We Will Watch It All

Watching the launch of a rocket via television is exciting, but there is absolutely nothing that takes the place of being at Cape Canaveral, in person, to watch a ‘live’ launch! Many attend church services each week and hear about the return of Christ, but that is no comparison to seeing the signs happening that is outlined in our Scripture today, and looking up as you begin to see the arrival of our Lord, in person! Stay tuned as we meditate on this Scripture today.

SCRIPTURE FROM: Mark 13:24-27
TRANSLATION: The Voice (VOICE)

BIBLE TEXT: 24-25 As Isaiah said in the days after that great suffering,
The sun will refuse to shine,
and the moon will hold back its light.
The stars in heaven will fall,
and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
26 Then you will see (as Daniel predicted) “the Son of Man coming in the clouds,” clothed in power and majesty. 27 And He will send out His heavenly messengers and gather together to Himself those He has chosen from the four corners of the world, from every direction and every land.

APPLICATION: I once visited Cape Canaveral, Florida, for the scheduled launch of a spacecraft. There were many others present who, like me, wanted to experience the actual launch up close. About an hour before the scheduled launch, Wildlife officers came around to make sure that there were no alligators in the ditches, and that spectators were all at a distance from ditches. This was due to past experience that taught the officers that alligators jump right out of ditches when they hear the loud noice of the spacecraft engines and feel the earth trembling underneath them from the force of the engine thrust. Watching via television would not show, or allow you to experience, any of that just revealed, will it? Now let’s look at the Biblical account shared in our Scripture today. Some translations say that the mentioned events will happen after the tribulation, some say after false messiahs and/or prophets appear in the temple pretending to be Jesus. Our Scripture in Mark, confirms what Isaiah prophesied about, and also what the prophet Daniel foretold. Although I was touched by the whole passage, the part that the Holy Spirit really touched me is that, everyone will see the signs spoken of that announces the return of Christ. Yes, even that son whose mother has tried for years to have him attend church with her. Even that daughter who said that her dad’s religion is not for her. Even that dad who refused to stop drinking long enough to tenderly watch how his kids had accepted Jesus as their Savior and experienced a total transformation in their lives. Even more challenging is the fact that everyone will see loved ones, who are ready for the return of Christ, suddenly disappear as the angels collect God’s chosen ones. I know, some are thinking that I am overly dramatizing the message today to frighten those who have chosen to ignore the lordship of Jesus Christ. But I encourage you to think positive my friend because, for the believer, this is a very exciting time – the return of our Lord and Savior, just like He said He would, to take His bride (the Church – all believers in Jesus Christ) with Him to our eternal home! That’s more exciting than anything that has ever happened in my lifetime precious friend! But I certainly understand how an unbeliever would feel, for all along they have not been convinced to follow Christ, accept Him as Lord, or join us Christians in celebrating our risen Lord each week. This would be devastating for our family and friends who fit this description. But to all my readers today, this is yet another reminder to you that Jesus is alive and well, and that He will return one day, and I believe we will soon see the signs mentioned in our Scripture. Today you still have a choice. Can I encourage you to accept Jesus as Lord today, please? This is the only time promised to you, tomorrow may be too late. Consider reading my Footnote, and especially click on the link ‘To Know Jesus’, for more information on how you can change your destiny right now. I would also be thrilled to pray with you, if you would drop me a note!

BLESSING(S) NOTED: No matter how awful this world seems to get each day, there is a day coming – a day when we will see the signs of our Savior’s return, then we will see Him face-to-face! Oh glorious day!

PRAYER: I love that chorus ‘What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see’! Having been reminded of the nearness of time, and the signs of the time, I am about ready to spend more time outside looking up, for my redemption is nigh, praise to the Almighty! Thank You Lord for that assurance, and thank You for the provision so that we could be ready when You decide to come and take Your bride away with You. Please dear Lord, speak intently to those who have chosen to do life their own way – the ones who find no time for You. Please use Your Word today to convince them of their sin; convince them of the nearness of the end of time here on earth, and convince them of the only way to enjoy heaven when they can no longer live as they want here on earth. AMEN!

Comfort and Encourage Each Other With This

While some might consider this a morbid subject, I can assure you that each of us will travel this road some day! Having just lost a friend, and seeing the awesome strength in his wife, I thought it is perfect timing that God would have this Scripture come up as part of my daily Bible reading plan, because I want us all to be as prepared for the inevitable – death of a loved one, as this dear wife has been. Prepare your hearts for the Word of God and meditate with me, dear friends.

BIBLE REFERENCE: 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
TRANSLATION: Living Bible (TLB)

BIBLE TEXT: 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a mighty shout and with the soul-stirring cry of the archangel and the great trumpet-call of God. And the believers who are dead will be the first to rise to meet the Lord. 17 Then we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. 18 So comfort and encourage each other with this news.

OBSERVATION: While some might consider this a morbid subject, I can assure you that each of us will travel this road some day!

APPLICATION: Many folk struggle to survive the loss of a loved one, especially where there was a great relationship enjoyed. In fact, we often hear of surviving spouses following in death very soon after losing their mate. But why is this? Often we live in such a manner that it may sometimes appear to a loved one that you could care less if they were there or not. But, there are many, many relationships where one partner could easily speak for the other, because they are so closely knit and their minds are so intertwined after happily living together. For the Christian, I firmly believe that the awesome God we serve, knows all about our relationships, and He knows what an awful time we will go through when we lose that favorite person in our lives. At times He prepares us for that, by providing a new baby, or grand baby as a distraction. My wife witnessed this when she lost her mom just a few short years after we got our first and only child. At other times, God might bless us with rich moments together, where the memories of that loved one will last a lifetime. He might also bless us with such assurance about what might be a very short separation, or about the relief from medical issues for the one about to leave us. Whatever the circumstances, please know that we serve a God who knows all things, both past and present. He knows what we will need to go on without a parent, friend or spouse that we have been attached to at the hips. Notice in our Scripture that God wanted Paul to encourage his church at Thessalonica, and He wanted these words penned so that we who are alive today could also benefit from them. So pay close attention to how this will all play out friends. Although we are forced to bid farewell to our loved ones here on earth, there will come a day that Jesus will return for us, and God has outlined in granular form how this will all happen. When He appears, those in the graves, who died knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior, will rise first and meet with Jesus in the heavens! Then those of us who are still alive, and have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior will then rise to meet Jesus and our loved ones who went on before us, and we will remain with the Lord forever! So God wants us to encourage each other with these words, so that sorrow will not overcome us when a loved one goes on before us, for we know that one day we will see them again, and together meet our Savior and Lord! To my readers that will happen across this blog and you have not met this Jesus of whom I have spoken, please carefully notice that you will not be in that collective meeting with Jesus – for that is reserved for those who have already said ‘YES’ to Jesus. However, as long as there is breath in your lungs, and the Master has not yet returned, you still have an open option. May I introduce you to my Lord and Savior? I went into detail in my Footnote so that you might see from Scripture how to do this. Please take time to understand the Word of God and accept Jesus as Your Lord today. Without Him, you will not hear the voice of God on that day when Jesus returns. Please, please, please, accept Jesus today!

PRAYER: Dear Jesus, thank You for the reminder today that our hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and sacrifice. Thank You that we can know today that should I go first, or should I remain, one day soon we will all be together around Your throne singing Your praises and glorifying You for ever and for ever! As related by the surviving spouse of my friend, What a Day that Will Be, When my Jesus I shall See, When I look Upon His Face, the One who saved me by His grace….. Come Lord Jesus, come, for Your servant awaits Your call! AMEN!

Choices Today Determines Future Destiny

The Holy Bible  (The Contemporary English Version – 2 Thessalonians 1:8-10): Our Lord Jesus will punish anyone who doesn’t know God and won’t obey his message. 9 Their punishment will be eternal destruction, and they will be kept far from the presence of our Lord and his glorious strength. 10 This will happen on that day when the Lord returns to be praised and honored by all who have faith in him and belong to him. This includes you, because you believed….

Thoughts:  I believe that the topic given to our study today could actually apply to any choice that we make today, but I want to zone in on the choices we make about whether we accept Jesus as Lord or not. First of all, I will break the easy, but worse news. If you make no choice about your salvation, then you are in the first group that Paul refers to in this scripture today. For Jesus will return for those who have made a conscious, clear and definite personal decision to accept Him as Lord. Unfortunately friend, when you decline the invitation to accept Jesus as Lord, you are openly accepting the call of Satan to be his follower, and this will lead to eternal damnation for you – far from the presence of our Lord Jesus. Not pretty. Very unfortunate. I would hate to see this for anyone that I know, care about or had opportunity to witness to. The only ones not fitting into this category, are those who have made a personal commitment to accept and obey Jesus while alive here on planet earth. These precious folk will represent the welcome party for the return of Jesus, for we will be the ones honoring and praising Jesus for returning to earth to take us home to glory with Him! Oh what singing, oh what shouting, on that happy morning! So I believe that it is evident that our choice about our eternal destiny is actually put in place while we are alive. Any idea how long you will be alive friend? Isn’t it astonishing how many young folk die through accidents or illnesses these days? Isn’t it true that we have no idea how much longer we will live here on this old earth? Doesn’t this leave you with a sense of urgency about securing your ultimate destiny while your life here is a sure thing – a current moment thing? Don’t delay friend, I would love to know that you will be among the praising and rejoicing before our Lord Jesus on the day that only His Father knows the details about!

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for yet another reminder about decisions that must be made while there is still life in our bodies – today. This is way too important for procrastination. Way too important, with so many unfortunate repercussions to not care about making such a commitment. Thank You for softening my heart to surrender my life to You some 39 years ago. I am concerned about family and friends that I don’t get to spend near enough time with here on earth. I love them enough that I want to see Your very best for them, and I care enough about them that I would never want to see them face eternal destruction in Hell. May I please ask that You soften their hearts, like You did to mine, and lead them to all Truth, all Grace and Your all-sufficient, sacrificial Love, provoking them to a decision to accept You as Lord today? I would be eternally grateful dear Lord. Please provoke Christians meditating on this devotional today to a deep desire to pray for their loved ones also. We want to see You dear Lord, and we badly want our loved ones to be with us on that all important day. Your grace is enough, oh Lord. So I place my faith and trust in You believing that Your ultimate will might be accomplished today, AMEN!
