TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
I would love for you to read today’s Scripture in your own personal Bible!

Romans 3:5-8 (NLT): ⁵ “But,” some might say, “our sinfulness serves a good purpose, for it helps people see how righteous God is. Isn’t it unfair, then, for him to punish us?” (This is merely a human point of view.) ⁶ Of course not! If God were not entirely fair, how would he be qualified to judge the world? ⁷ “But,” someone might still argue, “how can God condemn me as a sinner if my dishonesty highlights his truthfulness and brings him more glory?” ⁸ And some people even slander us by claiming that we say, “The more we sin, the better it is!” Those who say such things deserve to be condemned.

APPLICATION – as inspired by the Holy Spirit
I hope you’ve taken a moment to read the verses referenced above, as they’ll help you better grasp the context of this devotional.

Knowing the thought process of his Jewish contemporaries, Apostle Paul addresses what they might be thinking about the fairness of God following his earlier teachings. Some were arguing: “What if God’s righteousness shines even brighter because of our sin? Why should He punish us for making Him look good?”

It may sound like a foolish argument to us today, but Paul wanted to leave no stone unturned. Even now, many of us carry hidden, unspoken questions when we hear preachers and teachers explain the written Word of God that may expose our hearts.

Paul quickly corrects this faulty reasoning. God is not only righteous—He is entirely fair. If He were anything less, He would be unqualified to judge the world. Human judgment is clouded by bias, emotion, and self‑interest. We judge based on our limited perspective, and sometimes even based on personal hurt or resentment. That’s why it feels so natural to look down on someone who has wronged us or someone we simply don’t understand. But God’s judgment is never tainted. He sees perfectly, knows fully, and judges righteously.

Later in this chapter, Paul will show us that God’s fairness is not only seen in His judgment, but also in His love. He points out our sin, leads us toward righteousness, and invites us into His family through Jesus Christ. That invitation is extended to every person—Jew or Gentile, American or Bahamian, rich or poor. God’s fairness is displayed most clearly in His plan of salvation.

Think about it: Was it “fair” for Jesus to be arrested, beaten, and crucified? Not at all—not if we only look at the suffering. But it was God’s perfectly fair plan for humanity, foretold long before Jesus was born. Through His sacrifice, the door of salvation was opened to whoever believes (John 3:16). God left no one out. The only requirement is faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

So, when we stand before God on Judgment Day, the only ones welcomed into His eternal kingdom will be those who have trusted in Jesus. That is God’s fairness—consistent, righteous, and available to all. The question is: Where will that leave you?

On Judgment Day, only those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ will stand justified before God’s throne. Where will you stand on that day?

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

When a court summons is delivered, the officer says, “You’ve been served.” After reading this devotional, I believe you’ve been served something far more important—the truth of God’s Word regarding your passage into Heaven. What will you do with it today?

• Know Jesus, and you will know peace.
• No Jesus, and there will be no peace – now or in eternity.
• No Heaven leaves only Hell. Which will it be for you?

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for being entirely fair in all Your ways. Thank You for revealing my sin, not to condemn me without hope, but to lead me to the salvation that You freely offer through Jesus Christ. Give me a heart that responds to Your truth with humility and obedience. Help me trust Your righteousness instead of my own flawed judgment. Please draw me closer to You today, and strengthen me to walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
