Nothing Is Impossible With God

Thursday, 2019-09-05

Bible Reference: Genesis 15:4-6
Translation: New Living Translation (NLT)

Bible Text:  4 Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” 5 Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” 6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.

OBSERVATION: I’m sure that like me, you are challenged daily with things you don’t know; things you have no power over; and circumstance you simply don’t understand. But imagine being told that a childless couple just received word from God that they would have enough children to start up another nation? I believe that as you meditate with me today, you will be reminded that we serve a great big, limitless God. Don’t you feel like you need Him every day?

APPLICATION:  In spite of all the special skills given to man, there are still times that we throw our hands up and surrender to the fact that a problem is beyond our God-given abilities, or out of our reach. Yet very early in the pages of this awesome book that God has inspired to be our guide through life, we have already learned that God took a mass of darkness and formed this world – earth, water, stars, etc.; He created man, followed by a help mate – woman; He took a couple who was childless, and promised to make a great nation from their offspring. In this passage today I was also encouraged to note that no matter how much power is revealed to us by God, yet He is always still so very mindful of us, and desiring our sincerity and obedience so that we may draw close to Him. In fact, Abram believed that God would do what appeared impossible to him, and this resulted in God considering him ‘righteous’ (right with God). To gain what I believe is the best meaning of a phrase, I like to consider its impact if the opposite were true. So in this case, if Abram would have laughed at God or showed doubt about what God would do, then perhaps God would have considered Abram ‘unrighteous’? How often would God consider us ‘unrighteous’ because of our unbelief and doubt? Friends, unbelievers may laugh at our faith, because they simply have not been around this awesome God of ours, to build faith in His abilities and to understand His unlimited and awesome love for us. But for those of you that know Jesus, what’s your excuse? Can God consider you ‘righteous’ because of your overwhelming faith in Him? Do you truly believe in Him? If not, may I introduce you to this Savior that I know, love and adore? Remember, only those who are right with God (righteous) will be allowed into heaven. May I count on seeing you there friend? I have provided a guide for you in my ‘Footnote’, and would be thrilled to personally help guide you towards meeting my Lord in a very personal and intimate way. Please make this choice a priority today, it truly is that important!

PRAYER: Father God, Your ways are so much greater than our ways, yet You have sacrificially provided the means for us to overcome sin and one day join You in heaven. Please forgive us when we doubt, and use those incidences as stepping stones to lead us into a deeper faith that will draw us even closer to You. Lord You are good and Your mercies endureth forever and forever. Please keep our ‘faith’ tank filled and energized to trust in You in all circumstances of our lives. You have proven that things that seem impossible to us are handled with just a spoken word by You. Again today I am reminded that Nothing is Impossible when I place my faith and trust in You. Please touch the heart and life of each one that will meditate on this devotional today. May we all draw strength from being reminded of the awesomeness of our mighty God again today, and may we use this to help us confidently spread the joy of our salvation with all those we come into contact with. I ask in the wonderful, powerful and loving name of my King, the King of all kings, Jesus the Christ, AMEN!

The Compassion of Christ

Post Date:

SCRIPTURE

From:

Mark 6:36-38 (ERV)

Text:

36 So send the people away. They need to go to the farms and towns around here to buy some food to eat.”37 But Jesus answered, “You give them some food to eat.”

They said to Jesus, “We can’t buy enough bread to feed all these people. We would all have to work a month to earn enough to buy that much bread!”

38 Jesus asked them, “How many loaves of bread do you have now? Go and see.”

They counted their loaves of bread. They came to Jesus and said, “We have five loaves of bread and two fish.”

OBSERVATION:
Jesus had been bombarded by crowds every day, and now wanted to escape for a few hours with His close followers to just relax and refresh. However, as they were approaching their destination they realized that the crowd was 2 steps ahead of them, and in spite of going the long way around, they were already on the other side of the lake. Jesus could easily have thrown His hands up and turned around to return where He and His disciples left from, but He had compassion on the crowd gathered and resumed His ministry to them.
APPLICATION:
I wonder how often we shrug off our responsibility to care for others like Jesus did? I wonder how many ministry opportunities are missed when we do that? I wonder how often we skew the concept of Jesus in the eyes of others, because we acted in a totally different way than what they were expecting Christ’s followers to act like? Jesus was looking for respite, but instead faced the same crowd that He was hoping to escape for a short period. Not only did Jesus attend to their spiritual needs for this huge crowd, but He also attended to their physical need of nourishment. I want you to think like most of the disciples did. Imagine taking an extra couple of friends home for supper, unannounced to your spouse – the cook who may have prepared enough for 2. Now imagine that you dropped a bombshell on your wife that you would like for her to prepare a meal for your Sunday School class of 30. If you survived divorce on that daring request, imagine that you are the pastor of a church and you asked your wife to prepare a meal for the congregation. Whoa, that’s a huge and daring request! OK, so this request, or demand, Jesus made of His followers to feed the crowd of over 5,000 was humongous in the eyes of the disciples, especially with them not having brought any provisions. However, what was impossible in the eyes of man, was totally possible with God! Once again Jesus had compassion on the crowd and used what little His followers found among the crowd, to multiply it and make it more than sufficient for the need at hand. Friends, let’s learn to never question God when we feel like He is directing us. If He created the world from absolutely nothing, and if He created man from just dirt, can you imagine what He could still do today in the lives of those He created and gave up His very own Son’s life for? As we stand in awe of His awesome power and compassion, may we recommit yet again to give Him control and allow Him to rule and reign in our lives, for His ultimate glory? May we be willing to give wholeheartedly like our Saviir did!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, thank You for accepting us as You children who are so desperately in need of a Savior. Our awareness of Your power and Your giving has been revitalized as we read this story once again. Now may we be willing to exercise our faith and strive to live our life experiences with You in mind and as our example. May others desire to know You personally because of seeing You in every fiber of my life. Bless my readers and encourage them to do the same. AMEN!

Where The Power Comes From!

Post Date:

SCRIPTURE

From:

Exodus 17:9-13 (NCV)

Text:

So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some men and go and fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill, holding the walking stick of God in my hands.”10 Joshua obeyed Moses and went to fight the Amalekites, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held his hands up, the Israelites would win the fight, but when Moses put his hands down, the Amalekites would win. 12 Later, when Moses’ arms became tired, the men put a large rock under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ hands—Aaron on one side and Hur on the other. They kept his hands steady until the sun went down. 13 So Joshua defeated the Amalekites in this battle.
OBSERVATION:
Moses had been given the ‘Staff of God’ while dealing with the Egyptian king and he saw God perform miracle after miracle to change a stubborn man’s heart. He had also used the staff on many occasions in the wilderness to do such miracles as parting the Red Sea, bringing forth water from a rock, etc. Then, of course, we are told in this passage how Moses also used the Staff to deliver Joshua and his men who protected the Israelites from the onslaught of the Amalekites. The source of the power to win this battle is evident!
APPLICATION:
I find it so interesting that we seek God in earnest prayer when we are sick or when something serious is going on in our life. However, when God answers our prayers and delivers us from, what seemed to be a very critical situation, we resort to giving praises to the handiwork of the doctors; the great care by the nurses; the love and concern of our family; etc, but often we move on with life instead of recognizing that it was the power of the Almighty, merciful Father that brought us through. In reading this biblical story today, it is very evident where the power came from for Joshua and his men to ‘overwhelm the Amalekites’, as one translation puts it, for as long as Moses held up the ‘Staff of God’, Joshua and his army would win, but when he became tired and the Staff of God dropped, Joshua and his men would suffer under the Amalekites. Could it be that it is the ‘power of God’ that: heals the sick and afflicted today; or comforts the broken hearted; or saves the unlikely neighbor or enemy of yours when you pray? Friends, I believe that when we recognize God in response to our prayers, we must not ‘beat around the bush’ about any worldly influence in that situation, instead we must use that as a praiseworthy situation to which God deserves our praise and thanksgiving. Those are especially times of witnessing for the awesome work of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the sweet Holy Spirit that prompts us to pray for power from on high. There just isn’t any other name or no other power like that of Jesus. As you acknowledge the power of our God, the unsaved will stop and begin to understand through real life situations how truly awesome our God is. May I suggest that you continue to pray with all your heart, soul and mind, but never forget to follow through in praise and honor to the God who can do all things, especially miracles where there is no other explanation for the outcome. Lift up the banner of God friend, so that the world might know and believe in the one true God and His precious Son, Jesus our Lord!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, we are often so ungrateful for all that You do in answering our prayer (lifting our ‘Staff of God’ before You), yet we are so quick to follow the crowd in giving others praise for accomplishing the very work that we prayer to You for. Shameful, shameful on our part. Please forgive us. I believe it is evident that You perform these miracles so that You might be lifted up, not that we might be satisfied that we have access to the Father anytime we need Him. You are not our ‘Santa Claus’, but rather, You are the God who created us; the God who saved us; the God who hears the heart cry of a sinner who had turned their back on You, yet You are willing to forgive and receive us as holy and acceptable to You. You are the same God that hears our prayer for circumstances that seem impossible to us, and You are not only attentive to our prayer, but You answer our prayers in the only way that is perfect. Lord, I have no understanding why we would not be in a mode of continuous praise and adoration of such an awesome Father, but You do, and so I plead with You to touch the hearts of Your children once again and teach us to recognize Your power and never be ashamed of giving You praise and glory for Your mighty works. Thank You Heavenly Father, AMEN!

Only God

From:

Exodus 14:31 (AMP)

Text:

31 When Israel saw the great power which the Lord had used against the Egyptians, they feared the Lord [with reverence and awe-filled respect], and they believed in the Lord, and in His servant Moses.
OBSERVATION:
The Israelites had a hard time trusting Moses and his God, as they suffered through the heat, drought and weariness of wandering through the wilderness, even though God came through for them on many occasions. Here on yet another occasion it became evident to the Israelites that only God could hold the waters back so they could walk through the Red Sea on dry land, and only God could give the command to fill the sea back, after the Israelites were safely on the other side and the Egyptians were dead center in the middle of it when it collapsed on top of them.
APPLICATION:
We could see where the episode detailed in our Scripture verses today is yet another in a series of miracles that God performed to help gain the confidence and trust of the Israelites that He allowed Moses to lead away from Egypt. At the conclusion of this particular episode, the Israelites were able to look back in wonderment of what God had just done to bring them safely through a body of water, then how He used that same body of water to destroy their slave-masters – the Egyptian army. Is this what’s missing from our culture today? I believe that miracles still occur, but are they getting passed off as happen-chance, or good luck, or great doctors? How about when a young drug addict is drawn to the Lord, is it ever said that it was because of the prayers of a praying mom and dad, that God got to the heart of that son or daughter and drew them to Himself? Friends, we are quickly approaching the Easter season where we are reminded of the resurrected Lord. He is still on the throne and still very active in the lives of His children. Yes we can tell the stories of miracles from the Bible so that we could be reminded of the power of our God, but we must never forget that He is still on the throne; He still answers the prayers of His children; and that He still performs miracles even today. Drug addicts and those trapped by Satan will quickly tell you of the dark underground where they live. Now if only Christians will be as quick to brag about the power of God in their lives each day! When you see answered prayer, believe me, that was a miracle of God, not because of any power of yours or your pastor’s. Be ready and willing to praise and thank God for the miracles, and always be ready to brag on your miracles so that others may see, or hear, and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. The Israelites saw and believed – your friends can do the same, if you remain faithful and give God the glory!
PRAYER:
Father, it took miracle after miracle to get through to the stubborn hearts of the Israelites that You carefully led out of slavery in Egypt. There are many of our friends, neighbors and family who are enslaved to the greater sins of this world today, and You have placed us plum in the middle of all this so that we could expose them to the miracle of the gospel. Please touch your children once again today dear Lord and give us boldness to declare the goodness of the Lord. We are thankful for the miracles we see each and every day through answered prayer, please help us to use those experiences to brag on You before an unbelieving world. May they see Jesus through our eyes, so they may understand the Miracle Worker that we love and adore. May they seek Your saving grace even today dear Lord, AMEN!

Confident in Our Awesome God!

Post Date:

SCRIPTURE

From:

Psalm 18:25-29 (Easy-to-Read Version)

Text:

25 Lord, you are faithful to those who are faithful.
You are good to those who are good.
26 You never do wrong to those who have done no wrong.
But you outsmart the wicked, no matter how clever they are.
27 You help those who are humble,
    but you humiliate the proud.
28 Lord, you provide the flame for my lamp.
You, God, turn the darkness around me into light.
29 With your help I can defeat an army.
If my God is with me, I can climb over enemy walls.
OBSERVATION:
As I read this Scripture and meditated on how David must have felt when He worshipped God with these thoughts, I could only think that he was recognizing a great work that God had just completed in his life. So here David is recognizing God for who He is and for all that He has done. This is so important to the child of God to return to God and praise Him for all that He has done! Applicable to us today? You bet ‘cha!
APPLICATION:
Ever notice that our personal prayer lives are filled with our lists of wants and needs? Why even at church we tend to really concentrate on the ‘needs’ of our brothers and sisters way more than we do our expressions of praise to our awesome God, and hearts that should always be filled with thanksgiving. We can learn a lot from David here, because after losing himself in praise and thanksgiving, he shares with us how this outlook on  God and his expressions of praise to God, gives him confidence to defeat a whole army and the supernatural power to climb right over enemy walls. Is this always easy for us? Absolutely not. I recently had a friend who had a child admitted to hospital with very special medical needs, could the parents truly sing the praise song in these verses? It would have been challenging while in the middle of the unforeseen battle by the doctors to save that child’s life, but for the parents whose hearts are filled with praise before the hospital stay, they would have confidence that God would protect, heal and love their daughter, and bless and direct doctors also. Friends, we have no idea what’s in store for us just around the corner of another day, have you been praising God and reinforcing the confident assurance that He is always there for you? Remember, with God’s Holy Spirit inside of you and God in control, you can do ALL things! Face the day with that kind of assurance, and prepare your mind for whatever comes your way, knowing that Our God Is An Awesome God!
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, just one of Your humble servants bowing at Your feet once again to say thank You for being so good to me! You are awesome in all of Your ways, and more powerful than any situation my readers and I might face today! Thank You for being so good to us! Lord, with the words of David we can also say today that greater is He that is in us, than He that is in the world, and with that confidence face our giants today knowing that You can empower us to climb over any enemy wall and win any and all battles that Satan may send our way. So to You I surrender all, and say thank You for Your protection, guidance, love and wisdom, AMEN!

God Will Never Let You Down

THE HOLY BIBLE – 11-12 These are all warning markers—danger!—in our history books, written down so that we don’t repeat their mistakes. Our positions in the story are parallel—they at the beginning, we at the end—and we are just as capable of messing it up as they were. Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence. 13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 ~ The Message (MSG)

THOUGHTS: I believe that Paul was warning the Corinthian church to take note of what God had done in the past to help their ancestors, and know that He can do it again for them. Our message in this study today is to also help us realize that our God hasn’t changed, and that He can do it again for us – similar miracles as performed for Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness. I am always amazed how things in our everyday life changes – cars; technology; houses; churches; dress, etc. but when we read about the works of our God from the very beginning of time, and as we are reminded by Paul in our passage today, I can’t help being totally encouraged to know that our God – the One who spoke to Moses through a burning bush; the One who used a man who was afraid to speak in public, yet used Moses to lead his people – in huge numbers through the wilderness, I can only reassure myself and encourage you in the fact that Our God’s not Dead, and that He can do that, and any other miracle beyond anything we can imagine, with just a word, or just the touch of His powerful hand. That’s right Brothers and Sisters, He can Do It Again! I know that we feel overwhelmed with the challenges of life, and I know that we may often feel like we are fighting a very challenging battle in our normal day-to-day lives, but just as Paul encouraged the Corinthians, I must use his example and encourage my readers today to know that whatever you may be going through, rest on His promises, depend on His strong hand, and be confident in His Word, that HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN! That’s just the wonderful, miraculous, saving, loving, awesome God that you and I serve friend! Let me encourage you that should you be in a good place emotionally when you read this today, please take note of these words and be prepared to ‘Carry Your Candle‘ of encouragement with you today so that you might allow God to work through you to encourage someone who may be struggling to see that hope that’s offered by God alone. To the one who will read this today and wonder about who this awesome God is, may I encourage you to read my ‘Footnote’ for the ‘keys of knowledge’ on how to know my Savior, and how to contact me so that I might introduce you to my best Friend. I serve an awesome God and I want you to know Him like I do.

PRAYER:
Dear God, You are so good! Thank You for Your love that You showed evidence of at Calvary, when You made the ultimate step of providing the means for us to know You personally. Lord, there are many that will read this devotional today who are taking very lightly the great sacrifice You made for us. There will also be some who read this as a total stranger, because they have yet to surrender their life to You and accept You as Lord and Savior. Please Do It Again – by melting hearts, convicting Your children of sin and loving them into a relationship with Yourself. Especially at this busy time of the year, there are many who are overwhelmed with all that they feel is necessary to bring happiness into their lives, and those of their families. Please Help us to celebrate the One who came into this world to be our Savior and Lord. A most treasured gift that could never be replicated by anything we buy from the stores. So please help us to give, and share the greatest, most meaningful gift imaginable, the gift of Jesus Christ. Thank You Jesus for accepting me into Your family and treating me as Your very own son. Bless all who reads this devotional today, for I ask all these things in the wonderful name of Jesus – Emanuel, AMEN!

The Power of the Word of God!

THE HOLY BIBLE (New Century Version – 2 Timothy 3:15-17): 15 Since you were a child you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing people what is wrong in their lives, for correcting faults, and for teaching how to live right. 17 Using the Scriptures, the person who serves God will be capable, having all that is needed to do every good work.

THOUGHTS: I am always amazed to see how God puts together a plan for us. In my Old Testament reading this morning I learned from Jeremiah how prophets will be destroyed because of declaring their own personal message to the people, as they would be deceiving the people while teaching them a lie. In the highlighted verses we see where God used Paul to tell Timothy, and us, that the only power we have in our teaching or preaching or witnessing, comes from the God-inspired Word (the Bible). For the Word of God has the power to show people what is wrong in their lives, show them corrective measures and teach them how to live right. In fact, just as the prophets in Jeremiah’s ministry was told – it is the Word of God that makes His messengers capable and powerful enough to share with those that come under their preaching, life-changing qualities that not only draw them to Jesus Christ, but gives direction for ongoing fruitful lives for the Master. So I believe our take from this is to look deep inside and to stay so close to the Word of God that our actions will reveal to whom we belong, and our Words might be mere reflections of what God has laid on our hearts to share with those that we come into contact with. I’m sure that much like you, I become personally concerned about my unsaved loved ones and friends, but I believe that way too often we try to help remedy that through our own personal worth, or ideas. This Scripture has taught me/reminded me that it is only God that can change lives or redirect people trapped in a life of sin, and while we all should know that God is very capable of changing lives on His own, I believe that we must always ask for direction from Him for what we should say or do to encourage the lost towards belief in Jesus Christ. Vs 15 reminds us that it is the Holy Scriptures that can fill us with this kind of wisdom. Are you personally in the Word seeking this kind of wisdom? If we are to share real TRUTH friend, we must be saturated in IT (the Word of God) ourselves. Are you concerned enough about your loved ones to personally do something about it? Get in the Word friend, and allow it to enrich you and fill you with the wisdom of God, so that you may share the gift of salvation with others. Vs 17 tells us that we will be endowed with everything we need to do this!

PRAYER: What a happy day, when Jesus came into my heart! Father, it is that kind of happiness that we so desire for our loved ones also. Thank You for Your precious Word, and the whole truth that it reveals to us every time we read it. Often our eyes are opened, as they were today, to things needed in our personal lives, not just in the lives of our lost family and friends. This is true from what you told us in 2 Chronicles 7:14 where you told us to take responsibility and humble ourselves, seek Your face and pray, then You would hear from heaven and bless our land. In today’s verses You are instructing us to saturate ourselves with Your Word, the power-source for our witnessing, teaching and preaching, then we could share from the overflow of that which we have been filled with. Lord, I pray that we can stop looking for someone to pawn off our blame to, and take full responsibility for our actions, weaknesses and shortcomings. Please give us strength, boldness, and the ultimate will to change self, so that You may have usable instruments to impact the lives of others so that You may change them also. Thank You for loving us enough to care about us, even when we fall short. We need You every hour of our lives dear Lord, for it’s You we live for and look forward to uniting with when this life is over! Praising You, and asking all this in Your most wonderful name dear Jesus, I remain Your humble and willing servant, AMEN!
