That I Am Lord

DATE WRITTEN: Thursday, 2021-03-18
WRITTEN AT: Okeechobee, FL

BIBLE REFERENCE: Exodus 10:1-2
TRANSLATION: Contemporary English Version (CEV)

BIBLE TEXT:  The Lord said to Moses: Go back to the king.[a] I have made him and his officials stubborn, so that I could work these miracles. I did this because I want you to tell your children and your grandchildren about my miracles and about my harsh treatment of the Egyptians. Then all of you will know that I am the Lord.

OBSERVATION: Such a familiar story, but it seems like we only hear about the plagues and all the bad things that came to the Egyptians. But God opened my eyes to a key point in this whole story, and it made me personally look back over time to remember how God revealed Himself to me in miraculous ways, refreshing my mind to once again realize that He indeed is Lord of all. Think of the same experience in your life as we meditate on the Word today together.

APPLICATION: About 3-6 months before my wife and I moved to the United States, I sat down to break the news to my parents. My dad was visibly upset and said just a few words: ‘Now that your mom and I are getting older, you are really moving further away from us?’. Those words stung like a bee, but I was convinced that God had heard our prayer for direction in the move, so I felt like He had a plan in place for us. Within 8 months of assuming residency in the USA, I received word that my dad was not well, and my siblings were not convinced that doctors had properly diagnosed his problem, nor treating him with a prescription that would help him. In all of God’s wisdom, and in His awesome power working in me, I was able to get an uninsured foreigner into a local doctor. Into a prime hospital, have a heart stint placed, treated for the loss a kidney due to blood clots and half of his huge medical bill satisfied by a local hospital fund. Weeks after the hospital stay, my dad gave a loud sigh and told me that ‘Now I understand what God was doing in getting you over here’. Based on our Scripture for today, I believe my dad was saying ‘I have again been reminded that Jesus is Lord’. Friends, I believe that as we read through the Word of God, we must remember that it is not a fairy tale, for the same God who did miraculous things like illustrated in our Scripture today, is the same God who works in our lives today. The reason He does these things is made clear to us in our Scripture: He wants us, and our children, to know that, or be reminded that, He is Lord! He is not a fairy tale that performs miracles on everyone else except us. If you have accepted Him as Lord of your life, then you must be reminded that He is Lord of everything in your life; He will take care of you; He will guide and protect you; and He is preparing a place for us in Heaven where we will be victoriously positioned with Him! He is Lord, dear friend, and He has a plan for each of us. Know Him today dear friend, and be ready to watch His plan unfold in your life, for His glory!

PRAYER: I am reminded of the words of an old hymn: ‘Oh what a wonder it is that Jesus loves even me’. I thank You Lord for creating me in Your image, being a constant part of my life over the years, and for promising a place called Heaven where all believers will spend eternity with You and the Father. The Egyptians used and abused the Egyptian people living in their country, but I believe that You would have freely forgiven them if either plague had brought them to their knees in pleading forgiveness of You. We have much to read and share with others about Your miraculous works in Bible days. But Lord, I know that You are still very much alive and actively working in the lives of Your children today, so please help us to share these blessings with others – especially our children, so that they may know You and believe in You for their salvation. Lord, we believe You are Lord. Please help us to open our hearts to allowing You to display Yourself through us each day. AMEN!

The Lord Still Waits For You

DATE WRITTEN: Friday, 2020-07-03
WRITTEN AT: Okeechobee, FL

BIBLE REFERENCE: Isaiah 30:18
TRANSLATION: Living Bible (TLB)

BIBLE TEXT: 18 Yet the Lord still waits for you to come to him so he can show you his love; he will conquer you to bless you, just as he said. For the Lord is faithful to his promises. Blessed are all those who wait for him to help them.

OBSERVATION: In our Scripture today, Isaiah tells us that in spite of the trouble that Israel found themselves in, and in spite of all directions they were looking to for help, they should be consciously aware that the Lord , who is faithful, still waits to conquer and to bless them. As we meditate on this promise today, I would suggest that we reflect on the things that tend to really stress us out and send us looking for help in many ways and with various professionals. Yet God is still waiting for us!

APPLICATION: I believe that many doctors help patients deal with the stresses of life, either through medical advice or through medications. Yet the Scripture reminds us that the Lord still waits us! I believe that our pastors are kept very busy counseling with church members who struggle with the stresses of life. Yet the Scripture reminds us that the Lord still waits us! I believe that employees go to work with a lot on their mind, and will often make it almost impossible for others to work alongside them, because of financial, family and other social stresses. Yet the Scripture reminds us that the Lord still waits us! Isaiah saw that the Israelites were ready to return to Egypt for help. He saw that the people wanted horses that were faster, and perhaps that would resolve their dilemma. But God made it clear to Isaiah that He was still waiting for them to call on Him, the only One who could truly help them. Aren’t we the same today, dear friends? We still tend to stress out over a lot of life’s issues. I believe that our loving Father must look down in deep concern for His children, and whisper to us that our ultimate help comes from Him. Don’t leave Him as the last alternative, but trust in the Lord with all thine heart and He will show forth His love, power and concern for us like no other can. Yes, I believe that He is still waiting for us to call on Him. Oh Lord, please help our unbelief. Please help us to keep Christ first in our lives, especially in our times of need, or questioning, or stresses or hurt. You’ve shown us in Your Word that You are very capable of Healing the sick; Restoring sight to the blind; Making the lame to walk again; Feeding the 5,000 with only enough food for one family (in our way of thinking); and raising the dead from the grave. In considering all that You have already done, we feel like our problems are really minuscule, so Lord, please take us as we are and clear our minds of all earthly concerns as You remind us of Your love, Your power, Your healing, Your forgiveness and how You are just waiting for us to draw near.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, I am reminded of a man stuck on a roof frightened about rising flood waters. He cried out to You for help, and in spite of Your multiple efforts to save him, he declined it as he waited for Your answer to his prayers. I believe that way too often we too struggle to see how You are sending help our way, as we are so determined in our own mind how You should do it. It’s no different to what the Israelites did. So please help us to always apply Your Word to ourselves first, before we look down our pious noses at what others refuse to see when You show that You are there waiting for us. I’m sure You must repeat a phrase often that is used in the Bible ‘Oh ye of little faith’. Lord, we believe. Please help our unbelief and our doubts. Today belongs to You. Please help us to place our hand in Your outstretched hand as You wait for us, for we are weak and lowly, even though we serve the all-powerful, mighty and awesome God of this universe! AMEN!

How Long Will You Wait?

Friday, 2019-03-22

Bible Reference: Exodus 24:15-18
Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

Bible Text: 15 Then Moses climbed up the mountain, and the cloud covered it. 16 And the glory of the Lord settled down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from inside the cloud. 17 To the Israelites at the foot of the mountain, the glory of the Lord appeared at the summit like a consuming fire. 18 Then Moses disappeared into the cloud as he climbed higher up the mountain. He remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

OBSERVATION: In our Scripture today, we will see more about the patient obedience of Moses, and we will have the opportunity to compare our patience, or lack thereof, with this holy man of God. This is an eye-opening experience for every child of God.

APPLICATION: Out of the 168 hours given to us every week, there are some who calculate carefully which one-hour period they will give to God. In other words, some will say that their one hour might be used for a church service, while others will say that because there is a monthly meeting at church that lasts an hour, there will be no church service for them that week. There are some who will attend a church service, but when that hour is up, they become very fidgety and start checking their watch every five minutes with hopes that the preacher sees that and gets the message that it’s time to quit. Friends, there are real life stories behind each of these scenarios, so please don’t assume for a minute that I’m exaggerating. Now I want you to read our Scripture verses again, then stop and meditate on the picture story conveyed in those words. Let’s then allow Moses to be our mentor and leader for a while this weekend, and let’s assume that you and I are two of the 70 elders mentioned in the accompanying story around these verses. Here’s what I believe our conversation might be: So Moses, I am fine in accompanying you on a trip up that mountain tomorrow, but how long will we be gone? You see, I have sheep that must be attended to and a sick child that my wife will be burdened with while I’m away. You see, I have important responsibilities. (Moses) – Son, my allegiance is to God. And as fellow Elders, we must obey the call of God. He said come, and I am merely following His command. There is no time limit, for our God may release us within a few hours, or it may take days. Regardless of our obligations here with our families, our lives are worth nothing without our God. It’s Him first, and then to follow in obedience as to what He tells us to do. Choose you this day whom you shall serve, young man. Friends, with these words on our mind, I believe that we will consider who our true Master is at all times, especially when it’s time to serve God, spend time with God, Worship God, or simply bask in His presence. Added to this, imagine Moses and the Elders waiting on the mountain day after day, and even after the 6th day – still nothing. No I didn’t say one hour, like we are more apt to commit to, nor did I say six hours, which may sound extreme to most of us. It wasn’t until the seventh day that the Lord called out to Moses from the cloud. But that’s not all, Moses then moves on up higher through the clouds and spends another 40 days up there with the Lord. Friends, what hit me hard here in this story, is that Moses was on God’s schedule, and not his own. Will the world continue on without you if God pulled you aside for about 50 days? You better believe it. You may feel like the shop won’t open tomorrow, or the kids won’t get to school, or the family will run out of money. Let me encourage you to get over yourself. The world will go on, your business will go on, and in your surrendered state before the Master of this universe, you will be blessed beyond all measure. Recognize that there is NOTHING more important than time with God. Recognize that your life is so complicated because you are so dependent on yourself and your capabilities. Let us STOP and get in tuned with the Master. He designed us, and this whole world in which we are a part. Don’t ever forget that HE has the power to do every little thing that we worry about, except our temptation to sin. God loves us from the very depths of His heart, and He will take care of us, and those things that we tend to worry about. So why not trust Him completely and wholeheartedly? Be willing to spend time with Him – any amount of time that He might demand. No time-limits, please?

PRAYER: They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall rise up with wings like eagles… Lord Jesus, please forgive us for trying to place You in the same category as our microwave, or our convection oven – instant results. How refreshing to be reminded of Moses, and the time that He spend waiting to hear from You, and then the time just basking at Your feet. Please revive Your church oh Lord – that’s us. For we need to be reminded of the importance of spending time with You without time limits. You alone are God, and we are Your masterpieces created to serve, worship and adore You. Please help us to always be reminded that the Master sets the time we are allowed to spend with Him, not the other way around. Oh that You might become so important in our lives that You will be our top priority. Please move in our hearts, draw us close to You, and use us to encourage others to do the same. AMEN!

How to Guard Against Temptation

Thursday, 2016-09-08

Scripture

Bible Reference: Mark 14:38

Bible Text: 38 Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.

Bible Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

My Take

I was touched by the fact that Jesus was going through so much emotionally in the Garden of Gethsemane, yet He didn’t get upset with his disciples over not caring about Him. Instead, Jesus gave them advice that they could use long after He had left them. He probably was also ministering to Peter for being such a ‘motor-mouth’, when he told Jesus that he would stick with Him through ‘thick and thin’, so Jesus had to remind him here that his spirit might be willing, but his body is weak. So what is the application in this verse for us today? I believe there are several things:

  1. Unless we ‘watch‘, for the advisory (Satan) – being on guard for the things that are opposing God and His perfect design, then Satan will pounce on us through various temptations, causing us to sin against God;
  2. Unless we ‘pray‘ to the Master and depend on His strength, His wisdom and His power, then we will quickly fall into the trap of Peter, where our spirit might be willing and wanting to obey God, but the weakness of our flesh will push us towards the things of this world and its master – Satan;
  3. No matter how willing our spirit and personal desire might be, we are weak without the awesome power of the Holy Spirit that God has empowered us with. We must therefore learn to call on God and depend on Him for ALL things – even those things that we feel very capable of handling ourselves, to avoid failure and being ‘sucked in’ by the advisory. Remember, we can do ALL THINGS through CHRIST, who strengthens us! He’s our Rock, our Redeemer and our soon coming King!

Have you surrendered your life to Him friend? Will He recognize your voice when you call on Him as being one of His? It you have doubt, may I encourage you to read my ‘Footnote’ and follow my suggestions, so that you may KNOW – without a doubt, whose you are?

Prayer

Lord Jesus I thank You for Your awesome love and for caring for us, even when we should be thinking about others. You know what we need, and just as You expressed to Peter and his teammates in the garden, I believe You are still very interested in seeing Your children live according to Your will and way, because of being totally surrendered to You. In and of our own strength, we can do nothing towards being holy or totally dedicated to our calling of being ‘little Christs’ – Christians. We need You to help us live noble Christian lives in this world of hate, strife and sin. Not only will we be able to do all thing through Christ who strengthens us, but Lord I believe You will be at liberty to do all things through us – those who have totally surrendered to You and very open to allowing You to work through us. May You accomplish great things today Heavenly Father, and may we be found acceptable in Your sight, so that You may work through us, if need be. In total humility and surrender to You, I am asking these things dear Jesus, AMEN!

Wait Patiently For The Lord

THE HOLY BIBLE – 11 Teach me how to live, O Lord. Lead me along the right path, for my enemies are waiting for me. 12 Do not let me fall into their hands. For they accuse me of things I’ve never done; with every breath they threaten me with violence. 13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. 14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. ~ Psalm 27:11-14 ~ New Living Translation (NLT)

THOUGHTS: David had gone through many obstacles, battles and setbacks, and we often do as well in our everyday walk of life here on earth. Fortunately, David realized that he needed the God of all creation to lead him, protect him and guide him, so that he could make if safely through the traps of his enemies. Just because we have been blessed to enjoy life in a different century than David, we know that our challenges are just as real today as they were for David. We have the benefit of reflecting back on the awesome hand of God upon David, and we know that we serve the same living God that he served, and that God can do it all over again just for us. David gave us direction on how to overcome; how to get the help we need and where to get it from. We are instructed to wait patiently for the Lord, for He is not a puppet waiting for us to press a button for immediate action. He knows the perfect timing for us, no matter what the circumstances are, so let us learn to wait on His timing. I found it interesting that the Psalmist would add that we should be brave and courageous. I believe that this is a reminder that ‘waiting on God’s timing’ and Him answering our prayers in His timing, all serve to remind us that God is in control and we are not. He is the potter, and we are mere clay waiting to be molded by the Potter’s hand. I believe this reminds us that since our prayer life is more than just one way posting of our needs list, and that God actually talks back to us, He may very well give orders that may take us outside of our comfort zone. Are you ready to do whatever He says today friend? Yes, we must learn to be patient and obedient, but we must also be prepared for God to possibly steer us outside of our comfort zone.

PRAYER: Lord God, You proved Yourself over and over to our ancestors, and in many of our lives You have already done the same for us. We are such an impatient bunch, please don’t give up on us. We seriously need Your patience with us Lord. Please help us to always wait on the Lord, for only You have all the answers and the power to change hearts and lives so that You might receive the glory due to You. I humbly ask these things in the name of Jesus, AMEN!
