The Danger Of Not Surrendering ALL

Thursday, 2019-04-25

Bible Reference: 2 Kings 15:1–5
Translation: The Good news Translation (GNT)

Bible Text: In the 27th year of the reign of King Jeroboam II of Israel, Uzziah son of Amaziah became king of Judah at the age of sixteen, and he ruled in Jerusalem for 52 years. His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem. Following the example of his father, he did what was pleasing to the LORD. But the pagan places of worship were not destroyed, and the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. The LORD struck Uzziah with a dreaded skin disease that stayed with him the rest of his life. He lived in a house on his own, relieved of all duties, while his son Jotham governed the country.

OBSERVATION: I believe there will be great opportunities for worship, and for winning the hearts of the lost for Jesus, if they saw into the depths of a totally surrendered heart, when they looked at us!

APPLICATION: It seems like there is always one aspect of our lives that we don’t fully turn over to God. In this king’s life, he came short of cleaning up his country for the Lord by leaving the pagan places of worship. I wonder what all we leave behind when we, supposedly, surrender it ‘ALL‘ to Jesus? Perhaps ‘ALL‘ that we feel is necessary to surrender to Him? God brought great condemnation on the kings that did this. I wonder how much is really brought upon us because of our lack of commitment and total surrender. I bet we could not imagine how much sweeter our relationship with Christ would really be if we totally surrendered ALL of ourselves to Him. Not only was a dreadful disease (punishment) brought on King Uzziah, but the people continued to worship their pagan gods. The un-surrendered parts of our lives will be heavily attacked by Satan, because he sees that as an inroad into the life of a believer in Christ. What stops us from surrendering all to Jesus? I believe there will be great opportunities for worship, and for winning the hearts of the lost for Jesus, if they saw into the depths of a totally surrendered heart. Let’s seek His face and ask Him for the help we need to do this, friends.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, please help us to search deep within our hearts and analyze those parts of our lives that we have not totally surrendered to You. After meditating on Your Word this morning, I feel like I must do this, because I likened it to me making a long trip in a nice RV, but leaving the air-conditioners at home. The trip would be a lot more tolerable and comfortable if I had the units with me. When my life is not totally surrendered to You, I live life similar to my RV trip, missing some very important pieces that could drastically improve the quality of life on earth for me. Furthermore, my joy while serving You down here would be so rich, that I couldn’t even imagine how much sweeter it would be when I see You face to face in heaven! Satan is after us with such intensity already, please help us to not leave any parts of our lives even more vulnerable to Him. May Satan, and all of those that my friends and I come into contact with see Jesus in all of His fullness and glory! AMEN!

Don’t Turn Back Now!

SCRIPTURE  FROM:   Hebrews 6:4-6 (TLB)

TEXT:  There is no use trying to bring you back to the Lord again if you have once understood the Good News and tasted for yourself the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, and know how good the Word of God is, and felt the mighty powers of the world to come, and then have turned against God. You cannot bring yourself to repent again if you have nailed the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting him, holding him up to mocking and to public shame.

OBSERVATION:   At first read, this appears to be a very challenging passage of Scripture, but I sincerely feel like God has a message in it for us today. Just consider how the Word of God opened your eyes at some point in your life, and moved you to accept Jesus as the resurrected Son of God, who came to make the way possible for you to enter heaven’s gate. Then consider at some point denying all of this. God wants to speak with us today about not turning our backs on Him.

APPLICATION:   I want us to think for a moment about the ‘day of salvation’ for us. Perhaps we heard a sermon, or was blessed to have a friend share with us one-on-one about their Savior and Lord, or perhaps we were reading the Word of God and was touched by what we found to be true of our Heavenly King. Reflect back on your early days as a Christian, when you felt like you and God could conquer the world. What awesome times you enjoyed basting in the love of Jesus, feeling the touch and leadership of the Holy Spirit, and seeing the hand of God work in miraculous ways in your life. Now I want you to fast forward five years, after losing a child, divorcing your spouse and returning to some bad habits from your ugly past. For the friend that knew you in all three worlds – before you were saved, while you were saved, and after returning to your first world, what might they be saying about you. What is your witness saying to the one you were trying to win to Christ while you were at the height of your Christian life? Do you suppose that they are convinced that Jesus is alive and well, or whether He may still be dead and hanging on the cross? Friends, these actions are so serious, that God said through the writer of Hebrews, that a person who fits that description and lifestyle cannot be saved again. I understand that we are told in life not to use the word ‘never’, as in ‘never be saved again’, but God’s Word is true dear One, and there is reason why He would warn us so strongly about this. So may I encourage readers who are unsaved, to please examine the truths of Jesus, and please run a reference check by asking other believers about their life after accepting Christ. Be convinced that Jesus is alive forevermore, and that His love for you today is just as strong as the day that He voluntarily hung on that cross to die for our sin. It is worth it all to accept my Lord as your Savior, and make a lifetime commitment to serve Him until He calls you home to glory. You don’t get married, just to try it out. You don’t have a child, just to see what it’s like to have one. Please be deliberate about your decision to accept Jesus as your Savior, it’s for the rest of this life and for all eternity! There is no other love, like His love for us. No one else cares for us like He does. No one ever did as much for us as He has done. When we commit to Jesus, He will keep Satan at bay, if we are serious and ask Jesus to do that. No one can pluck us from the hand of Jesus, as recorded in the Word of God. Know Him today and know that peace my friend!

PRAYER:   Lord, You are so good to us! Thank You for providing the means for us to enter Heaven’s portal to be with You and Your Father! Oh how we look forward to that day! For as long as You see fit to leave us here on earth, I pray that You will bless us with a sincere commitment to serve You and to lift up Your name before all those that we come into contact with. Lord, may You rule and reign in our lives and be evident to those we associate with, so that together we can walk into Your presence and enjoy the promise of heaven for all eternity. Please keep us strong, and determined to never turn back. AMEN!

Will Jesus Know You as His Follower?

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? Pretty amazing that our awesome God would consider feeding even us with His Word! May I encourage you to read the whole devotional, and look for a blessing, friend!………

Today’s Bible Reference: Luke 13:23–25
Today’s Bible Text: A bystander said, “Master, will only a few be saved?” He said, “Whether few or many is none of your business. Put your mind on your life with God. The way to life—to God!—is vigorous and requires your total attention. A lot of you are going to assume that you’ll sit down to God’s salvation banquet just because you’ve been hanging around the neighborhood all your lives. Well, one day you’re going to be banging on the door, wanting to get in, but you’ll find the door locked and the Master saying, ‘Sorry, you’re not on my guest list.’
The Bible Translation: The Message (MSG)

My Take Away: Ever had someone sneak up behind you and blindfold you to see if you could guess who it is? Ever had a situation that you didn’t recognize the person, even after they revealed themselves to you? Perhaps you were mistaken for someone else they knew. It’s embarrassing when someone strongly believes that they know you, but you don’t recognize them in the slightest, isn’t it? This kind of reminds me of what it is like when someone appears insulted by asking them if they are a believer in Jesus. They may look at you and remind you that they are the one who attended Vacation Bible School with you in the 5th grade, and they have continued their belief in God by attending your church at least three times in the last year! So why would you possibly ask such a question of them? Friends I could go on giving you examples of those, whom I feel, might be surprised on Judgment Day. However, just like this translation indicates: Jesus responds that “this is none of my business”; for this is strictly something that He will work on each day until the time He calls that person out of this world. What God really wants you and I to do, is also in this scripture, for Jesus demands that we concentrate on our own relationship with the Lord. In other words, we have a fulltime job working on our own relationship with God instead of being so caught up in the affairs of others. Let me suggest that we look around and try to identify happily married couples. I believe you will do that by looking at the way they look at each other; the things they say to each other; the unending times that they strive to be together; the things the husband may do for his wife and/or her friends just to prove his love for her. Now, should that be any different when we try to show our love for our Lord? We will want to talk to Him as often as possible (prayer); We will want to be with Him and/or His people as often as possible (church); We will want to study His habits – His likes and dislikes and His desires for us (Bible Study and/or quiet times with the Lord); It will excite us to be around other folk who also love Him and is seeking to serve Him (church gatherings). Friends, these are just outward expressions of love for your Master that your friends will notice. Jesus knows your heart, so He knows what makes you ‘tick’ and why you do what you do. He knows if you’re serious about Him or just trying to impress mama by being in church each Sunday. Bottom line is that you may be successful in fooling all of the people all of the time, but God truly knows the heart of each man and woman. God will open the gates of heaven to you when He is convinced that you are sincerely in love with Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we often go through the motions of church attendance because we don’t want to disappoint the pastor, or because we promised mom that we would be in church at least each Sunday morning. It is obvious from this scripture today, that You look a lot deeper than that, for just like we can’t ever expect to sleep in our garage and wake up looking like a car, nor can we expect that church attendance will make us a Christian, or follower of Christ. Lord, please forgive us for our littleness in thinking that because we can impress our friends, that we can also trick You into believing we are a follower by going through the motions the world expects of a Christian. Lord, may Your Word penetrate our hearts and convince us of our sin. May we seek Your forgiveness of that sin, and may we strive daily to live for You, without being distracted about how our neighbor may be handling their lives. You are my all in all Jesus. May my life reflect that in all aspects of my character. AMEN!

A Warning To Those Running From God

May I encourage you to get your spiritual ‘Nuggets’ to start your day off right? We tend to adhere to warnings about approaching natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, but today I am sharing a warning about turning your back on God. Read up, take heed, and be blessed friend..

Today’s Bible Reference: 2 Peter 2:20-22
Today’s Bible Text: 20 People can be made free from the evil in the world. They can be made free by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. But if they go back into those evil things and are controlled by them, then it is worse for them than it was before. 21 Yes, it would be better for them to have never known the right way. That would be better than to know the right way and then to turn away from the holy teaching that was given to them. 22 What they did is like these true sayings: “A dog vomits and goes back to what it threw up.”[Prov 26:11]And, “After a pig is washed, it goes back and rolls in the mud again.”
The Bible Translation: Easy To Read Version (ERV)

My Take Away: I will do my very best to keep personal feelings out of this friends, because the Word of God is very capable of speaking earth-shattering truth to us all by itself! These verses come at the end of a discussion about false teachers who looked for opportunities with weak Christians to lure them back into their previous worldly lifestyles. I believe that if we think about the two choices here: (1) to encourage and promote someone on their walk for the Lord, or (2) to tempt someone with things from their past; we all may have some guilt here! However, Peter also saw this as prevalent in the day he wrote this book, and I believe God used the opportunity for Peter to warn all of us, because He knew we would fall into the same traps today. But here is a vivid picture of what Peter is talking about:

  • Where you were: You were a part of the world controlled by Satan and filled with sin and all kinds of acts and habits that lead a person to sin against the commands of the God who placed us here in the first place;
  • Christianity: You recognized the voice of Jesus who called you from this old world of sin, so you surrendered your life to Jesus and accepted Him as Lord. You learned about His commands and you did your level best to be obedient to God in every way;
  • Your return: Through a gradual slipping away from God; From many invitations from friends in your prior life; From a lack of plugging yourself into a Christian environment and friends; Through listening to the temptations of Satan through his earthly followers, you returned to a place in your life that was once attractive to you.

I believe you might get the picture, right? So I believe the warning is this for the child of God: If there was a time in your life that you stepped from the first stage above into the 2nd stage mentioned. You probably learned a lot about the character of God; the love of God and the instructions of God. Just because you might return to your former life, you did not have a strong magnet that erased all memory about what you learned, lived and experienced as a child of God. Therefore you return to a life of sin, while daily acknowledging to yourself that you know what you are doing is wrong, but you’re going to do it anyway. Friends, our God is a very faithful God, but He is a very jealous God. I don’t believe He has extended patience for a stubborn and obstinate child that looks Him in the face and says that I’m going to do it anyway, even though I know better and that it opposes the will of God. Be warned friend. Read the Old Testament and be reminded of how many were killed because they ‘chose’ to disobey or turn away from the God of this universe. Please don’t be fooled into thinking that this can’t happen again, especially to dear ones that you know, or perhaps to you personally.

Prayer: Dear God, You showed us sincere, sacrificial love like we have never seen before, yet some have chosen to leave a life that You have called them into, and return to the superficial love that this old world has to offer. Please once again work in the lives of my family and friends, and in the lives of those who will read this devotional today. May they feel Your holy presence so strongly that they would surrender their live to You today, oh Lord. I would be forever thankful. Please protect me with a wall of strength that will help me to stay strong in the faith and eternally grateful for the Savior who loved me so much. I ask these things in the precious and loving name of Jesus, AMEN!

Watch For Distractors In Your Ministry

THE HOLY BIBLE – 35 I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible. ~ 1 Corinthians 7:35 ~ New Living Translation (NLT)

THOUGHTS: Paul seemed to have been addressing church members who were caught up in trying to find happiness for their lives, without much regard to what might benefit their long-term benefit to the ministry of Jesus Christ. It seemed like there were members who were wanting to break marriages, because their spouse may not have been a believer at the time they came to know Jesus Christ. It seemed like some wanted to get married to find happiness, but wasn’t sure what to do. Friends we find these dilemmas every day, and although they may not involve marital choices, yet we ponder the right decision for ourselves under the circumstances. Paul encourage the Corinthian church to always bring into the decision equation whether the choice being considered will not only be pleasing to God for our future happiness, but also strongly consider how the decision will impact their ministry for the kingdom. Friends, decisions involving change in your life will tend to either facilitate or enrich your ministry, or it will negatively impact it and distract your ministry. I know, by now you are saying that you are safe because you are not the minister/pastor. May I encourage you to apply this squarely to your life Brothers and Sisters? You may think that your only ministry is praying for church leaders and the needs of church members. Fair enough, will the decisions that you make involving change in your life get in the way of your prayer life? Will it distract you and possibly hinder the time you spend in prayer, or the solitude of your prayer time? Paul’s plea with the Corinthian church is very applicable to us today. We must be careful, and seriously consider any changes in our lives that might distract our ministry for the Lord. If God is truly FIRST in our lives, then we really need to make sure that nothing else becomes first, or that it at least diminishes the value of our dedication to God and His work. May I encourage you to think carefully of any distractors in your life? It may not be a marriage partner, it may just be a girlfriend or boyfriend, or it may be your job, or it may be the demands of your friends to party with them. Whatever it is, only you and God will know. Seek His help and His guidance to help you stay focused and committed to your ministry for His kingdom’s sake. The benefits are ‘out of this world’!

PRAYER: Father, there is so much tugging on us for our time and our attention. For some, it may be exactly like the situation that Paul was addressing, it may be a new partner that someone is looking to take on for selfish reasons. For others, it may be total absorption into their job, for it totally consumes them. Lord we see the distractions that digital devices have brought to our homes, our churches and in our witnessing, yet we know that there are even more powerful distractors that Satan will use to trip us up, or block our ministry opportunities. Please touch your children today, and encourage Your servants to stay focused on You – the God who gave everything so that we might enjoy life eternally with You. Lord You are good and Your mercies endures forever. I pray that we might follow in Your footsteps. I ask these things in the strong name of Jesus – the name above all other names, AMEN!
